This May Be Europe's Most Charming Ski Town—With Affordable Tickets, Epic Après-ski Bars, and Long Sledding Trails

"A smaller but still jovial après scene opposite the Planai gondola, this cozier local spot is far more manageable if you don’t love a huge crowd but still want a relaxed drink after an epic day on the mountain." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. I met my wife here 33 years ago, so I thought I would bring her back here for our anniversary. The place did not disappoint. After being seated in a spacious dining room with wall to wall dated artifacts of Flagstaff's golden era, we were provided with an ample menu. The place now features a couple of full bars with plenty of things to do. Gone is the hostel, turned into a rather swanky historical B&B experience. I asked for recommendations, and the server showed her knowledge of the menu. We went with the Navajo Taco and the birria tacos - both were outstanding. The birria tacos were as good as anything you could find on an LA taco truck, which is a gastronomic zenith for taco snobs. This Navajo taco topped the one we had out in Monument Valley, by far. This was an outstanding stop - excellent staff, beautiful surroundings, and wonderful food. Its great to see that some things may change, and do so for the better. Highly recommend.

We found Charly's because I was looking for a place that served French Onion soup - and it did not disappoint! The broth was rich and salty (which I prefer over sweet), loaded with onions, and perfectly done cheese. **chef's kiss** Others in my party enjoyed the Bartenders (chicken tenders), which were nicely battered and juicy, and the fried shrimp. Both came with generous portions of waffle fries. There were enough options for all tastes and ages. Our server, Zack, was also excellent! Heads up, since this is a restaurant at a historic hotel, they do add "historic preservation " fees to the bill. That was new for me... All in this was a great place to eat and would definitely recommend.

Found out about this hotel and restaurant from our underground tour and came back to try it out. They had fun custom drinks that were delicious. We had the French onion soup and house salad for starters but were very good. We also had the broken hearted chicken pasta overall was good but lacked some flavor. It is a historical building and so fun to look at. Server was very friendly and helpful. Would recommend for cocktails for sure.

The service was ok, but the food and drinks were terrible. We ordered drinks, two beers and a manhattan. They said the bar was a little backed up, which we get, but we ate our entire meals and still No drinks. The table next to us came while we were eating our apps and got the cocktails right away. We never saw our waiter again, no refills on waters or checking in on the food. Water glasses were empty since we had gotten our appetizers. We grabbed a waitress walking by asking about our drinks and she said the bar was busy. We mentioned how the tables around us had gotten theirs and we were done our meals so to just cancel the drinks. About 4 minutes later, drinks came out as we are about to ask for the check. We said we canceled them but would take them so they weren’t wasted. He said they couldn’t give drinks for free, so we said how about they just take off an app to cover it. We were really looking forward to trying the local beer. They said they couldn’t do that and were going to poor them out. When the bill came, the 20% was already added to the bill. I ordered a French dip sandwich. The waiter asked me if I wanted peppers and the cheese on the sandwich. I said yes assuming this was a normal question to ask. They charged me extra for these items on my sandwich. When we wanted to talk to the waiter more about our experience and if he could talk to the manager about our situation, he was dismissive and walked away as soon as the bill was paid.

We have never eaten at Charlys, so this is a review of the pub. Always enjoy the music, drinks and atmosphere. The Irish coffees were excellent.

Google
The service was absolute garbage. We ordered our appetizers and when they arrived the waiter provided no additional plates to put them on. Then we ordered our drinks and food. Our food came in the next 10 to 15 minutes, and I have to say it was not the best. It was next to flavorless. After we finished the appetizers our food had come and we had not gotten the 4 drinks we ordered from the bar. We then ate for 40 minutes. We had finished our dinner and were waiting for 10 minutes to get our check. The waiter was no where in sight the entire meal. Finally the waiter came and gave us our drinks. We asked him to have the drinks on the house because of the terrible service. He said he would talk to his manager and left in a hurry. He came back shortly with the check. He gave us no reason or explanation for the delay. Then we paid and asked him what he had done with the drinks. He told us that they pored them out. In my opinion this is a double waste of money and quite pointless.the whole experience felt quite off. I would thoroughly advise not eating here if you want a laid back and easy meal.

I have been waiting to come here for a while and I was not disappointed! They have an old school menu that matches the vibe. We sat on the patio with our dog. We had the mini macho nacho, perfect size for sharing. Our dog had the chicken meal from the dog menu. We also had fish tacos and the portobello sandwich. The waffle fries were excellent. Simple food done right.

