The Best Shopping in Paris, According to French Fashion Insider Sarah de Mavaleix | Vogue

"Charvet is the oldest and most traditional shirt maker and also my favorite shop: the silk scarves, elasticated belts, men’s nightgowns that you can wear as dresses, the slippers, of course, and the colorful shirts. I’m actually dreaming about a new shirt from there. Fingers crossed!" - Zoe Ruffner

Google
Family-owned sartorial institution for bespoke shirting and accessories.

Beautiful silks. WHY IS THE WEBSITE NOT WORKING? I want to order but can't.

Charvet is a wonderful place for sartorial enthusiasts and an absolute institution; sadly there are some things to be noted regarded the service and pricing. - The service was fine, but nothing special. The staff seemed disinterested at times, there was a lack of enthusiasm. - The pricing is very high, even in comparison to other shirtmaker that are located in London; that being said, the minimum order of shirts here is one, opposing to the usual four or five at other shirtmaker. That being said, the store is a sartorial Valhalla, and they truly have everything to outfit every gentleman. The staff, even though not extremely enthusiastic were very nice and accommodating. Most of the products are made in France, Charvet is family owned and has been on the Place Vendôme since its inception, and thus is truly a worthy visit for enthusiasts.

…I am in the industry; so visiting this institution is a must. The incredible/patient/kind staff was so lovely to our group. Don’t be intimidated. Go in buy something & be a part of the best….

Charvet is a sleeping beauty that is waiting to be acquired by a large luxury holding. Why? Their client experience is appalling. No proper welcome. Store furniture, carpets and appliances completely run down. Try-on shirts smelly, oily collars and dirty. Shirts come in plastic bags and are wrapped in plastic shopping bags. Payment process 1980s style with an unrelated employee sitting behind a counter. No story telling. No introduction to fabrics, craftsmanship, fittings, collars. A shirt would offer a million stories to tell. The whole experience is lacking charm, warm-heartedness and passion. It is not even transactional. Needless to say it isn’t relational either. No personal questions asked. Colors and patterns very much on the classic side. They lack adaption and modernization. 450 Euro for an upscale prêt-à-porter shirt is fine but it needs to come with a story and an experience. This is not (anymore) given at Charvet. Buy your shirts at the Italians: Barba Napoli, Mazzarelli, Luigi Borrelli Napoli, Vincenzo di Ruggiero.

Possibly the best place for ties in the world. Literally thousands on display in the ground floor and they last a long time. Their shirts are nice with a great range if cloths, but not cheap even when compared to the best bespoke makers.

I first visited when I was a poor university student, curious about the legendary Charvet, but unable to afford even a necktie. Despite this, I was treated exceptionally well and given a tour of the store. They've made a customer for life.

Top place to find shirts, ties, accessories for men. Of course, if you are a true parisian dandy don't forget to ask for their bespoke services.

Yelp
I love this store, I was going to write a review but I would have to echo everything Michael from Illinois said, I feel exactly the same way, seems intimidating but once you let them know how they can help you, they are super helpful and yes, among the least snobby in Paris. We have gone in there to have my husband's shirts custom made and also just to buy a pocket square, and they are equally helpful and oohlala those shirts are out of this world beautiful, my husband loves it because when he is wearing a Charvet shirt, I cannot keep my hands off of him, :-)

Yelp
Incredibly polite and attentive staff. I told them from the get-go that I was only browsing but they still treated me like their most important customer. Exceptional service, exceptional price. Will definitely go back for a pair of pajamas and oxford shirt if my income ever allows it.

Yelp
Charvet is the pinnacle of bespoke shirtmaking. One of the oldest bespoke shirt houses still around today with all patterns drafted by hand on paper. I have had a lot of custom shirts made, but none have come as close to perfection as mine from Charvet. They are incredibly expensive -- almost $800 each -- but they are also perfect, for which you always pay a premium. You need to be in Paris at least three times to develop a pattern. Once to have your measurements taken; a second time for a fitting; and a third time to have them inspect your completed shirt and make adjustments.

Yelp
There are no finer shirts in the world than those made by Charvet. And even though the establishment, across from the Ritz and surrounded by some of the finest jewelers in the world can appear intimidating, the staff are among the least snobby in the fashion industry. They said to me once, when I commented how intimidating it was to walk in the door for the first time, "we're just people serving other people." And they happen to make most perfect white shirt in the world. They are service oriented, charming, and it is a spiritual experience to buy shirts and ties from them.
