If you take the train to 新左營車站 (Xinzuoying Station) you can hop on a bus that'll take you to the resort. However, there's only one shuttle per day so call the resort to make sure that the times are going to match when your train arrives. It's not a free shuttle bus, but it's a lot cheaper than hiring a car.
We stayed in a pretty basic room. The room was actually really small which didn't allow for much luggage storage. The shower also has a full glass view into the room. Hopefully you're friendly with your roommates -- which is weird because a lot of schools in Taipei run trips here. Hijinks, I'm sure, have ensued.
Breakfast was included in our stay. There are two main dining rooms, but they serve the same food in both during breakfast. I prefer the view from upstairs, but it's not as spacious. I feel like the quality of food was pretty average, but it totally hit the spot for what I was craving at the time.
There's a bunch of activities at the resort, but it's very seasonally dependent. If it's not high season, then the only options are the rec room in the basement, and the few pools. But the thing about this place is its easy access to "downtown". In the evenings, the night market is a really easy stroll away. There are plenty of resorts in the night market strip, but then you'd have to deal with the nuisance of the crowds. This place is just far enough away that's not an issue.
The wifi situation here is weird. Every room has their own SSID, but the resort has a different SSID. You can get half decent coverage if you switch to the resort one and you stay indoors. But it doesn't extend out very far beyond that.
