Charlottenburg Palace

We had a wonderful visit here earlier this year. A beautifully decorated and superb example of old palaces that have been restored. Not difficult to get to as the transport system locally is excellent, I try us well worth the visit. It is required to book a time in advance, my advice is to book early as there is such a lot to see. Thoroughly enjoyed the walk through history that it afforded us. Thank you.

Paid €19 for all inclusive tickets, well worth it. Beautiful interior and gardens, marvellous exhibitions. Stunning all over. You can store your bag in garderobe in old buildings, but new buildings has lockers for luggage. So very convenient Very helpful staff, very kind.

Loved it. Beautiful inside, the gardens are nice to walk through, and the staff are friendly. The price is decent. I recommend it. My only small complaint is they could use two of the information plaques in the rooms. We were often waiting and waiting to view one or just gave up and walked through, not knowing what it said.

It's not as big or impressive as you'd expect. The 2 ball rooms are very well decorated, but other than that, there's not much to see. I wouldn't really recommend it, especially for the price (19euros)

Beautiful palace, restored very carefully. Has multiple sites for visiting. The private villa is small but interesting. The garden has free access, and it is part of a bigger park.

This was a great experience. The palace is far bigger and grander than I'd expected, the rooms and decor are varied and all unbelievably preserved. It certainly The art, jewels, silverware and historical items were intricate and very grand and the gardens maintained very well. Id recommend the ticket for all areas as both the old and new wings are definitely worth a visit

amazing and through the extraordinary. it's such a shame this place got destroyed in second world war. Yet they truly made the excellent job on restoring it. I would recommend everyone to visit this place. there is two parts and I would like you to recommend that you at least give one hour each.

One of the loveliest palaces I've visited in Berlin – so worth the money. The rooms are stunning, the details are something you don't want to miss, and I was particularly in love with all the chandeliers! The art was also very fitting, and you can also read some of the information in specific rooms, which was very interesting, since I wasn't familiar with the whole history of this place. The Palace is lovely on the outside, too, with calm gardens to enjoy a walk through. The staff was also very polite and recommended which tickets we should get. A beautiful gem! 😊

Beautiful palace with lots to see. The main palace doesn't take too long if you don't spend too much time looking at everything. The outside was huge but pretty. Lockers to leave your stuff were easy to use. Also really easy to get here using the bus, but it does take some time to get here from the main city.

Huge historic palace in the outer parts of the city. They have a beautiful garden that you can walk through for free. It's a lovely place to visit and spend half a day or so. You can buy tickets online and book a time slot. My complaints are they do not have restrooms in the main area. You have to walk pretty far to another area and pay 50 cents. They also don't have anything for dining or drinks on sight so bring some water, maybe a picnic and research the area for restaurants. It's a bit out of the way and will take a lot of walking so bring good shoes, the metro stop is 15 minutes away I took a taxi there and metro back. Overall it's a top sight worth seeing.

Having been through several castles and royal residences, I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I don't have much love for monarchs or other autocratic leaders, and worry that glorifying monarchy will have some ill effects. On the other hand, visiting a place like this is a uniquely powerful way to learn about the history of a particular era. Schloss Charlottenburg staff do a fine job of accepting tickets, checking coats, distributing audio-tour devices, and generally pointing you in the right direction. The gift shop has plenty of fine reading selections. On a good-weather day, strolling through the palace gardens may be the best part!

Traveling with others is fun because they might suggest something we might not have otherwise done. This palace is one of those things, and we're happy we visited. We took a train to a bus to get here since we had travel passes in Berlin. We bought passes at the old palace, which includes an audio guide and other parts of the palace. There's a free coat check so you don't have to carry items around. The old palace has a great history, and lots of artwork. Using the audio guide it will take over an hour to get through, but well worth it. The new palace we opted to just walk through and not take an audio guide. It was equally beautiful.

It's an interesting place to visit. If you like to visit palaces it's a good one. Also fantastic garden. Not to big, not to small. Friendly staff, very well organized. Also a cool neighborhood with some unique local places to eat.

I came to Berlin during a very cold and freezing winter with yelper Sigourney W. and we decided to check out Schloss Charlottenburg because we didn't want to trek out to Potsdam. Well, it was slightly disappointing because a lot of the Palace was reconstructed, as it was destroyed during World War II (there's some exhibit talking about the reconstruction)--but hey, that's to be expected since lots of historical buildings in Germany were destroyed during the War. Apparently, the price you pay for entry covers other palaces in Berlin, so it's a pretty good deal if you want to spend your entire day touring palaces. They also have a student fare too (studentenpreis) for those in college, high school, etc. An audio tour is also included free with the price of admission. I found the palace to be similar to Versailles with their hall of mirrors type arrangement, and the architecture & furniture similar to the Residenz in Munich. But the room that I found very unique was the Porcelain Cabinet room which contained thousands of pieces of Chinese porcelain. It was overwhelming to look at, but it was definitely quite a sight. I really loved that room. The palace itself can get very cold during the winter, so bring a jacket. There are plenty of beautiful windows that allow you to look outside. Looking outside those windows takes you back hundreds of years, and you can imagine yourself--like a King or Queen in such a magnificent palace.

