This place is absolutely worth the hype. Every single dish we ordered exceeded expectations. The smoked fish croquettes were divine, loved the crispy panko crumb. We both got the Charley Nobel burgers for mains. At $35 it’s an expensive burger, but you can definitely taste the quality. I ordered my patty medium rare. It was juicy and flavourful. The brioche bun was delicious and paired excellently with the generous portion of crispy bacon. It did come with a lame single piece of iceberg lettuce and two tomato slices- maybe just leave that off? For dessert we got the chocolate crackle bar and the apple tarte tatin. Hope these stay as permanent fixtures on the menu, they were divine. Would go back for the desserts alone

I would like to share some concerns about our recent dining experience at your restaurant. Firstly, we requested an extra plate to share our food, but we were given a plate that was used for serving oyster shells. This was not suitable for our needs. Secondly, when our steak and pork belly were served, we were not provided with the appropriate steak knives. I noticed that other tables had them, so I am unsure why we were not given the same. We would appreciate your attention to these matters, as they affected our overall dining experience. We hope to have a better experience next time.

Thoroughly enjoyed our New Year’s Eve dining experience at Charley Noble. We were visiting from overseas and worried about getting in however the staff were friendly and reassuring and able to get two of us in for a late dinner. We arrived a little earlier and enjoyed drinks near the bar area. It was a busy night but the staff were still friendly and attentive. The host pleasantly moved us to our table when it was ready. We shared entrees of pate and ceviche fish followed by mains of eye fillet, the signature lamb paired with sides. We shared the honey layered dessert which we added cream to, just to give it an extra lift. Very happy with a new year meals. The serving staff were very helpful with food and wine selections and it made our night very enjoyable. Thank you! Highly recommend.

The oysters were Devine, venison so tender and tasty, the chocolate sauce that goes with it just enhances the flavors. Finished off with incredible rocky road. Highly recommend.

My husband had wanted to have dinner here for ages and the stars never aligned. We were lucky enough to get a walk in yesterday at the Counter (Raw Bar) for our 5th wedding anniversary. Every staff member was so lovely and attentive. Our water glass was empty for only seconds before being refilled. The kitchen staff looked like they were having a good time and the whole atmosphere was lovely. We were lucky to get the last 3 oysters which were divine and if we are lucky enough to go back likely going to be my whole meal, they were that good. We got the Beef Tartare which I thought was exceptional, my husband wasn't a fan of (lucky me!), the steak my husband ordered was amazing he was thoroughly pleased with his choice, the carrots were ok but probably wouldn't order them again. My ceviche was lovely and light, wonderful colours and the crisp was a lovely addition. It was close to being on par with the best ceviche I've ever had in Rarotonga. Wine was lovely. Staff were great. Atmosphere was calm for such a busy place. Highly recommend

Been here several times and it never disappoints. This time was for a EOY team dinner 8pax. We were seated quickly but the restaurant was very busy so plan ahead. Staff looked after us and were very attentive to our needs, refreshing drinks, table water and generally making sure everyone was happy. I didn’t manage to get photos of the starters as they were gobbled up quickly due to being very tasty. Everyone enjoyed their mains, with the lamb and beef cheeks being table favourites. The fish was fresh and had beautiful flavour, with the batter being light and crispy. Can’t wait to go back again for another special treat.

Sat in the counter for Sunday dinner, had probably one of the best steak ever. Ordered medium steak and aioli fries. Food: Amazing steak, grilled to perfection with crispy charred outer layer and juicy layer of flavor on the inside. Ordered medium, came a bit too medium well for my preference but tastes perfect. Service: Attentive and cheerful staff. There was a mistake on the order but they rectified it quickly. Atmosphere: Classic feel of an upscale eatery, sat on the counter where the chair is not the most comfortable but still pleasant. Too bad their cocktail selection are a bit limited, a glass of old fashioned would be perfect with my steak.

