Charly taberna

Tucked into the corner of the plaza, Charly’s Taberna is the kind of place you find by accident and then tell everyone about knowing you’re giving away a secret. Two-for-one beers set the tone: unpretentious, a little mischievous, the sort of deal that makes you settle in for “just one more.” The food? That crispy pork belly pure alchemy. Skin like glass, shattering under your teeth, fat melting away into something almost sweet. Pintxos that don’t overcomplicate things, just get them right. It’s not fancy, but it doesn’t need to be. Charly’s is for drinking cold beer, eating food that makes you happy, and feeling like you’ve lucked into the best seat in the square. Highly recommended.

Very tasty pintxos eaten in this cozy, but busy courtyard. The possibility to take a plateau of 6 or 12 pintxos of your choice is interesting.

In my opinion Bar Charly has the best rabas in town. Head there on the weekend for a ración de rabas (think fried calimare only infinitely better) which is a Bilbao specialty. Their selection of bar top pintxos is superb with both traditional classics and modern gems. Staff is friendly and helpful. The bar is nearly always crowded but is worth wading through the masses.

Popped in for a what Jorvic calls our Croatian breakfast..a small beer and a coffee.Also tried the ham buttie. Nice, small bar with some outdoor seating. Amstel beer. One of many good bars on the square...could spend the day going round them all....Also tried the tortilla, lovely and guey..worth the fifth star.

We really liked their pinchos, they had a very good variety of options, we especially liked the cheesy one. Good service.