I went back a couple of months after my original review and the description of the photo rules had been improved/clarified .

My friend and I went here when I first came over to visit them and it was really pretty. It was not what I was expecting when they told me we would be visiting a palace. I really liked each of the rooms and it was nice to listen to the history of the place. If you want to take photos it is I believe an extra 3 euro. They give you a special band so no one bothers you. Small purses you dont have to check in but other than that you do. Anytime of the day is fine to visit it seems. There will always be some crowds but not annoyingly so. Behind the palace the gardens is especially beautiful and nice to walk and take an evening stroll through.

This place is gorgeous. Reserve plenty of time to see it because it is really big. Plenty of places to see and gardens to walk around. I've been to other castles in Germany but this one is def the biggest and the one I liked better. I spent most of the time in the older session, as it was one with more historical information. You can even sit down a little while you read and check out stuff. After all that walk and reading there are plenty of coffee places in the neighborhood. Amazing place.

Schloss Charlottenburg as the largest palace and the only surviving royal residence in Berlin. It is rarely can see what a historical and beautiful palace could found in the modern day of Berline. Because of this, Charlottenburg Palace is always on the top of most tourist's visit list. It is located in the Charlottenburg district, not so far from the center of Berlin, if you go there from Stadtmitte by public transportations, it probably took about 30 mins. It isn't so close with the other famous sightseeing places, just pick a day just for this place, it is really worth it. This place is huge, I spent half of my day to explored. It was really amazing, lots to see, the palace itself definitely was a stunning piece. Pity for me, when I was there, the palace was closed, didn't got a glance of the beauty inside. Behind the palace, it got a really beautiful and big garde, very royal family like. It simply made this place perfect to have a walk and making pictures. The garden itself surrounded by the woodlamd. I saw some little ponds there, it was really beautiful and peaceful. I was there in the summer time, it was the best time to visit, all the flowers were flowering, trees were green. It's kinda hard to imagine that this place was badly damaged during the Second World War. If you ask me where to visit in Berlin, this is definitely the place you can't miss. I really like it here, cultural and beautiful, especially in summer. Just look up the open hours for the palace before your visit, I heard lot good things about it as well.

Schloss Charlottenburg was the most overwhelming Schloss that I saw in Germany. There are endless rooms mostly filled with art and furniture from other palaces. Some of the art was the classic super famous art history paintings. The audio tours for the art can be overwhelmingly long, so after several hours I started skipping paintings that I was less interested in. Largely destroyed during WWII, the palace is not in original condition or as authentic. I was fascinated by pictures of the restoration and picture of the palace's condition just after the war. I cannot believe what a mess it was. They did an amazing job on the restoration however some of the rooms now have modern paintings on the ceilings. On of the staff here was actually superbly nice to me. I had forgotten my student ID, so she said that I could be "a kid for the day" and gave me the child rate. Some of the other staff can be very particular about how you carry your backpack though. I would recommend just checking any large bags if you want to avoid having security guards grabbing the bag off your back and holding the straps out in front of you until you wear it on your front.

Although I have been to Schloss Charlottenburg a couple of times, I've never actually gone inside, unless a stroll through the gift shop qualifies. But while people will testify that it's a beautiful tour inside, the grounds are the selling point for me. At the very least, visitors should walk around the exterior, which consists of an old and a new wing, much of it done in the baroque style. Yet the beauty of the palace lies not so much in its architecture but in the surrounding nature. The gardens are particularly great, because they are so vast, and extend relatively far. The various paths and walkways are perfect for joggers, but they're also perfect for dog walkers, picnic lunches, or taking a stroll with a friend. Along the way, there are things to see (other buildings on the grounds, various trees and plants). Eventually I imagine I'll come back and see the inside - in particular I am excited about a porcelain collection, as well as the crown jewels - but that strikes me more as an activity to do when my parents are around.

It's really beautiful and the audio guide you get inside with headphones makes the tour very interesting. You are unfortunately not allowed to take photos in there and its almost one guard in every room. For 12 Euro you get a day ticket and it also include entry to almost all palaces in Berlin and Potsdam.

The palace is amazing, maybe because it's the first real palace I've been to. Most of the palace has survived WWII, and there are so many examples of artwork from different parts of the world collected in one huge building. Some of the rooms have every inch covered in artwork, so even the walls have lace on them. But just as amazing (for myself as a runner) is the garden in the back. There's a nice trail that I run on which is about 1.5 miles around (depending on which route you take) which goes by a river, is generally pretty flat and easy to run on with dirt trails. It makes for a nice morning or evening walk in the summer as well.

