Google
This place is awesome to have fun, their drag show was great, they do have some dance group presentations and open dance floor after all that. Food is good and price is very reasonable.

Google
I did not have a social life until I started going here. Now I have a thriving friend group because of it. Line Dancing on Thursday and Saturday. Dancing in my underwear on Monday. Nice club dancing atmosphere later on in the night. Cool events. The drinks are reasonably priced. The best tacos in town.

Google
I'm a straight man from out of town but some of my girls took me here. Absolutely amazing the staff was great and friendly and on point! They are so busy but still polite and professional everyone is so nice and it's just an overall great time I have zero complaints. And to top it off the food has to be the best burrito I have had since I been out here! Amazing amazing thank you so much for the great experience

Patrick E

Google
Doesn't even have a bike rack. So I pull up and am waiting politely with my bike because it's busy. Before I even get a chance the bouncer is kicking me out! Phoenix is already inhospitable to bikes so what a disappointment. Will not be returning and yes it is your loss. You can see in the pic how busy it was. I believe Fernando was the bouncer. Way to go above and beyond alienating your customers!

Google
Been going to this bar for well over 10 years now. Friendly staff, drinks are well priced, and the taco truck is good too! What keeps me coming back however is the line dancing! Every Thursday and Saturday night, Charlie's Phoenix does line dancing lessons and then the dancing goes on until 9. They also do a lot of partner dancing too. Everyone is so welcoming. Made some really great friends here. Would give it more stars if I could!

Google
Line dancing has quickly become one of the highlights of my week. The atmosphere is always welcoming, whether you’re a total beginner or more experienced. The instructors are fantastic—super patient, upbeat, and great at breaking down the steps so everyone can follow along. It’s not only a fun workout, but also a great way to meet new people and enjoy some good music. Highly recommend to anyone looking to try something new, get moving, and have a blast doing it!

Google
Best carne asada in all of phoenix. Highly recommend! 😁 Meat is always fresh and juicy, full of flavor! I've tried the large quesadilla, tacos, nachos, and the burritos....they never disappoint 😋

Google

Yelp
Food is top notch and authentic. Everything is made fresh for you and also open late. Service is superb, but if you're and there and you Don't meet Jesse then you weren't there. He works so hard I thought he was the owner. Being from the east this spot gives me beach vibes with no beach. All walks of life are welcome... just I told you so.

Yelp
This place kicked me and my friend in a wheelchair out due to being "too drunk" when we'd only been there for an hour with 2 drinks each on pride weekend. I could easily point to 10-20 others getting severely more intoxicated than us. They clearly just needed some extra leg room around the bar. This was my first ever experience here at Charlie's and I will NEVER be coming back again after dealing with such an ableist and inconsiderate environment.

Yelp
5 stars for the staff and obviously brilliant entertainment director and management. However, with celebrating your 40th anniversary next week, you would've thought that you'd renovate a little bit before then so that's kind of disappointing. The barstools are very uncomfortable and you need to put up a nice stage for your drag queens with the runway, it's easy to fold it away and put it away and it will be amazing. You've got everything down Pat with the excellent service and entertainment. It's a great space just really needs a facelift way overdue! I do however love love love that they charge women to go to the bar because I miss going to gay bars and it being a fun cruising place instead of having to cruise online with the eye contact and everything. It's really nice and then all the gay bars nowadays it's just filled with like women staring at all the gay guys and it's kind of annoying so I love that. We actually have a spot for us again And that they charge the girls to send a message. I love love love that I wish they did it everywhere in California especially where I came from. Sorry don't hate me.

Yelp
Fun! Fun! Fun! The drinks are good, the drag shows brings joy and the cowboys make sure you are taken care of! Check out the open patio if you need a change of scenery. It doesn't disappoint!

Yelp
This has to be the most lively spot I visited while I was in Phoenix. During my two visits in Arizona, I saw a couple of drag performances and more people dancing in this venue compared to others. I also enjoy that they sell food here for all the drunk people who might need some carbs. During my 2nd time here, there was a tall bartender who was really rude to me. I am unsure why, but it just seemed odd to me. I liked the music here. There were also some gogo dancers, but I can tell that half of the gogo's were gay baiters. I'd prefer to give my tips and money to persons who are actually queer that are working in a queer establishment. Either way, I enjoyed my time here.
google avatar

Yelp
Love love love this spot. Taco truck has the best chicken quesadillas (xtra crispy) thursdays nights has buy one get one drink free, best music etc. I can't rave enough. Service is superb.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cute and fun spot! I loved all the cowboy hats the workers had! Such good dance music! And the outside area is attached to a Mexican place so u can order food from the bar area! Really good and cheap drinks and large variety! There were workers walking around with trays of $1 Jell-O shots too! Full of beautiful and friendly people!

