"Once just a popular food truck in a temporary locale, Charly’s now has its own permanent location on Tulum’s hip hotel strip. Its chefs have managed to take traditional Mexican meat-based dishes and turn them into 100-percent vegan recipes while still maintaining the classic flavors. Try the vegetarian version of an aguachile (seafood marinated in lime juice, onion, and chili) or a trio of tacos with your fillings and toppings of choice, like imitation carnitas, porkless crackling, or mushrooms. Best of all is the restaurant’s garden location, whose atmosphere of cool, beachy charm features shady trees and wicker lanterns."
Great place for vegan tacos. Some of the dishes could have been slightly more seasoned, though. Also, if you are looking for a very chilled place in a kind of food truck environment that is less crowded, this is your place to go. It’s less busy as it is at the end of the hotel zone at the beach but that doesn’t make it less delicious!
PS: we’ve been there in February and I’m just seeing that they are temporarily closed - fingers crossed they will open again.

We aren’t usually vegans but this place blew us away. Comes down to great sauces and great tortillas. Highly recommend for an easy meal and good drink specials (we had a tasty sangria but the deal changes) You won’t regret it. Lovely service too!
If you go at night bring bug spray and maybe a flashlight to help the walk back home.

The flavors at Charly’s were really delicious like most reviews show. The staff was very friendly and the salsa/pickle bar was all very good.
I am not a vegan so take this part with whatever grain of salt you need... My only issue with the menu is how much seitan is used. My hope was that they were using more local veggies and flavors to create something really great, but I don’t necessarily understand replacing meat with compressed gluten. Charly’s boasts on their menu ‘the best vegan tacos of LA’ and the seitan to me kind of shows they are LA tacos in tulum.
But regardless of that, they really do know what they are doing with flavor, everything was all very good (although I do think it was a bit pricy).
If you are vegan I highly recommend Charly’s. If you are intrigued in trying the best seitan has to offer, I recommend it. If you are a meat eater, I would maybe take a pass.
Side note: cocktail was one of the best I had in tulum. So worth a stop for the guacamole and drinks alone.

These were up there with some of the better tacos we had in Tulum and that’s including those that were non vegan. Very cute place with plenty of seats and great home made sodas! A little bit tucked out of the way so you’ll want your bikes.

Amazing food and drinks! The passion fruit drink was unlike anything I’ve had before and the tacos were some of the best I’ve ever had. Even impressed my Mexican friends 😉

Really nice place, cosy ambience. Everything is vegan. Had the munchy nachos (which is a lot of food), which was delicious sticky finger food, and charlys tacos. Staff was nice, the ice tea is really good.

This place is wonderful. So delicious. My boyfriend and I aren’t vegan, but we loved almost everything on the menu! Will definitely be back! Some of the best guacamole I’ve ever had in my life.
