11 Best Parks in Vancouver | Condé Nast Traveler

"Located on the False Creek waterfront with views to downtown Vancouver and the North Shore Mountains, the 17.6-acre Charleson Park bridges the gap between an urban environment (you’re looking north at a forest of high-rise towers) and a calculatedly placid setting. The meandering paths next to the lagoon are a stress-reducing stroll. Take the upper pathway toward a grove and you’ll eventually come across a waterfall; a small treasure, but worth it. If you’re a dog person, there's also an expansive off-leash area where Fido can romp freely." - Guy Saddy

Google
my partner and I LOVE coming to this park to have little picnic dates!! very peaceful and great sea-wall views!! (my only wish is to see more of the mountains from here but unfortunately this city really loves tall buildings.)

Very nice park. Easy access from Seaside bike path or off Broadway bike path. Seems popular with dog owners and friends with off leash areas. There is a waterfall pond. Not large and spectacular nor is it visible from the dog areas but it is peaceful and calm (and really small). You can see it at the top which I guess is the southern end. The water at the top looks clean and clear I was tempted to drink. The trail to the top where the pond starts is pleasant and has many trees. The playground looks new. Like China Creek North the slide is integrated into the slope, which I think is a great design. Just a little bit up and to it's right is a nice big tree. This park I think is not like your usual neighborhood park. There didn't appear to be playing fields and such but it is in my mind quite a pleasant place to walk around.

Google
One of my favourite parks for dogs I've found so far. This park has a massive grassed off-leash area and also a man made waterfall/rock pool with both deep and shallow water, mud and all. Both areas are semi enclosed with a wood stacked fence. Our pup just absolutely loves this park! Just note that during some months of the year dogs are required on leash between 10am-5pm. Be sure to pack some towels, treats and toys!

Google
Still one of my favorite parks, but not as good as it used to be. The swimming pond for dogs was filled in with more dirt so the water level is much lower than before which means that if you have a medium size dog or larger they can not really swim, more just cool off in the waters. On wet days the field is extremely muddy and slippery. (Poor drainage) Make sure you have good boots with a good grip. At the top of the hill is a pond that has mostly clear city water and is a great place to rinse off your dog before leaving.

Google
Best dog park views all year around. Love this dog park. Sometimes too muddy - but it’s Vancouver. That’s to be expected during the rainy season. Love that there are clean fresh water pools for the dogs to swim in during the hot summers.

Nice walk around the sea and stunning view of all the tall buildings of Downtown. Nice hide away places to have bit of privacy and alone time. Few benches inside the woods and mostly jogging and chatting in the open area. So with shades and sun cream in Spring and Summer Evenings. Spiral ladder to reach the overhead Cambie bridge was a real surprise..

Google
An absolute gem of a park and a huge asset in the middle of the city throughout the seasons. Amazing views across the creek to Downtown, on and off leash dog parks, great playground, community gardens, even a waterfall. The huge pond has been allowed to dry out by the city so the turtles that lived there mostly died. The Parks Board does little to maintain the stunning trees, presumably under the excuse of climate change but unless such spaces are treasured and preserved there will be fewer and fewer places in the city with shade and shelter and this worsensthe problem. Really sad to see how many beautiful trees are allowed to die every year. Serioue shame on the Parks Board to squander such treasure.

It’s a peaceful park that got a dog unleashed area. Good place for a stroll and chat.

Yelp
Excellent dog park, and a nice part of the seawall in general! Both areas next to the big pond are part of the off leash area - both the fenced off area, AND the hills next to the residential buildings on the East side. You can find free parking by the residential area South of 7th Ave around Laurel St, and walk across the little park bridge which extends the park over the busy 6th Ave. Good variety of terrain for dogs to play - field, pond, waterfall, hills, woods, bushes... Friendly people and well-behaved dogs.

Yelp
My dog's favorite park. He loves coming here no matter rain or shine. His tails immediately starts wagging as we walk close to the entrance at 7th and Laurel and starts to pull on his leash so he can try to get there as soon as possible. As a dog owner, I love this park on a sunny day, but it is extremely muddy after rain, and even a few days after (be careful! The slope is extremely slippery and muddy!) . My dog doesn't care though, as long as there are dogs that he can play with he is happy. Puddles? Even better! His favourite spot in the park is the waterfall, he loves fetching his toy from the water and running around with his toy in his mouth and greeting every dog that comes to the park. Personally I wish the park was more fenced in (especially the duck pond area) however it is wonderful to have a nice off-leash dog area so close to us and it's a wonderful place to socialize the pups. It's usually the busiest in the afternoon between 2-5pm.

Yelp
Beautiful park, there are cycling, walking, jogging, paddle boarding, kayaking, or canoeing. Dogs are allow through the whole park and the trails. You can walk from science world to Granville island and that takes about 30mins to about an hour depending on how fast you walk. Nice flowers and two lanes one for walkers/runners and the other is for cyclists. A couple cute stores and ceramic studio there and nice views!

Yelp
BEAUTIFUL DOG PARK, just beware of mud. I have only gone on sunny dry days, but even a day or two after rainfall it can get very muddy. Under the right conditions this park is absolutely lovely. There is a small waterfall, a duckpond, its next to seawall, there are jellybean sculptures and wide open grassy spaces for dogs to run and play.