Yelp
The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness. - Dalai Lama As we try to move through our work week, layover life, and what we've all been calling "the new normal," Learning to cope with our everyday stress and situations can go a long way. What I ended up doing this past Wednesday night, me and my work colleagues took steps to unwind. Alcohol in moderation is always key! $5 beer specials on tap! Spectrum Medical was also on site offering free testing, prevention kits and free swag! My eye was on a new water bottle! No cover charge on weekdays, there's always a cover on weekends. But who cares, it's Charlie's! You don't have to dress in Cowboy Western Attire because it's super casual. Less is more! And you never know who will be performing, so bring your dollar bills, enjoy, and be happy!

Yelp
Recently moved from LA to AZ wanted to check out a gay bar so decided to visit Charlie's unfortunately this was not it to the outdated music and to the treating females differently apparently if u are a female they charge 10$ well men get in for free which is wild to me because u are a lgbtq community bar make it make sense and the service at the bar was horrible u don't get no service or noticed unless u are male definitely won't be back. But gotta say it's a big bar and the concept is cool with the whole cowboy theme but they gotta do better for being a lgbtq bar .

Yelp
The food, service and ambiance was TOP TIER @ Charlie's! I went for my birthday in July!!!! Y'all this place was everything lol the bartenders were the bomb, the music gave me nonstop vibes and the people (patrons and employees) were just a vibe! This is the only photo I took from that night... one thing I can say is: My super queer self and all my gay and straight friends had an absolute blast at Charlie's!! Thanks y'all ! (I ate a steak enchilada- 5 stars for sure!)
google avatar

Elena H.

Yelp
This place is great!!! We felt so comfortable and welcomed! They do not judge! They make sure you have a great time while you're here! I will always come back to Charlie's!

Yelp
This bar is so fun. Me and my friends love to dance. We came here for the first time and had a freaking blast. The energy was high. Everyone was dancing and just enjoying themselves having a good time. The crowd was friendly. Everyone was one on the same page just there to dance and have fun. Phoenix doesn't have an amazing club scene so to find this place was a score. I'll be back for sure.
google avatar

Angelina T.

Yelp
Super fun and gay friendly! I'm a woman so I had to pay $10 to get in but men are free. Things didn't get fun until 12am really, but the did have drag shows before then. I would go again :)
google avatar

Jonny S.

Yelp
It's the main spot in town and it's pretty awesome I didn't see the dance floor being used for much dancing when I visited - I mainly saw drag shows there The outdoor area is awesome Bartenders are friendly and drinks are great

Rylee E.

Yelp
Wow what a fun bar!! I always enjoy going out there with friends! From drag shows to karaoke it's always the spot to be! This last time I went in particular the service was outstanding! Our bartender Ryan was hilarious and made the best drinks! A tip didn't seem to be enough!! I will definitely be coming to see him everytime!

Yelp
I've been going to Charlies for awhile now and I love it, but my last two experiences there got me a little upset. We were there a few weeks ago and a friend of ours ended up tripping and stumbling. He was a little drunk yes, but bro is also just clumsy. Well one of the staff saw this and immediatelly kicked our whole group of 8 people out. This was embarassing since we recommended this place for it's good and welcoming vibes. It was heartbreaking but we understood and left. Now last night we go right. And mind you it's 100 degrees out. We give the dudes our ID's and they clear us to go in. One of the girls grabbed a water from a literal bucket of waters at the entrace, because again, ITS 100 DEGREES OUT, and she goes inside. The girls pay the entry fee and then the staff member asks where we got the water. The girl is honest and says she just grabbed it from the bucket and the staff member then refuses to let her in. Just would not budge because she grabbed a water. We even tried to give it back and it wasnt even opened and the guy just kept saying "it's a firm no". We talked with the ID guy and he was like wtf that's stupid but there was nothing he could do about it. So they basically took our money and then wouldnt let us in. Again I love Charlies, I'm a big advocate of treating the staff there kindly and with respect, but these last 2 experiences were extremely disheartening. It's really frustrating paying for ubers and all that just to get kicked out. Hope you guys can do better in the future. Edit: I've read some of the other reviews now, seems like a major employee issue going on. I understand the need to be safe and that's stressful, but it seems like everytime there's a situation they just resort to just kicking people out instead of just telling people to calm down or whatever. Most people are understanding if you just talk to them. You're just gonna keep getting frustrated customers at this rate. Please stop escalating issues. Take some deescalation classes or something.

