Well-located on the Beujolais Wine Route a little outside Villie-Morgon, this chateau-hotel/B&B provides a convenient and comfortable base from which to explore the region or as an enroute overnighter. The charm and character of stately nineteenth century lodgings are often accompanied by some privation but much of thet is absent here. |The good: the property is easy to find on Google or Apple Maps and parking within the walled chateau is right at the front door. Our English-fluent host, David, was welcoming and helpful throughout or stay. Our ‘Princesse’ room was clean, bright, spacious, comfortable and quiet. The décor and furnishings are appropriately faux-period while still relaxed. Most things expected were there and they all worked as expected; a solid three stars here. There are ample power outlets around the suite. The king bed was comfortable, the bedlinens crisp and clean and we were each able to find a suitable pillow. The bathroom is modern, spacious and well-appointed with a robust supply of hot water. The included breakfast was a liberal spread of local staples with eggs to order. |The not so good: nothing serious here but visiting and getting around this region almost necessitates your own vehicle so be prepared for considerable difficulty if relying upon public transport. Creaky floors are a standard feature of period buildings, and this one is no exception so nocturnal visits to the bathroom won’t be kept secret. The bathroom lighting is fine for most purposes but not so for shaving or, I assume, making up. While on the bathroom; the half-screen shower/bath arrangement requires some care to avoid saturating the bathroom floor and the bath linens were a star sort of expectations. The included Wifi connected easily but the speed was very patchy.
