Hidden Gem Alert: Charlie’s in Consecon
Last night, we took a drive out to Consecon and stumbled on a place I hadn’t even heard of, Charlie’s. I hadn’t been out that way in a while, so this spot was a total surprise. The best kind.
First off, the place is beautiful inside, clean, cozy, and welcoming. But we chose to sit on the deck, and honestly? That was the move. The sounds of the water and birds created this chill, peaceful atmosphere that felt like home.
Our server, Hannah, was a total gem. Great energy, friendly, and just on point with her service, the kind of vibe that makes a meal even better.
We started with the PizzaQuitos (yeah, say that five times fast). They were out-of-this-world good! Crispy on the outside with the perfect chewy on the inside, packed with flavor on the inside, and topped with hot honey that brought the whole thing together. Came with a side of ranch dip, but not your basic ranch. This was some next-level dip — I don’t even have words, just trust me.
For mains, both my husband and I went for steak. And let me tell you, this was the best steak I’ve had since The Tulip in Toronto. No exaggeration. I asked for salt and steak sauce out of habit, but thank god I took a bite before it arrived, I didn’t need a damn thing. Perfectly seasoned. Perfectly cooked. My husband cut his with a butter knife. That good.
He had the loaded hash browns with cheese, bacon, and sour cream, I stole a bite and immediately regretted subbing mine for fries… until I tasted the fries. They were actually awesome too. But that loaded hash? That’s the one. Heaven in your mouth.
We skipped dessert, but not because we weren’t tempted , the portion size was just right. I left full, satisfied, and didn’t feel the need to chase it with something sweet. That’s how you know the meal hit all the right notes.
Before we left, I had a chat with the owner, Ashley, and she’s an absolute sweetheart. You can tell this place is built with love. And jist happens to be located in my favorite town in the world. If Consecon has moved to town status from Village, but either way, even the guests sitting next to you will strike up a conversation, making your dining feel all that more "at home"
Bottom line: Don’t sleep on Charlie’s. Make the drive. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your return.