Teresa and I shared the Fish and chips, French onion soup, and grilled corn. The French onion soup was one of the best I've had. The top bread was grilled crunchy before being added to the top of the soup and broiled either cheese. That gave it a crunchy chewy texture instead of mushy that comes with most French onion soups. Also loaded with onions. Delicious. The fish was flaky and meaty. The batter was slightly heavy but had a nice crunch to it. cole slaw was a bit over dressed but had a nice refreshing flavor that paired well with the fish. The grilled corn was sweet with a touch of spice. Sydney, our waitress was as sweet as could be and gave us the perfect amount of attention. Overall, a great dining experience. Charley's is found inside the Weatherford Hotel but has a nice outside dining area.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in a historic hotel. We are always on the hunt for interesting places to eat and this one fit the bill Interior was cool and we were given a window seat which was great so we could look outside at people passing by The menu has a little bit of something for everyone My new motto is if something is interesting sounding on the specials menu - get it! They had a potato green chile soup as the special and it was amazing! Cup was a large portion served with a roll and both were delicious! We also got the grilled chicken club which was good and someone else got the French dip. The waffle fries served with both were delicious . The chicken on the club was marinated and was well cooked and came with tasty bacon! We asked for the sauce served on the side which was good - because we did not enjoy that sauce but the sandwich itself was large and tasty I didn't taste the French dip - it the person who got it said it was ok but not great. The sauce served with it was very tasty and I snagged it to dip my fries Restroom was clean and service was good, and I would come back. Prices were decent as well but in looking at the receipt - they charge a historic tax charge - no way to get around it but I hope they are using it to save historic buildings

Yelp
The food was good. The temp of the pasta I ordered could've been hotter. The ambience was old-school. It was located inside a historic hotel. The service was excellent. I can't complain there. Overall I would recommend this place.

Yelp
Stopped here for drinks and decided to eat too -- decent bar food. Ordered fish and chips, chicken tenders and clam chowder. All were good. Had the warm apple cider too. Part of the historic Weatherford Hotel.

Yelp
Food was good as always; second time getting the Navajo taco and it doesn't disappoint! We took 2 dogs with us and sat on the patio. I had called ahead and knew they were dog friendly. But upon arrival they brought a water bowl out for the dogs with our waters! Then they gave us a menu of meals for the dogs. LOVED this- especially the options, my dog has a chicken allergy and we had no issues picking something without chicken! Love that they are not only dog friendly but cater to them! Will be coming back again.

Yelp
My husband and I had lunch here with a friend. We came because of the Navajo Tacos. Our friend wanted a vegetarian Navajo Taco. My husband and I each ordered the beef Navajo Taco. Our tacos came with tender pot roast not hamburger. They had firm, whole pinto beans not refried beans. They were extremely large. We should have split one. The menu says their Navajo tacos have a good rating. We sat outdoors. My husband said he would rate the beef Navajo Taco a 4 or a 5. I would rate it a 4. I prefer a less hearty taco with hamburger and refried beans. We sat outside. The service was good.

Yelp
We had ticket to go see a friend at the Orpheum but got there early so walked around to grab a cocktail. We came across Charly's from the door when we heard this amazing band playing inside! It is a great space and even a small area in front of the band to dance! It was a busy night but the bartender was great and we had a couple beers while we listened. Haven't had the meals there yet, but it is a def recommend morning or evening!

Yelp
Staff members are super friendly but unfortunately they're not set up to succeed. They seem to be understaffed often.

Yelp
The food is nothing particularly special but it is solid and it is consistent. A nice selection of beer and a couple of unusual ones. The problem is the service it is extremely slow and the server seem to lack anything that remotely resembles personality.. they take your order they take it in back you don't see them again they don't check on you. Also there appears to be high turnover of employees.

Yelp
Great classic bar and grill. Food and bevs are always great. Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Broad menu but not sure the Mexican food was best fit for the atmosphere. Food was ok, the bar drinks were cold and reasonably priced. Service was good and the patio was a nice relaxing spot.

Yelp
Server was awesome! However food tasted older than the hotel itself. Haha. The pasta used velveeta cheese! My steak was raw and chewy :( overall tasted like theme park food if you're into that

Courtney M.

Yelp
Food is great, service is bad. Waited had to void out charges 3 different times because he didn't put them in correctly.

Yelp
The best Irish coffee in Flagstaff, Arizona! Too bad I didn't take a picture before it was all gone!

Bill S.

Yelp
The historic Weatherford Hotel has hit a home run this time with the additional of a classic Irish Coffee Bar serving all coffee drinks, Irish coffee, and breakfast. Opening in October of 2020 it is already a hit and was featured in the local Flag newspaper. The space is wonderful and so inviting. Built over 100 hundred years ago it features a pot belly stove, beautiful wooden bar and brick fireplace with seating inside and out. Had an Irish coffee and a breakfast burrito. The Irish coffee is as good or better than several I have had in Dublin. Think Buena Vista in San Francisco. The breakfast burrito was outstanding with potatoes, green chilis, cheese and bacon. Big enough for two people. Lastly the service is off the wall with Zack and Catherine not only whipping up wonderful drinks and food but able to share the history of the hotel thru the many old photos displayed on the walls. So next time you are in Flagstaff stop in and enjoy a really fun experience.

Yelp
What a great addition to downtown Flagstaff. It's in the perfect spot: convenient, historical, and good for people watching. Zach is a charismatic dude and makes a mean coffee. I'll be stopping here every time I'm downtown.
