Charlie's Place

Service was good, Maddie was friendly and nice. Lost it a little bit at the end as it became more busy. Took a while to get the check. Food pros: homemade cheese curds were great and french fries were ok Food cons: steak sandwich was more bread than anything. Lacked flavor over all and barely any steak, heavy on the onions. Horseradish sauce didn't taste like it at all, also didn't have much flavor. The wife's burger was way under cooked, middle was almost raw. Atmosphere: smaller venue but descent amount of seating. One unisex bathroom. I didn't go in but wife stated crooked seat and piss everywhere. Not likely we ever go back unless it's just for a drink.

Cheese curds were great! Only if you eat them hot. Steak sandwich was bland. Mainly bread with small amount of frozen steak'ums. Horseradish sauce was bland. Fries are good. The pub burger was awful, half of it was not cooked thoroughly. No flavor at all, even the "siracha sauce" was bland. Afraid of seasoning Was never asked how are food was in order to let them know. Will not return to eat there. The bathroom was also disgusting.

We had cheese curds and boneless wings for appetizers. They were both yummy. But, my crispy chicken sandwich was very dry and too big to eat. The atmosphere was fun but a little noisy, however the service was first rate.

We love this bar! Today we went for their first time serving breakfast. I had pancakes, fruit and bacon. Their bacon is top notch! I love that they have fruit available. We also tried the homemade biscuits and gravy. It’s different than ordinary biscuits and gravy but we thought it was amazing! The gravy has a unique taste to it but we both agreed we loved it. The biscuits weren’t regular biscuits- they seemed to be made from Scratch and had a cornbread kinda taste/texture. Again, very good just know it’s not your average biscuits and gravy. Love love love this place!

Greeted when we walked in. Great remodel of this location. Very clean. Menu is simple but diverse. Our service was quick and friendly. Food was very good. We will continue to visit this great local restaurant. If you haven’t been it is a “must try”.

We recently stopped in to the re-opened Charlie's - food and service were great! Pub cheese chips were stale but I'm just assuming it was due to being prepared ahead of time for the St P crowds. Only feedback - would have loved a vegetarian soup (all had animal stock). We will be back!

Charlie's in Belleville has quickly become my new go-to spot! The recent remodel is stunning, clean, and welcoming with just the right mix of charm and comfort. You can tell they put a lot of thought and care into every detail. The food? Fantastic. Every dish we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and plated to perfection. The drinks were equally impressive—strong, creative, and served up fast. Whether you're in the mood for a casual bite or a night out, they've got you covered. What really sets Charlie’s apart is the staff. Super friendly, attentive, and genuinely seem to love what they do. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like regulars. If you haven’t checked out the new Charlie’s yet, do yourself a favor and go. Belleville needed a place like this—can’t wait to come back!

The cheese curds were incredible! Just as good the next day! The service was amazing and the atmosphere was so friendly and inviting! I will definitely go there again when I am in town!

Husband, myself, and one of the kids joined me for dinner here. I was excited to try this place out since it reopened. ( I never had the chance to try when it was originally open) They were busy! Which I did expect as downtown belleville had a few things going on. They were so busy that sadly they were out of meatloaf and limited on some hoagie type Sandwich. I ordered the pub burger with the garlic mashed potatoes. The burger itself wasn't bad a little too salty than I'm use to. I swore I asked the waitress for the garnishes to be put on the side but they had it all on the burger. ( no big deal) the garlic mashed potatoes was a staple according to a guest that was talking to us as they left. They were good. Mine came out a little on the almost past the Luke warm stage ( I was a little bummed on that). Our oldest ordered the bone in wings buffalo flavor as a meal ( it's an appetizer) she said those were good. We also shared their French onion dip with chips. Husband had the same pub burger but he got his with steak fries. He wast thrilled that he couldn't order the burger in rare form. He too thought the burger itself was a little on the saltier aside. The prices seemed a little steep on some of the menu. ( expected on steaks and fish) I had to give them a bit of grace with all the chaos going on. Our server was kind and attentive. They didn't have much options for the festive drinks. I ordered their thin mint martini. I'd love to give them another shot in the future when it's less chaotic and they have food we want available. I will say th bar itself is cute. Reminds me of cheers. They had their front area setup with fire pits/heat lamps and tables to enjoy some hot chocolate that was only $3 for reg but if you wanted to "boozie" it up it would depend on the alcohol. They had cookies out from The cookie stroll that they offered for free. Then had a nice set up for those interested in making s'mores! Charlie's is located within historic downtown Belleville on the corner of Abend. There is only street side parking available. Keep in mind they do have breakfast or brunch too on weekends.