Top notch. Beautiful food, service and atmosphere. Was lucky enough to sit at the chefs table and enjoyed watching the skilled team cook a d plate the divine dishes beautifully

Yelp
This was my family and I's last meal in Wellington and this restaurant was a great way to end our trip here. It is beautiful inside and the staff are all very friendly. It is great for a nice dinner to sit down and enjoy a meal. We ordered quite a few appetizers and entrees to share as this was our last night here. We started with some raw oysters, smoke fish croquette ($9.50 each), focaccia bread ($9) with artichoke dip ($12), seafood chowder ($30), and the beef tartare ($28). Our favorites were probably the oysters and the focaccia bread with the spread. The oysters were fresh and we enjoyed trying them all. The focaccia bread went great with the spread as the bread was warm and the spinach dip was a nice cool dip to match. The bread was also perfect to dip in the chowder. For the entrees, we ordered a side of green beans ($14), fettuccine ($27|$37), Lumina Lamb Backstrap ($19 per 100g), and the Japanese wagyu ($85 per 100g). Our favorite out of everything was the wagyu. The lamb was delicious but it's not comparison after you have a bite of the wagyu. The Wagyu was cooked perfectly. The meat was not too thick of a piece to cut. The green beans were a great side to go along with the meal. The almonds added a nice crunch to the green beans. Overall, we enjoyed our meal very much. We felt that this restaurant was a perfect way to end our stay in Wellington!

Yelp
Excellent oysters, steak and service. I had three raw oysters, their greenstone creek scotch filet and thoroughly enjoyed everything.

Yelp
What a busy place and for good reasons. The service, ambience and food were all stellar. We started off with warm sourdough bread and garlic butter, and an iceberg wedge salad with pickled onions and ranch dressing. For my entree I ordered agnolotti ravioli in a lemon butter sauce with fresh basil and toasted pine nuts which made me moan. So refreshing. My husband had the lamb back strap which he loved. Our favorite though was the French peas side dish in a creamy cheese sauce with bacon. It was amazing. We topped off our meal with peach sorbet. Our main server (can't remember her name) was attentive. Others helped refill our drinks, clear dishes, serve food, etc. The American manager was friendly.

Yelp
As someone from the States, this place had the best lamb and steak I've ever had! Service is okay, but the food is phenomenal! Everything tasted amazing, my taste buds are dying for more of this. My favorite was definitely the lamb. Cooked so well and tender. This restaurant has a very dim setting, giving an intimate ambience. I do think that the tables are spaced quite tightly to one another. The service of the place was okay. I would have preferred to be checked in more often, but overall satisfied. I highly recommend trying this place for the steak and lamb!

Yelp
This place packed up pretty quick after we arrived. The service was slow, but not the server's fault. The food was pricey, but tasty. Mostly steaks and fish and lamb. So if you're up for something heavy, this place will work.

Yelp
Indescribably delicious...everything. Try the pot pie and crackle bar for desert. Fish and chips are best you'll ever had.

Yelp
From the moment I walked in, the vibe was right. Pleasant hostess, waitress. Extremely attentive, knowledgeable of the menu. Being that I just traveled 26 hours, I wanted something healthy, lite and a cocktail. As a party of one, I sat at the chef's table (or bar). It is an open kitchen concept so I could see the food before ordering. The Red Snapper Ceviche looked like a seafood salad and did not disappoint. The bell pepper, cucumber, red onion, orange combination was fantastic and I love that it is served naked (no chips or 'scoops'). I asked the waitress her favorite item, which on a menu that features wagyu beef, I was surprised when she said the truffle fries. Wow was she right. The truffle aioli was amazing and being that I had been on a shoe string fry kick, I found that I loved the steak fries. The Turipi (vodka, basil strawberry drink) hit the spot for a summer refresher and a reminder that it is summer here (despite the predictable windy Wellington nature). I'll be back to try more of the menu but a great easy eat for a Monday evening!

Yelp
Perfectly mediocre food at exorbitant prices. Went here for my wife's birthday, and disappointing is an understatement. In summary: - Very ordinary, overcooked steaks/lamb at high prices, no better than most steaks you'd get at a pub and worse than a fair few - Bland undercooked roast potatoes - Sauces ranged from unpleasant to decent but not matched well with the food - Brusque, vaguely unpleasant wait staff. We mentioned the overcooked lamb (NOT to send it back) and the server got very defensive. - Run down premises, small, wobbly table - Horrid shared building toilets - Doesn't appear to have AC, which leads to open windows, which leads to flies buzzing around the entire meal - Restaurant was nearly empty when we went, but they seated the very few patrons right next to each other, I assume because it's easy. Ended up getting COVID from the experience Overall quite a disappointing experience, especially given our high expectations. We would have been far happier going to a local pub.

