"You probably won’t want to spread your beach blanket out on Charmouth Beach, but if you have a keen eye and good hiking shoes, you just might find a few dinosaur fossils.
Charmouth Beach lies in the middle of what is known as the Jurassic Coast, a 95-mile stretch of cliffs along the southern coast of England known for its ancient dinosaur fossils. Although it is called the Jurassic Coast, fossils from the area actually span the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, which rounds out to about 180 million years of history.
Interested visitors can also make their way to the Charmouth Heritage Coast Center, where major discoveries and the history of the village is documented. The Heritage Center works to encourage the safe and sustainable collection of fossils from the rocky beaches around the village." - ATLAS_OBSCURA
A great way to pass the time - hunting for fossils on the pebble beach at Charmouth. The area is famous for the many fossils that have been found over the years, and is now a world heritage site too.
There is paid parking that leads directly on to the beach and a couple of cafes for snacks and cakes. There is also a shop selling fossils and crystals, plus a mini museum.
Once you cross the bridge over the river estuary you can follow the signposted coastal path if you fancy a longer walk with stunning views of the cliffs and beach.
Well worth a visit!

A beautiful town in Dorset, we stayed in a cottage in Charmouth, and the beach was a 10 minute incredibly steep walk down hill. A beautiful beach with the chance to find some fossils. The walk and views were stunning. Would recommend visiting. Charmouth is also very close (by car) to a lot of points of interest, including West Bay, Lyme Regis, Seatown Beach, Golden Cap, etc. Great place to stay, and the walks are fabulous.

Spent the afternoon wandering up and down the beach enjoying the fresh air looking for fossils. Although we didn't find much it was still very entertaining.
Go when the tide is receding as it is exposing new stuff all the time and be aware that the cliffs can be unstable.
Good visitor centre, car parks and toilets available.

Lovely clean beach. There is plenty of parking right next to it, a small cafe and museum. Toilets on site. Lots of sea glass and fossils to be found. This beach is a mixture of sand and tiny stones. Bigger rocks to the right. The left-hand side is dog friendly too all year round 😍🥰.
We have been present when the cliff sides collapsed, so follow warnings and do not dig into them or walk along on top or sit underneath.

Just used car park for a quick stop on my way to Durdle Door, hadn't been down there for over 55 years. Still as lovely as I remembered it.