Yelp
Beautiful, wide-open doggie park. Both my dog and me had a great time at Charleson Park. From the doggie point of view, she had plenty of room to run and play with other friendly dogs. We went to the waterfall section that is off-leash, and she loved getting into the water. From a human point of view, the scenery from this park is absolutely gorgeous. Stunning Vancouver skyline across False Creek, there is a small lake and lots of beautiful plants. This is a walk for yourself as well. Tip: it can get muddy during winter/fall season, bring your rain-boots.

Yelp
Wicked view. Wicked people and dogs about. Dragon boats drumming by. Charleson rocks. There's something about walking by the ocean that calms the soul. Night or day, you can't not smile while walking here. In stark contrast with the Yaletown seawall, the land of dogs dressed in LV with matching prissy fake women, the people here are friendly and actually smile. People are dressed to run, not to show off. Off leash park is wide and spacious. Turbo approved.

Yelp
Probably the best dog Park in the city during summers. It's not fence din but it's large and there are lots of playmates. If the summer heat gets too hot there is a waterfall with a small pond for the dogs to wade in. The view is really nice too since either is along the seawall. The downside is it pretty much can't be used during winter as it gets super muddy

Yelp
Jelly beans!! And just two reviews so far... WHY?!?!?! This is art work but in a cool way!! Three huge Jelly bean are hanging out at then end of da road. But you will have to walk about 1800m starting at the Square at the Olympic village and then you will see the giant jelly bean... Located next to the unleash dog area... Why not 5 stars then? Cuz that... The unleash dog park has no gates, no nothing... Just a lil sign... So you can relax on da bench next too and suddenly... Have a furry friend or two or three running and barking around... I love pets so much... So I don't mind... But sometimes it can be a lil annoying if I am reading or trying to think... Naturally the sea wall can be packed with bicycles and a lots of peoples... So I prefer to show up after dinner time... It's also an healthy walk form d town to the jelly beans... ;) PS: As I mentioned I love animals... All of them... So what a delight... When I saw three weeks ago two beavers in da water and...and...and... A turtle hanging on a rock in the pound just before the jelly beans... RAD!!

Yelp
Cute little park along the water with interesting modern structures for kids to play in, a waterfront walkway, great off leash areas for dogs (enclosed, and away from kids) and a little island-like peninsula with paths that you can walk to to during low tide. Views to waterways, Aquabus stops, and organic urban community gardens. Delightful little spot with views to Yaletown and fairly abundant parking nearby.

Yelp
Great park for good views of downtown. It is only a short walk from granville island or from Olympic village. There is playground and tennis courts if you like that sort of thing. Peaceful pathways wind through lush plantings and around a waterfall and pond, opening to striking views of the downtown shoreline. Whether passing through on the seawall or staying awhile to enjoy the park, Charleson is sure to make your day a bit more relaxing. Note: The tennis courts are outside the park on the rooftop at 600 Moberly Road.

Yelp
Such a great park. It really doesn't get any better than this! I work in the area and I usually spend my sunshiny summer days out here at Charleson Park enjoying the views of our beautiful city, watching the birds and ducks in the pond, seeing the pooches have a great time running around and playing in the water, taking naps on the grass or sitting on one of the hidden benches and reading a book. We truly are blessed with such great parks along the ocean here in Vancouver and I am so lucky to be able to enjoy this one pretty much daily and am looking forward to the fall when I can see all the leaves change colours and still enjoy everything that this park has to offer. Beautiful.

Yelp
This is my and Polar and Lina's favourite Dog Park in Vancouver. Easily accessible by foot via and directly beside the Seawall and by car with 2 HR free parking near by. The dog park is a great wide open space, far away from the road with a fresh water pond and great ocean view. We took a blanket and lazed in the half shade provided by the surrounding trees and enjoyed the chill atmosphere for our dogs to let loose in. Loved that this park has a fresh water swimming spot for the dogs and the body of water separating this park from the Yaletown dog park crew isn't bad either ;)

Yelp
The views are lovely but if there is even a tiny bit of rain be prepared to be up to your ankles in muck. Poor placement for a dog park! Obviously created by people who don't have to walk their dogs!!

Yelp
This park is a beautiful place to get some great pictures when the sun is low in the sky. You're on the South side of False Creek and the sun reflects off the windows of the Yaletown buildings and they are mirrored in the water. There are also paths through the park and some very pretty flowers, which I have noticed change with the seasons. There's a pond where ducks and other water fowl hang out. The seawall goes along this park, but there's even more to it if you venture off the wall. One of the main attractions is the off-leash dog park that is in the centre of this park and viewable from the seawall. It is really well-used and a popular place to meet other dog owners. Those without a K9 should not shy away from this park, as it has a lot to offer a walker, jogger, gardener and photographer. Or someone just looking for a quiet place to relax.

Yelp
Great spot to cool off the pooch! Does anybody know where the water feeding the waterfall originates?

Yelp
Park that is located near False Creek close to the Olympic Village. It is a modest and small park that is well maintained that is geared more toward families than casuals, however, still a nice place to chill.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places in Vancouver and probably my favorite park. Great views of the water and downtown plus great people watching. Not a better place for a summer evening picnic or beer. Love that it's not as crowded as most Vancouver parks.

Yelp
The most beautiful urban dog park I have ever been to. Restorative and wide open.

Yelp
A very nice park to view!!! On a sunny day, great photo opportunities!

Yelp
A small but sweet park which sits beside False Creek in Vancouver. There is a seawall which connects to Granville Island and Science World. During the days when I worked near this park, I always would eat my lunch and head to this park for a walk. It was a great way to feel relaxed and ready for work after going to this park. This is one of the few parks in Vancouver where you can have an excellent view of the Downtown/Yaletown highrises.
