What a fantastic restaurant experience. The food was divine. The chef had a personal touch on everything. The owners made you feel comfortable and relaxed. If you’re in town, this is a must stop for lunch or dinner.

My girlfriend and I have been going here many times over the past year and it never fails to make our tastebuds jump for joy. I will never not recommend them, the price is good, the food is amazing, it’s simply a treat everytime. (most recently for valentine’s day the gnocchi was to die for)

This place is a gem. I had a sublime lunch there consisting of a wonderful, fresh beet salad, THE best chowder I've ever had and a glass of local wine (surprisingly good). I can't recommend it enough.

I ate at Charlotte's before it was sold and everything about this restaurant was fantastic. This is my second time eating here since it was sold. The first time was very good. However, this time was a huge disappointment. The dining room is well appointed with a nice ambiance. The servier was okay, but not particularly friendly. We both got the impression that she didn't really like her job. The menu is not particulary interesting. We ended up both ordering the Chicken Shawarma. The flavour of the shawarma was excellent. The chef nailed the flavours. However, beyond that the dish was mediocre at best. The chicken was served on a huge bed of basmati rice. Why so much rice? The roasted potatoes were nice, but didn't really fit with the overall dish. The naan bread was gummy. The salad was a huge disappointment. With so many interesting lettuce varities available these days, why choose iceberg lettuce and include peices of the core? The salad also included cherry tomotoes and goat cheese with a slight drizzle of balsamic glaze. Overall, we felt this dish was a huge failure. I do not recommend this restaurant.

We hosted our wedding dinner and reception here last year (July 2022) and it was fabulous. It was so easy working with Emilie and Nakul to create a perfect meal in an intimate setting. We hosted a small wedding with under 20 people. The back room and adjoining patio fit our needs perfectly. Having private access to the patio off the dining room allowed for us to begin with a standing reception outside before sitting down to dinner. It also provided a space for the small children to have fun. Emilie and Nakul were exceptionally responsive and accommodating in the lead up and during the dinner. The menu options were exciting and catered to a lot of different tastes. We offered both vegetarian and meat options. Salads and pork belly appetisers. Veggie curry, slow-roasted beef for mains. About a quarter of our guests were children and Nakul managed to put together beautiful dishes for the younger guests too. Each course was exceptional! We highly recommend considering this place for your next event. It’s a charming restaurant in Shelburne’s historic district. We’re heading back soon for their Sunday brunch that we’ve heard is to die for. Looking forward to seeing the Charlotte Lane crew again!

We were here for a birthday dinner and we loved it all. The warmth of the decor, the friendliness of the staff, the gift shop. And the food! Traditional ingredients but inventive ways to use them. You can taste the freshness of everything used in the recipe, the vegetables are perfectly cooked, the sauces are to die for. Amazing variation on Irish coffee in the end. A small mishap in the orders was dealt with speed and grace. A memorable dinner which makes you want to come back to explore the rest of the menu.

Lovely atmosphere and the most amazing food. We had an incredible 4 course meal with amazing flavors and great presentation. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
We travel along the Eastern Province by sailboat and Charlotte Lane Cafe has been a special treat for us. They have continued to impress us over the years. This was the first time we tried their 4 course meal and at first thought the offering would be too much food. What it was, was very well thought out. The soups were meant to sip and enjoy. The Parsnip soup was outstanding. The beet salad was a perfect compliment after the soup. The dressing was lovely. Though not a big meat eater, I tried the Steak Diane and absolutely loved it. Thank you for such a lovely meal!

Yelp
Loved the ambiance and the menu was interesting. We tried their Thai shrimp beignets as an appetizer and they seemed a little over cooked and by themselves not very flavorful. They were accompanied by a curry sauce which did help and redeemed the dish's flavor. As entrees we tried their scallop special and the lobster and scallop dish on the menu. Expecting pan seared scallops based on asking the wait staff how they were prepared, we were sorely disappointed. Both dishes resulted in scallops that were more steamed than seared. The Sauces needed more richness in their flavor. Mine was the special with garlic sauce. Pretty bland. Husband had a tomato based sauce. Much better than mine.

Yelp
We'll just let me say as a critic of seafood chowder, this place takes the blue ribbon for first prize. I tried (6) different restaurants which were noted for great chowder. The cafe is a little difficult to find, but worth the effort if you like seafood chowder!