This place is a hidden gem! My wife and I went to Belleville last weekend for the Christmas Market and decided to grab a late Lunch. After looking through Yelp we decided on Charlie's Place and I am glad we did. Small corner pub that has food that is delicious. We walked in and not many people were there at the time, it was that weird off time on a Sunday between lunch and dinner so there were a few regulars and staff hanging out and maybe one or two other tables of people finishing lunch. Went we're hesitate for a minute but grabbed a table, the server was quick and helpful as soon as we were seated. She offered recommendations and took our drink orders. I grabbed a cider on tap and my wife grabbed a Kona Big Wave after she was told they didn't have the yuengling she ordered originally. We ordered the Poutine, because I always have to try it of its on a menu. We added the pub roast to it and that was a bonus call. Try it, seriously you like it. My wife had the Trash Chicken sandwich. The sandwich was HUGE! She had to cut it down to quarters to eat it and still only ate half. I tried the pub burger with onion rings on the side. AMAZING. I also could only get through half. I am assuming between the portion sizes and the fact that we hosed the poutine with pub roast beforehand in the reason we had the leftovers. Extremely impressed with this spot, from the outside you'd never guess the food is this damn good. I can't wait to drop back into this spot to try some of the entrees that are served after 4pm I think it was.

First time to Charlie's the other week... Wow what a wonderful bar serving insanely delicious (elevated) bar food! The chicken sandwich was large enough to share and the perfect balance of savory and spicy. I think their tomato soup might actually be one of the best I've ever had. Beer was served in a frosty ice cold mug and onion rings were fried to perfection. 10/10... we will be back!

Old Tyme feel to this tavern/ bar in the old town section of Belleville. Menu items are pub grub with sandwiches, salads, simple sides . Service was a bit slow for some in our group. No complaints about the food. Casual and nice place for lunch.

This place is somewhere you can relax with great pub combined with comfort food. I ate the fish and chips, they use Haddock which is mild. The flavor is found in the breading. The French fries are crispy and seasoned, delicious. The coleslaw is creamy with a pleasant taste. I finished with their key-lime pie, it has a thick graham cracker crust. I definitely recommend this desert. The portions are generous. The environment is welcoming and clean with plenty of table and bar seating. There is a side room with slot machines. Bathroom is a clean one seater. You can play darts here and they have various happenings, tonight is trivia night. Lots of beers to pick from to include local beers. Looks like it's a full service bar, I am not much of a drinker so can't say much about the alcohol. The service is friendly and welcoming.

My friend the Archbishop suggested we eat here for lunch yesterday and it was fantastic!! I had the meatloaf sandwich and it was so tender and savory on a brioche bun. The French fries were crispy but also soft on the inside...perfection! My friend had the grilled chicken sandwich which he said was delicious as well. My kids both had their pub burger... so good! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was as you would expect from a neighborhood pub. The exposed brick inside this historic building added to the charm. We WILL be back!

This is a gem! It has nailed the neighborhood bar. From the food to the atmosphere, the staff and entire experience, this is second to none in Belleville. If you are at the end of a workday, looking for an afternoon snack, a quiet getaway or even casual business lunch, this is your spot! The menu is locally sourced with a comfort food twist. Cheese curds are my favorite. Definitely stop in and you will see what I mean. Cheers!

This is a cute local bar. The staff is wonderful. The food was amazing!!! Katherine was so nice! If I lived here I would be here all the time!

Newly remodeled landmark Charlie's Place is open. Down home style meals. Friendly servers. I think their goal is a Stag in every hand.

Up front, the food was FANTASTIC! I've got to admit, we were there on their 2nd night being open, and it was apparent that they hadn't worked out all the kinks yet. They've done an AWESOME job fixing the place up, and cutting out part of the ceiling to let light through the upper windows in the front. But the food took way too long to be delivered to the table. They were kind enough to keep the drinks coming, making the wait more tolerable. I truly hope they work everything out because I believe it can be a wonderful place to get unique menu items.

The bar was full so my group sat at a high top tables by the windows. We were immediately greeted by our server,who was the owner. He spoke about how he wanted to be able to jump in and help out everywhere which is an amazing thing of a boss not just to say, but to do. We ordered the trash chicken with fries, grilled cheese with onion ring, a few beers and the onion dip. Onion dip was a small "snack" serving but fed 3 of us and we picked and chatted. Chicken sandwich was perfectly spicy & the homemade pickles were the perfect compliment. The grilled cheese is something I need to eat weekly, wishing and praying they pair it with soup as it gets colder out. We agreed that this will be a weekly after work spot for us!