Yelp
Melt in your mouth steak I feel like I usually struggle to find a steakhouse that's actually worth the price but this one absolutely is. It does get crowded so show up early

Yelp
Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. We will be back tomorrow Eve. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We were in NZ visiting for the World Cup and we had an absolutely topnotch meal all around. Outstanding in every way, every detail. My husband had a hamburger that he said was the best burger of his life. Perfectly prepared beef patty, great condiments, and a specially made bun with initials of Charley Noble baked into the bun. Salad on the side was excellent. My uncle and I had fabulous NZ lamb with delish toppings. Daughter had an amazing steak. If you are a meat eater this is a perfect place. Great wines as well. Attentive friendly service. Altogether a memorable meal.

Yelp
Definitely a find for us on our stay at Wellington. I read the reviews on Yelp and the restaurant was near our hotel. Was a fabulous dinner! It is busy so best make reservations however we did not and waited 40 minutes for a table but with wait. You can get a limited menu in bar area too. The octopus was delicious and beautiful presentation. The steak my husband ordered was done perfectly. The wedge salad was amazing as is their bread. A great spot!!

Yelp
Had a little trouble finding the entrance, actually walked around the building and ended up right where we started. There is no sign outside to direct you - so note, you enter the building from Post Office Square. With that said, I would have walked around the building several times and still found it worth it. Yes, this place is that good. The food was superb from beginning to end, ambiance and the service was great. Nothing was lacking.

Yelp
Charley Noble is truly a great spot for lunch or dinner. Ambiance is contemporary yet casual and lively. Food is spot on: the seafood chowder (NZD20) was a hit, great portion of well cooked seafood, super fresh. Since the wine option allows you to order by half glass (and they have a great list) I paired the chowder with 2 different Sauvignon Blanc (where Craggy Range is my top choice) and Clos Henri is an oaky SB, as well as the Dru River Chardonnay. It is extremely fun to be able to try the different half glass of wine. The clans and muddles were cooked perfectly. Also tried the local grass fed steak cooked medium rare. I could have listened to my sever who recommended it to be rare, but the steak had a great texture and was very flavorful. Paired well with some Hawke's Bay Craggy Range Sophia red blend. Service was super attentive and the meal was really a solid A.

Yelp
Really good steakhouse located a stone's throw from the waterfront. We started in the bar with a glass of wine. The bar tender was very knowledgeable about the wines on the list and I enjoyed my Seresin Sauvignon Blanc. With my meat, I had the recommended Rippon Pinot Noir, which was excellent as well. We nibbled on the bruschetta as we waited, which was nice slices of cherry tomato drizzled with balsamic vinegar. Predictably, the meat was amazing. I had the lamb and BF had the eye filet. Both were perfectly cooked (medium rare, exactly as we ordered) and top notch! If I had to pick, I would give a nod to the beef; it was so flavorful! Only off note of the night was the desert. We had their "competition" desert - deer milk ice cream with honeycomb, figs, and a cigar of baklava. There was rosemary in the ice cream and fresh thyme leaves sprinkled all over. It was just too much going on, the ice cream was drastically overwhelmed by the rosemary and thyme.

Yelp
So outstandingly good, we went back the next night!! We were in town for less than a week as tourists. When in another country, we try to take in as many different restaurants and flavors as you can, not looking for repetition. Wellington as a whole had been underwhelming, until we found Charley Nobel. Never done this before; dinner was sooooooooo good, we went back the very next night, it was that good, and the 2 best meals we had in 33 days in all of New Zealand. Absolutely the bomb; service exceptional, great atmosphere, and absolute first-rate meals, both times. If I lived walking distance to this place, I'd have a standing reservation to eat here once a week, forever... Thanks Charley for some memorable eating!