Yelp
This establishment has NO sense of being neighborly! On the weekends the owners and management allow this overly crowded bar to blast their PA system and exceptionally loud music to the point that it is just loud, obnoxious, electronic noise four city blocks away. They pump up their crowds to the point that you hear high pitched screaming from them at the same distance. I do not have a problem with people having a great time at a night club but that does not give you the right to disrupt the tranquillity of the four surrounding neighborhoods. Wonder if the cretans who own and run it will begin to respect their neighbors, the women, children, and men who are trying to live comfortably in their own homes and even try to get their children to sleep in a decent hour without having to put up with all that noise or is it going to take getting petitioned in the four neighborhoods to get the City of Phoenix to shut down one of the few nightclubs that caters to the particular group of people that go there. Heads Up Charlie's get your act together or prepare to close! ~Doc~

Yelp
Apparently there's a $10 charge for being a woman on Friday nights. Curious if that applies to trans women and drag queens or if you just make assumptions at the door. Hosts at the door could be a little more welcoming. Not a great experience for my first Phoenix gay bar experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Getting there: Located on camelback rd closer to 7th. They have a big parking lot, but it fills up fast. Experience: I was in town visiting a friend and his friends wanted to come here. This is one of the few gay bars that requires ladies to pay a cover. The cover is small, I think like $7. The vibes here were fun. The music was good. The inside is really dark whether its daytime or night. The outdoor patio in the back is pretty big and spacious, but can get crowded and hot outside. The drinks were relatively cheap.

Yelp
Wow! This place knows how to throw a party. The entire staff is professional and fun to be around. I absolutely LOVE the food trucks which are a real treat after a night of partying. I was super impressed with how much care they put into decorating and prepping for events. Performances are TOP notch and exciting. Bartenders are polite and put effort into their drinks which means a lot. Completely blown away by the hospitality and cleanliness, how do they do it?! On the superficial side; this place is such a beautiful atmosphere. I love a glammed up dance floor and they do a great job at bedazzling whatever possible! Can't wait to be back
google avatar

Alice H.

Yelp
Mixed drinks tasted cheap, and gross. Place was fairly clean. Service was blah. Got some dirty looks when trying to talk to the bartenders. Won't be back.
google avatar

Michealynn B.

Yelp
BORING !! Wasted 10$ a person admission. Not worth it. Used to be fly. Not no more. Couldnt get a refund.
google avatar

Kiara D.

Yelp
I would give this place 5 stars but the music is not up to par...the crowd is never dancing and I feel like the ambiance could improve and if the DJ listened to to the client's request.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Although not my first time at Charlie's, i went for my first Phoenix Pride and was very pleasantly surprised! TONS of people, good music & live performances.
google avatar

Yelp
It was an excellent experience would love to come back and bring my sisters or something I wanted to try the tacos but my wife at the time wasn't feeling well so we left .

Yelp
I went here for the drag show and I wasn't disappointed! This club is huge and has two areas to party in. There's bartenders scattered throughout the place for convenience to get a drink. The bar tenders were super friendly and when they ran out of cider at the station I went to, they were able to make some great alternative recommendations! They weren't super expensive either which is a plus. The club was super chill and relaxing. They have a huge parking lot which isn't big enough unfortunately so the parking spills into the other businesses next door but I will say they have a night attendant out in the parking lot that walks the area to make sure things are good and taken care of! For men there's no cover and for women there's a $7 cover fee. Music was great and the DJs really knew how to keep the crowd going. My only complaint is the small and limited amount of bathrooms for women. Three stalls for a super busy night made for long lines! However I wouldn't let that stop me from coming back here to have fun and party!
google avatar

Amber C.

Yelp
Zero stars if I could honestly. I tried going here with my partner on a fun night out but the cover charge was insane. $10 dollars per head.... For women.... I was with a Group of males and females and the men weren't being charged the high cost as women just doesn't sit right with me. Really unappealing and I would much rather go to another local gay/queer bar with more inclusive vibes than this.
google avatar

Aspen J.

