The Chastain Arts Center is City of Atlanta's oldest arts center offering arts classes since 1968 in various mediums: painting, drawing, printmaking, jewelry, framing, ceramics, and more for adults. We also offer youth summer camp, teen workshops, and year-round children's programming. As well as host exhibitions in the Chastain Gallery, children's birthday parties, and special event rentals. Chastain has undergone various improvements throughout the center from the Inform Women, Transform Lives mural created by Sarah Neuburger, additional paved parking, and becoming ADA compliant.
"The Chastain Gallery is a small, quiet showroom on the north side of the park near the Galloway School. It shares the lot with the Arts Center, but in a separate wing of the building. Push through the door marked “City Gallery” and, depending on when you visit, you’re likely to find yourself alone in a room with just you and the art. When I visited, Sarah Hobbs and Susie Winton’s show was on display (and, therefore, is in the photograph). It’s an intimate experience with local artists and worth the visit." - Russell Shaw Design
"One long hallway runs the full length of this old space with doors opening to sunny studio rooms all along its walls. When I first toured I thought, “What is this place? Can I work here?” The Arts Center has a pretty great course listing every season (and, I might add, some of the most affordable adult learning art classes that I have seen in the city; it’s run by the Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs). So if you’re wanting to get awkward with other locals in a nude figure drawing class, this would be a picturesque location and cost-efficient way to do so." - Russell Shaw Design