Unfortunately time was a large factor for us so we only took a walk around the gardens. I love that anyone can walk freely around the grounds enjoying the stunning surroundings of Schloss Charlottenburg. The gardens are beautifully kept, ideal for a casual stroll or a summer picnic even to feed the ducks and swans. The pathways are dirt/gravel tracks so best not to wear flip flops. You can visit the family mausoleum and summer houses too.

We purchased tickets directly through the website for dinner and orchestra, as I heard it was the most romantic thing to do in Berlin. Well, the tickets said 8pm and when we arrived promptly at 8 we were told that we had missed the dinner, which was at 6!!! Needless to say we were very disappointed and it has been a nightmare trying to get a refund. I called and they were supposed to take care of it but now they are not responding or doing anything to proceed with refunding us our money!!!

I felt quite humble walking round this magnificent place.

It is a wonderful palace surrounding with beautiful nature. It is worth going there because it's garden is very relaxing. Suggested as a whole-day programme because it's really huge.

The palace itself is very beautiful. Sadly, because of the war, things have been damaged. The decorations are very, very beautiful. The gardens are also very beautiful, and there is also a small lake with ducks and swans. The other buildings that are in the garden are very cool as well. Definitely worth a visit. However, the audio guide might be a bit boring for younger kids.

so far as a palace goes, this one is really unimpressive. there is some decent artwork and statues inside the museum, and on the grounds, but it's kinda boring overall. understandable, since this was really a summer home for the Prussian royalty back in the day, and not their all-year palace. the palaces in Munich are MUCH better, but that's for later reviews.. however, the staff here is, to put it bluntly, not nice, and that is why I must sadly make my 250th Yelp review a negative one: I showed my student ID in order to get a discount, and the lady at the ticket desk had the nerve to argue with me that it was not a valid ID, and that it was a fake! I threatened to leave, and told her she was either getting my half-price admission, or none at all, so she grudging gave me a half-price ticket. I noticed other people arguing with other ticket clerks, so this wasn't just a fluke. look, I get it, service jobs are not the best paying or mind-stimulating, but you could at least try to be helpful if you are part of the staff of a historic monument. save the admission, skip Charlottenburg.

This was the very first palace I visited in Germany. We took a tour of the palace using the headphones they provide in several languages. It was quite stunning in there!! Only problem is you can't take photos. I saw that some guy had a red band which he paid for. That allowed him to take photos. But I don't know if they give them for personal use or not. I was able to take some photos though when I noticed a lot of people were taking them and weren't bothered by the supervisors. I wasn't aware of whether they were wearing the bands at that point as I didn't know about them being available until I was caught. The gardens are for free so don't be fooled by the ticket sales people trying to convince you that the ticket price includes access to the grounds. The gardens were beautiful. We unfortunately couldn't go everywhere because we were meeting some other people that day. I'd have spent at least half a day there. It was very serene. I'd definitely go back again.

This is a gorgeous palace that's a little outside the city. Sure, it may take a while to reach, but it's totally worth the trek. Both the rooms in the palace and the extensive garden that surrounds it are beautiful and worth exploring extensively. If you're a jogger, the garden even has a nice trail throughout! The palace itself was constructed in that European style that many are familiar with (think Versailles, or even Vienna). It's grand, occasionally overwhelming, but definitely worth at least one visit.

Beautiful. Someone told me they also do open air cinema in Summer, that will be really fun, looking forward for summer to come...

Worht a visit, great history, beautiful gardens but keep in mind that everything has been rebuilt after the war. Lots of history and art but everything is really well done. Recommend the audio tour. The gardens are a perfect place for a romantic stroll during the day or early evening.

I think, this is the only palace which has not been destroyed during the war. I've impressed by their room which was looking as they were earlier, fabulous view of the garden and a lake. Berlin places to visit (http://www.europevoyage.net/top-attractions-in-berlin.html)

Very beautiful place.. and not damaged from the war.. You may have a nice walk outside or visit inside too.. Wouldn't recommend it that much in winter though.. Enjoy it in summer..

Great place to go for a jog and enjoy the summer or winter breeze. The park is very well kept and you will not be dissapointed.!

the new wing is the part worth seeing here. amazing colorful interiors, unlike anything else you'll see in the city. definitely worth a visit, even for residents. the beautiful garden on the other side is also worth a look in the summer for it's calming arrangement and fantastic landscaping.

the best time to go is early in the evening on the bi-annual Night of the Museums on your way to checking out many other cool places included in the price of the ticket (that also includes transportation)