Yelp
Suuuch a vibe I love it here. Music is great, everyone is dancing, doesnt take forever to get a drink
google avatar

Yelp
Both bingo hostesses made my 1st ever lgbtq bingo night so much fun! Piper had it goin on & she was on top, big time!! ;) I loooooved their jazzed up bingo twist! Super creative & fun!! U gotta go here & experience it for yourself! Just show up on a bingo night, grab some bingo cards & pens at the stage area, and play on playa!! The music was bangin as well! And, they had a 2 for 1 special on drinks this Tuesday. I played with like 10 bingo cards each round & they even gave everyone extra rounds with the same bingo cards & I still couldn't come up with a single win! I guess bingo's just not my thing...dang...I still had a great time; thanks to the awesome hostesses & Dj! Keep rockin' it y'all!!
google avatar

M Breann M.

Yelp
Three stars because our bartenders where extremely nice - however the crowed wasn't so friendly. We had an old man tell us we couldn't kiss because we are girls and it was a gay men bar. Nobody said anything... not the friendliest place for lesbians. Coming from LA, we are ALL on the same team.
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
Gay and first night in town everyone said head to Charlie's I did and didn't regret it, met a lot of really cool people, the bartenders were really nice too and the tacos were amazing! Drag show was fun!!! Check it out!!

Jason C.

Yelp
This place is honestly wack. From the cowboy hats to the treating females differently and charging them entry. To some of the staff being on a power trip and acting like they are of real authority. Dude in the picture got mad for whatever reason cuz someone was enjoying themselves on the go go box and i said he looked good and was better than the hired dancers. And he got mad/ intimidated and decided to have me kicked out the bar. Whole time he couldn't tell me what i did wrong, neither could the 3 other people he needed to get to interact with me cuz he was scary af. Mind you i was peaceful, causing no problems, and have video to prove that. Left peacefully after having to tell him to take his hands off me. I doubt anything will come of this review or feedback but it'll deem itself relevant at some point in time I'm sure, especially if this is tue norm at this place.
google avatar

Courtney R.

Yelp
So this used to be one of my favorite all inclusive(race, gender) places. I always had to pay the female admission fee which was ok. But lately it's been less inclusive for African Americans in the lgbt community. They typically play lots of Latino influence music or pop. Which is ok but it's different than how they used to be. They used to do a really great job of playing music and catering to the vast ethnicities that reside in Phoenix. I've been coming to Charlie's since 2011 and never had a problem paying the female entrance fee, but it seems as of lately they are catering to a specific audience which doesn't include people who look like me or are of my gender. Which is so sad . I used to love it here so much
google avatar

Jared F.

Yelp
bartenders do not car how often or whonyiu are. terrible servoce. they will disregard you unless you pay a hefty fee. gay or not they have a "look fee" if yoy dont meet their look good luci getting service. so bad
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Always have a blast here and feel safe. Drinks are strong and worth it ! Don't forget to hit up the taco truck in the back !
google avatar

Bren V.

Yelp
This bar is operating right now, drinks, food, drag shows, social distancing, mask requirements, all servers and bartenders are wearing masks. During our first time in Phoenix, we got to enjoy this bar on a Thursday night. We were kindly greeted by Eddie. There was a drag show, $1 tacos, and 2-4-1 drinks. The inside tables were full because of the drag show, so we sat outside with Ed. He took great care of us, and was a really enjoyable guy. Came back the next night and although Eddie was serving, he came over and greeted us. The best part of any bar is the people, and it seems this place has the right people working for them.

Sophia B.

Yelp
Ernesto and Gabriel are my absolute kings!! I never had an empty drink whether I was at main bar or on the patio. They are seriously the best company and made my night. I drink exclusively with them
google avatar

Alfred W.

Yelp
I am being generous with giving the bar 3 stars. The reasons I am giving this bar 3 stars instead of 1 star is the drag queens. The dragqueens are amazing! They are friendly, warm, approachable and interact with all customers. The second reason is I love the Taco truck! The bar staff has no interest in serving anyone that is not skinny, muscular and 20 something. Last time I was there, my entire group had a hard time getting drinks. The bar tenders would ask people who just walked up behind us what they wanted before Even asking what we wanted. The lines to get a drink is always long and if you are a 30 something bear, God only knows when you will get a drink. I hate writing this review because Charlie's use to be my favorite bar! Charlie's is the first gay bar I went to. Charlie's holds a lot of special memories for me! I also miss the country music. But understand that it is changing with the times. Maybe this review will help get 30 something better service. Maybe a manager will read this and watch who is getting service and who is not.

Stella S.

Yelp
1 star for being fun to dance but other than that horrible! the doorman charged me to get in jus because he THOUGHT i was a woman. not only is the assumption frustrating, but we'r going to ASSUME gender and charge EXORBITANT FEES based off that? !
google avatar

Rolando V.