Yelp
Bummed. Tried three times to get in to this well reviewed, very busy eatery ... succeeded the third time with Sunday night reservations. Did not live up to expectations Service was friendly ... yet seated 30 min after reservation time thru several "just 5 min more" promises from staff. Once seated service was prompt, until once we ordered were told lamb takes at least 20 min. That's why I came so had no choice. Offered complimentary bread to get us through our long wait ... would have preferred a comped drink we had at the bar ... oh well. Food was "ok". Lamb was good piece of meat but poorly prepped with lots of remaining silver skin. Meat pie was large, flavorful and savory. Fish and Chips in large portion but rather bland taste. Good bar selection. If I were in town longer I'd give it another chance after trying other options.

Yelp
This restaurant is more than a meal, it's an experience! The Limoncello Spritz was an amazing pre-dinner cocktail. The filets were cooked to perfection. The restaurant is charming. Most importantly, the servers, bartenders and hostess were friendly and all provided great service. Our dining experience here was perfect!

Yelp
Was looking for a steakhouse for our one night in Wellington. Beat the rush by arriving at 5:15 on a Friday evening and got seated right away. Within 20 minutes the restaurant was packed. Food was good quality. Eye Fillet and Scotch Fillet well prepared. Ordered the peas, foccacia, grilled salad, and truffle fries as well. The only dressing option for the salad is blue cheese. We asked if we could skip the blue cheese and just have some oil/vinegar on the side to use as the dressing. That worked out, however when we got the bill we got upcharged $2 for oil/vinegar. Bill also showed a charge ($0.50) for ketchup/tomato sauce even though we never requested ketchup. While these charges are nominal, when we're paying for an upscale dinner, I wouldn't expect these types of petty upcharges to be added in. Kids dessert took about 20 minutes to arrive. A decent meal, but unlikely to go back.

Yelp
Outstanding dining experience in Wellington New Zealand. One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. All of the employees were friendly, helpful, and obviously loved working here - they all worked together as a team. Every course was perfectly prepared and presented. We started with "Cliff Oysters" - I have never been a big fan of oysters, but these were the best I have ever eaten. I was then served a small rack of New Zealand lamb which was tender and juicy. CN provides several sauces to accompany the lamb and I tried them all - they were all good, but the homemade horseradish was outstanding. I also enjoyed my wife's mushroom risotto, steamed broccoli, and delicious New Zealand Pinot Noir that combined to make a great taste together. Great meal, great service, great atmosphere, and delicious food earns 5 stars in my opinion every time!

Vahideh S.

Yelp
I am so pleased with the food, service, prices and everything overall. Greatly recommended. Nice atmosphere and good vibes + great food. So glad randomly chose the restaurant by just glancing and seeing the staff working so harmoniously through the kitchen prior to the restaurant opening last night!
google avatar

Angelo Xiang Y.

Yelp
It is my first steak in New Zealand, and it was so tasty that I almost cried! The steak has clearly been aged properly, and every ounce tastes juicy and flavorful! For such quality, I don't mind the higher price because it's totally worth it!
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
Got the great casual upscale dining ambiance. Busy dining room, buzzing open kitchen, perky wait staff, background hip tunes grinding away. Culinary on point for all the dishes. Eclectic sardines in a can, light cornmeal white bait on a zucchini cake and we had beef cheeks so tender that you could use a straw to cut it. Chef has control and his groove on. Flexible wine list by the glass, 1/2 glass, 1/2 bottle or full. Best part was our server. She was indulgent with our inebriation. Solid NZ dining. No regrets only happy memories.
google avatar

Erika R.

Yelp
The food and service were superb. We came for lunch. We ordered the chargrilled broccoli, baked pumpkin and beef cheeks. Great Central location too.

Becky S.

Yelp
From what I hear, Charley Noble is one of the best restaurants in Wellington. My parents were visiting so we decided to give it a go. We had a pretty poor experience there, but I'm been met with surprise when I share this with locals. Although this is a pretty upscale restaurant, NZ is very casual, so it's great to just go in jeans and a nice top. Service was great. The waiter was friendly. Food: Ribeye on the Bone- was disappointing and chewy, unfortunately. Wild Awatoru Venison Rump- a friend got this and was very happy with it. Beautiful presentation. Beer Battered Fish and Chips- nothing too special about this Brussel Sprouts- Amazing. Would get these again. Seasoned just right. Dessert Trio Seasonal Fruit Sorbet- would go back just for this. If I remember correctly, their sorbet is homemade as are their marshmallows! Overall, average experience for a steep bill, but would go back and give it another go!