Yelp
We are In Shelburne for a few days from Florida and really wanted to try this restaurant. When we stopped in to make a reservation, they were booked, closed for the next two days , and we were leaving the area in a few days...we were SOOOOO DISAPPOINTED...and then They said they would fit us in on the early seating TODAY!! So, we walked around the waterfront and had beers with the locals at The Galley (highly recommended!). Well, it was so worth it. We sat on the outside patio and had the best Food Server and the food was Outstanding! We started with the Nova Scotia Smoked seafood plate and seafood Chowder, both amazing. I had the Steak and Lobster tail, Hubby had the scallops and Shrimp...both came with fresh veggies and potato or rice. We really loved all of the food. We asked the Food Server to pick a dessert and she brought us the most amazing sticky toffee ever. We also had some local Nova Scotia wines and they were fabulous! Next stop, The Winery! This Restaurant was simply perfect in every way, even the Old historic building that houses it. Highly recommended in every way.

Yelp
Good gluten free menu! It's always a pleasure when you can go to a restaurant and you have normal options. I had the lunch combo with a sandwich and salad which was a very tasty and a reasonable price. I definitely recommend the Blue Nose salad.

Yelp
For our first night touring the Nova Scotia coast, we stayed at an excellent B&B called The Cooper's Inn, in Shelburne. The proprietor of the Inn, directed us to Charlotte Lane for dinner that evening and we were very pleased with the meal. We divided a Garden Patch Salad that was very fresh and good. Ms T chose Seafood Crepe Casserole which was also very good, loaded with seafood; haddock, shrimp and scallops. It also had mushrooms and was topped with plenty of cheese and was very rich. The cheese was a little excessive. I selected Pork Tenderloin Zurich style. This was excellent, in a demi-glace with mushrooms and served with delicious buttery, crusty rosti potatoes. I loved it. We can highly recommend this cozy place for dinner and probably for lunch. We were able to get in on short notice but reservations are recommended. We had excellent, thoughtfully prepared and seasoned food in a nice atmosphere. I would rate it 4-1/2 stars if I could.

Yelp
A very small cafe in back of a cute gift shop. Colorful, cozy atmosphere. Great food! The chowder was outstanding! The tuna crunch salad sandwich was tasty. Service was very attentive. Good craft brew selection. Make a reservation.

A great place to eat! Service is superb! And so is the food! Choise of wine for everybody's 's taste there is a bottle... or a glass! I am absolutely sure it's the best restaurant in town!

Yelp
Charlotte lane is my all time favourite restaurant, the service is debatably better then the food, and the food is outstanding!!the best part was the waitress Nikita, she is the nicest person you'd ever meet she made me laugh she held a nice conversation, and she connects to the costumers. Yelp
My wife and I had a great meal. We probably wouldn't have gone if it weren't for the gift certificate from a thoughtful family member prior to our vacation as driving from anywhere to anywhere in southern NS entails 45 minutes of driving. I got the fish chowder for an appetizer - fantastic. Creamy, but not thick and chock full of fish, scallops, and potatoes. My wife had a tasty fresh salad. Dinner was all about seafood. I got a 'casserole' of lobster and scallops in a brandy cream sauce and topped with melted cheese. It was very good (and filling), but there frankly has to be a more flavorful/sharp way to treat such delicious fresh local specialties than dousing them in cream and covering them with cheese. But I did order it after all, so it's on me. My wife had much the same experience with her dish which was quite similar except with a dill based cream sauce. Dessert was straight up ordinary. The white chocolate cheesecake was delicious, but drowned in sickly sweet raspberry sauce. My wife's chocolate ice cream cake was good, but nothing you couldn't get in a chain type restaurant. Overall a solidly good meal, which given the locale and the lack of other upscale options gets a ground rule boost to four stars. This would be a three star place in any major metropolitan area. Service was attentive and polite. The decor was very cute and the town itself looks like its right out of the 1700's.