Yelp
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Went there around 9 on a Friday.. Check in guy was friendly enough, found the $7 cover kind of dumb. Not sure what it bought other than entrance into a very bare bones place with piped in music. $7 for a small jack and diet also seemed a bit much. Not a very classy place, although I'm sure most people know what to expect. Bunch of almost naked skinny guys dancing in one room with lecherous onlookers stuffing dollar bills down their speedos isn't really my thing, but to each their own! Club itself is pretty seedy and junky looking. Trash cans in bathrooms didn't even have liners and were filthy.
google avatar

Cory P.

Yelp
Charlie's is the place everyone says no to but finds themselves there. It is hit or miss but I give four stars because it's a good venue. It's on the light rail so it makes it convenient not to drive The drinks are poured reasonably and priced reasonably. Lots of daily drink specials it seems. The Mexican restaurant used to be the best but they've ruined it and made it the price if a normal restaurant. Might as well go to a sit down mexican restaurant and get chips and salsa and a better place to sit to eat. Maybe convenient for late night but you pay for it
google avatar

Darren P.

Yelp
This is a great gay bar one of the best in Phoenix if you ask me. My friends and I took a mini vacation to Phoenix from Los Angeles and we checked out all the gay bars that we can find in Phoenix and in Tempe. This by far was the most fun because they had a dance floor inside and a huge patio and a very diverse crowd. The best part is that it was a reverse entry system where in men get in free and women have to pay which is great it makes a lot of sense for a gay bar. This way everyone can enjoy the space for gay men but not overwhelmed. The bartenders are really nice the drinks are strong and they're not that expensive. If you get hungry there's a taco truck style restaurant on the Patio.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Time to change the bar's name to Charlene's. Admit it, this is a women's bar. I haven't been here in 25 years. In the 90's it was a blast....a man's bar where you could meet a hot bearded man. I stopped in last night and it was about 75% women. I have nothing against women. The place wreaked of perfume. Pretty sad...I won't be back...even in 25 years.

Michael C.

Yelp
Charlies is one of the best bars "ever". Straight or gay, the crowd is interesting, fun, and freindly. As are the employeees! Charies is one of the very "few" places, I've been to where I feel like I've gone there a very long while with a great reputation! Thank you Charlies! Your employees are nothing short of "exceptional".
google avatar

Grant C.

Yelp
Visiting from out of town and was staying across the street. This place was bumping on a Friday night. I need to come back when there isn't a pandemic. I was not comfortable being inside despite being fully vaccinated due to the new CDC masking guidance. I had my mask on, but my husband and I were the only masked people there and someone made a snide comment to us too. They did have a big outdoor patio, so we just hung out there. It was also pretty busy outside, but not too packed. There were drag queens, go go dancers, and a fun time. The drinks are strong and simple. You won't get fancy cocktails here. Most people were drinking beer out of mini pitchers. The music was good and it had a fun atmosphere. Would definitely come back!

amy f.

Yelp
Was excited to check out this place when visiting from out of town. Really disappointed to see they only charge women at the door. Save yourself some time and put a big sign up, "Lesbians not welcome." It's too bad because the atmosphere was decent. Misogyny isn't a good look in 2023 boys.
google avatar

James G.

Yelp
It never ceases to amaze me how bad the customer service is at Charlie's. Some of the bartenders are amazing while others don't care about good service. It wasn't that busy on Sunday night and a fellow customer and I stood at the bar for a long time while the two bartenders were having a good old conversation ignoring paying customers. REALLY!!! Just because they are supposedly a gay bar doesn't mean the customers should be ignored or treated badly. Don't we get enough of that from the straight community.

Jorge m.

Yelp
Customer service here is 50/50. Depending on who's working it's either great or it's horrendous. It seems as if the little children they hire here are more interested in socializing and taking selfies than offering actual service. BTW don't call them out on it out they will publicly humiliate you and accuse you of being a bad tipper (which I'm not). I know Charlie's doesn't care if I never come back because we are indispensable so I guess it won't matter if I never step foot in here again. However, I'm writing this as a forewarning to future customers. Also they have a very misogynistic policy of only charging women to come in here and giving them a very hard time about bringing their purse in. Also if you you see a pasty white boy with a dog collar on who thinks he's all that, avoid him at all costs. He's the worst. If there ever was a place that I would recommend to people not to go to or spend their money at, Charlie's Phoenix would be it.