Yelp
Formerly of the now-shuttered White House, a new restaurant. Terrific room. Loft ceilings but still enough natural wood to make acoustics pleasant. Great food, good menu, great service. No reservations on Saturday nights, but tables can be booked on Sundays. Can't wait to go again
google avatar

Yelp
My new favourite restaurant in Wellington. Sensational food and service. Love the pork belly, creamed potato and shredded brussel sprouts sides.

Yelp
I went heart with a group of 7 for a dinner for a co worker. I made reservations and glad I did as it was very busy. The restaurant is a good size but not large so try reservations or go early. They have a nice bar area for waiting however it does have limited seating. The service and was excellent from the moment we showed up with the group. We were slightly early so had to wait a few minutes for the table, but staff got us all a round of drinks and before we knew it the table was ready. Very good selection on the menu and all found something they liked which all turned out to be steak. The meal came out and all steaks were cooked as ordered and the food was excellent. Highly recommend and I was happy with the beer selection! Good spot for any occasion!
google avatar

Peter L.

Yelp
Arrived on a Friday night with all the inlaws - we had not booked as we had found the place on yelp. They accommodated the seven of us reasonably quickly. Food was awesome - in particular the bluff oysters, mozzarella balls, bruschetta and surprisingly the chicken risotto - just divine - well worth the visit - top notch
google avatar

Jonah K.

Yelp
I was really excited to try this place due to the cool menu and reviews. We didn't have a booking so 2 of us tried to walk in. We were told a table was opening up in 5 minutes in the bar area. There seemed to be a lot of confusion, and about 45 minutes later we were seated at a normal table. The food itself was decent, but not as good as expected. They do have a good beer selection. The service at the table was a bit spotty, I had to ask for water twice, and I had to get up to find the server to get my check. Not ideal.

Yelp
One of our friends recommended us to Charley Noble - her comment was their cocktails are freaking amazing. if you want the feeling of a warm winter's night in your mouth then order their gingerbread cocktail. The Saucey One and I both ordered a Main each - she had the pork belly while I had the Smoked Fish Pie (which was that night's special). The pork belly was well cooked, well seasoned and the crackling was simply divine (I might add that I thought the serving size was a bit small...) The Saucey One enjoyed this very much, she would rate the sauce a decent 8 out of 10. My smoked fish pie was average - the sauce was amazing and so was the pastry top, however the smoked fish chunks were dry and not really melt-in-the-mouth. The texture was really stringy (if that makes any sense) and chewy. We both shared the lemon chiffon pie with chantily cream for dessert - I haven't had much lemon pies before, but this one is amazing! The curd had just the right tartiness and the sweetness of the cream really balanced it off!! The price was a bit steep for one slice of pie (it was approx $16). This place is also good if you like your fresh oysters, we had a choice between Bluff or Waikato :) however they do charge $5 a pop..

Steven T.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Sat on the bar overlooking the busy humming kitchen. Best pork-belly in a long while plus wonderful tasty sides. Peas, truffle fries, mushrooms and iceberg salad. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Tom T.

Yelp
The steak: fantastic. The recommended wines were top flight. The iceberg wedge? Crisp, fresh with a tasty bleu cheese dressing. New Zealand oysters were dynamite: briny and very tasty. Went with the Sauv Blanc perfectly. I sat at the raw bar and it's a lively scene. Jammed, but a very warm atmosphere. It's clear everyone was enjoying the food, the atmosphere and the company. Definitely a must go to when you're in Wellington!
google avatar

Cosmo W.

Yelp
Great restaurant with awesome food in a great building! Servers are all good, friendly and smiling. They ran out of oysters, but that tells me they were fresh. The steak was delish, the wine list fantastic. Great restaurant!

Yelp
Wow. All I can say is wow. Ok need to say more. This was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had anywhere in the world. The interior is super hip and casual, yet there is definitely a flair of sophistication. We came in early Monday evening but there was a wait for over 30 minutes so we were offered a seat at the kitchen. It was just like sitting at the bar but it was at the open air kitchen. Now the food...we had the grilled octopus in babaganoush and roasted eggplant, fire roasted cauliflower in almond and mint purée, pumpkin risotto, and the snapper with tabbouleh and aioli. Each one was a culinary masterpiece. Each item was innovative and complex with the end result achieving a perfect unity in taste. The service was ideal. Our waiter was great and as we ate, one of the chefs lead us through the culinary process of many of the dishes. Very cool experience to sit at the kitchen. It was like watching a show during your meal.
google avatar

May T.