Slow rainy day but it took forever just to get a menu let alone a drink. Menu is very interesting but food does not match the description for example. Potato Leak soup tasted like potato water and it was lukewarm warm. Pot roast sandwich had nice bread but the meat was gray and grisly. Humus was good but you get six little carrots and few crackers for a big cup of hummus. Additional "crudités" delivered but why not do it right to start. Friendly staff but seemed disorganized. Will give it another try but pass on the soup. How hard is soup?

I haven't made it for the food yet, but I'll be back. The menu has a few vegan options, I'm excited. The bartender is very informed. I'm already a fan of the drink choices. This chocolate martini is delicious. The margarita looks good, I'll fond out next time. The great thing about Belleville is the Old school charm that a lot of the downtown bars have, And Charlie's Place doesn't miss !!! So well preserved.

Great food, great service, and unbeatable neighborhood pub atmosphere! Will definitely stop in again when we are in town.

Stopped in Charlie's for a quick late lunch. I ordered their burger and fries and I added cheddar and bacon. The burger was extremely good, and the fries were spot on. The bartender was very friendly. I would definitely recommend.

After a long remodel, and dealing with issues, they opened. Been here 4 times. Had 4 menu items. All were great, reasonably priced...and, the place looks awesome! Add the fact Lily, the manager is a gem. She is super nice, and very sharp. Owner I met is great also! Small menu which works. To me, places with large menus rarely excel. Check this place out!!!

Keep in mind this establishment is still working out the kinks. But...We ordered the Poutine to start. It had absolutely no meat in the gravy(which is how it's made). I ordered the "Trash Chicken" which was SUPPOSED to be a fried chicken breast dipped in, "house hot sauce". The "hot sauce" simply tasted like Frank's Red Hot & instead if a chicken breast, I got 2 Tenders. The person I was with had the fish, which had NO batter and was fried till it was HARD and CHEWY! I understand being a "New Restaurant". But NOT when you're NOT serving things like normal or how they are described on your menu. I think they need a good teaching & supervising chef to avoid these common sense mistakes. I'll re-review in a couple of months when they've had time to get their stuff together.

My boyfriend and I frequently eat and drink at Charlie's. Their Caesar dressing is homemade and delicious. I also love their chicken sandwich. The servers and bartenders are always friendly and attentive.

Really enjoyable atmosphere and delicious food. I had the Belleville trash chicken sandwich. Extremely friendly staff. The place isn't set up for the large crowd it draws so be prepared.

Charlie's is a warm, friendly neighborhood corner bar in the Belleville Illinois historic preservation district. This is a place I go where I can count on a satisfying meal, well poured cocktails, and seeing friends.

Went to Charlie's for the first time. It lived up to the hype. The food and drinks were amazing. We tried a variety of appetizers and I had a salad. Landon is their bartender and his drinks were on point, as always. The server was very attentive- no one ever went thirsty. The prices were great as well. All around a wonderful evening with good friends, great food and fantastic drinks!

I ate at Charlie's Place for the first time and what a pleasant surprise it was! The food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. The grilled cheese sandwich was one of the best I've had, and the fish sandwich was prepared perfectly. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. Think neighborhood bar. I highly recommend giving this hidden gem a try!

Loved it! I had dessert 1st! A warm brownie with chocolate alcohol and caramel sauce. It was fabulous!! They were so amazing, made fresh coffee for me and the best White Russian Mule ever! Then I had the burger and onion rings. Aaahhh, very happy and will definately go back!!

Just had Charlie's for the first time ever, tonight. My wife (29) and I (35) had a wonderful dinner on our date night. I read the reviews and was convinced to try....this place did not disappoint! I ordered the chicken trash burger and for $14 it was massive, literally 2lbs of perfectly fried chicken smothered just right with a Buffalo sauce. My wife had the cod sandwich and it was a full filet cooked beautifully. Coleslaw was good, tarter sauce good and the ranch. We ordered 1 soda, 1 app and 2 meals and our bill was under $45. I was very impressed with Charlie's Place and will be going back! I wish I had taken photos, so I may edit this with photos next time. (Oh the men's restroom smelt like bubble gum, it was cool)