Yelp
Charlotte Lane is consistently high on my list of places I recommend to others. They're a quaint restaurant with a fun gift shop tucked away on a side street on the Shelburne waterfront. Their gift shop holds lots of neat Atlantic Canadian items. Their service is usually spot on. Efficient, friendly warm and welcoming without being overbearing. Their food is fantastic. I have yet to have a "meh" meal - and I don't expect that to ever happen. They keep their plates simple without sacrificing flavor or presentation. Because they're on the smaller side besure to call ahead for a reservation or arrive early to avoid having to wait. If you visit them on a nice day grab a seat outside on their patio. If you're in the area and are looking for locally inspired dishes for lunch or dinner, stop in and pay them a visit.

Yelp
Fantastic food in a cozy atmosphere. Love their sandwich and salad combo for lunch. And who does not like white chocolate pumpkin cheesecake.

Yelp
There are plenty of places in Nova Scotia that can steam, grill, or fry seafood well. If you're looking for something different and excellent, try Charlotte Lane Restaurant. The zucchini frittata was to die for and the roasted pepper and tomato soup superb. If you want steamed mussels or seafood chowder, they have that too.

Yelp
Came upon Charlotte Lane Restaurant by chance while visiting the area and were pleasantly surprised. It's a small space tucked away in the back of a gift shop, and it seems to fill up quickly - we saw online that reservations were recommended and were glad we called ahead. The staff were busy but attentive. The two of us had a number of dietary restrictions (vegetarian, lactose-intolerant, and a couple of things we need to avoid) and were happy to have options. Two highlights were the zucchini piccata (I think that's what it was? Whatever it's called, highly recommended!) and coconut milk dessert. It's pricier than some of the other options in the area but a great pick if you're looking for a tasty, more dressed-up dining experience.

Yelp
This is a nice place to dine, with a nice atmosphere. But, the food is a little bland and overpriced.

Yelp
Great food, delicious sauces, courteous service, interesting salads, some of the best soup I have ever eaten. Charlottes' has a pleasant welcoming atmosphere, both inside and out. My favorite meal includes a Cesar salad, zucchini hors d'oeurves, possibly Roland's terrific soup and that's enough, but the scallop fettuccine is hard to resist. The deserts are pretty terrific too. Just in case you are dieting, steamed fresh vegetables are available. Great restaurant.

Yelp
Great little restaurant was voted "Best small restaurant in NS" in 2010 and Taste of Nova Scotia's "Restaurant of the Year" in 2011. Great wine list, including several Nova Scotia wines, top-notch food and prompt, friendly service. The menu, like the wine list, is not overly varied, but there will be something to please most anyone from the selection of appetizers and salads through a dozen or so entrees and eventually, if you still have room, a half dozen delicious desserts. Chef Roland Glausser never fails to deliver with fresh ingredients (you can catch him at the farmers' market in season), attractive presentation and mouth-watering taste. It's Nova Scotia, so the de rigeur seafood dishes are marvelous, but the menu also includes great beef, pork, lamb and chicken dishes, as well as plenty for the vegetarian set. Host Kathleen and her staff are attentive but not intrusive. If you choose to engage in a little witty repartee, be forewarned - they do not come unarmed. This is where we go when we want a special treat, either for ourselves or to impress out-of-town guests. You can also browse the gift shop for a unique item from a Nova Scotia artisan while you are there. Reservations recommended, although not always necessary. Sure to please. Www.charlottelane.ca

Yelp
Charlotte Lane is a lovely little restaurant in downtown Shelburne. Located on a quiet side-street in a refurbished old house, the restaurant is a cozy, comfortable place to go with friends and just swish enough to impress your parents if you want to take them there. The menu is short, but diverse enough that vegetarians and carnivores can dine together. But since you've made the trip to the deep South Shore, choose anything Chef Glausser makes with fish. We haven't gone wrong with the daily specials, the salads, and anything fishy. We haven't been often enough to try everything, but when plates are brought past us, the aromas are delicious. The wine list is also short but the selections are well matched to the food available, including several Nova Scotian offerings. The staff are excellent; attentive, knowledgeable, and as funny as you need them to be (apparently "great sense of humour" is a requirement). In the summer, make a reservation or you probably won't get in! Seats on the patio can come with free entertainment, particularly if you're there during Loyalist Days, because the restaurant is located just above the main performance stage. Parking can be an issue on Charlotte Lane, but there's plenty of street parking within a block.