Yelp
Fine addition to the Wellington restaurant scene with a packed bar during happy hour and beautiful open kitchen environment. Not to miss are the grilled octopus, chicken liver parfait and tinned sardines (sounds weird, but was very very good). Wash it all down with the unique and delightfully sinful La Canard L'Orange Manhattan. Duck fat, rye whiskey manhattan.

Dick A.

Yelp
The Beef cheek was one of the best meat dishes I have had the pleasure of eating. The chewiest part of the whole dish was the mushrooms. Haha. Would highly recommend for Carnivores.
google avatar

Jackie T.

Yelp
It was a cold wellington night and we entered Charley Noble. Environment was nice, warm and the staff was welcoming as we arrived before the opening time but they were very accommodating and sat us at a table. Ordered the oysters - fresh and great presentation. The eye fillet was divine! It was cooked to perfection - medium rare and just melted in my mouth. Lamb was full of flavour and seeping with its signature juices. Overall very satisfied with the food, environment and hospitality. A recommended restaurant!

Yelp
This is flat out my favorite restaurant in the city! It's crazy delicious and I've never ordered anything I didn't like! The pot pie is extravagant and all the pasta is crazy fresh! I can't leave the place without getting truffle fries and Mac n cheese. Their ravioli is to die for! 10/10 would recommend!
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
Went to Charley Noble a few days ago with a friend. Had ribeye, cheddar potatoes and peas followex by dessert platter. Pricey but great food, atmosphere and staff.
google avatar

Mary Ann P.

Yelp
Lovely atmosphere with a full bar! We've been here before and it's just as fabulous as the first time. We ordered the lamb shoulder, Risotto and Chicken Pot Pie (Special). The food was served hot and everything was delicious! For dessert, order the Tarrone with its crispy cookie like elements and the Lemon Chiffon Pie. The only suggestion I would have to say is come early on the weekends and don't be in a rush because sometimes you have three different servers by the time you are done. If you like watching the kitchen crew make meals then ask to be seated on the kitchen barstool. It's very fascinating! We will most certainly return.

Melanie A.

Yelp
Amazing food and worth the high price in my opinion. Go there on a date night and enjoy impeccable service and wine pairing with your meal. The fish was perfectly cooked and the dessert was amazing. I'll definitely go back. It's my favourite in Wellington so far.
google avatar

Christy C.

Yelp
Amazing food, and the service can't be beat. If you're lucky enough to get Julian, his recommendations can't be beat!

Jennie J.

Yelp
Open for lunch and dinner. I'd definitely recommend stopping by if you're in Wellington. Wonderful food and amazing service. The servers even wiped away the crumbs after the starter dishes. Try their hot chocolate- they make their own marshmallows! 10/10 great meal! (:

Nadya K.

Yelp
I can't emphasize enough how amazing this restaurant is! My husband and I are traveling from out of the country and we stumbled upon this place the first day we were here in Wellington. The food is fresh and some of the most beautiful I have ever seen in my life. The ambiance is just perfect and I wanted to eat here for every meal.

Randy N.

Yelp
We loved this restaurant - we went back twice. The ambiance is upscale and comfortable. The service was excellent. The bar is charming and very well staffed. We loved the seafood chowder for a late lunch. The best in New Zealand.
google avatar

Bob K.

Yelp
Wow! We shared gazpacho and fish & chips! The blend of flavors in the gazpacho, especially the crab, was amazing. Huge portion of lovely fish & chips and outstanding service... loved it!

Yelp
Fantastic food (the pork belly was amazing and the mash may be the best ever...), fantastic service, fantastic bar, great atmosphere (if a little noisy).

James B.

Yelp
If you need to pick one place to eat in Wellington look no further than Charley Noble - amazing service and awesome good at reasonable prices. I recommend coming 30min early and enjoying the bar while you wait for a table.
