America’s Most Beautiful Vineyards for Harvest Season

Google
We did a trip to Traverse City for a birthday and found Chateau Chantal based on the ratings and overall reviews for the birthday dinner. We had an amazing experience with the tour and wine pairing meal. The tour guide and host for the dinner was Bill, and he has worked for the winery for over 20 years! He, and the whole staff, were very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. The meal was top notch as well. The chef prepared 6 courses with a wine pairing for each. From one course to the next we kept saying how great each dish was and the wine pairings were perfect compliments. The overall atmosphere and views from the winery were absolutely amazing as well! If you are in Traverse City, MI, and want a great experience I would recommend booking this tour and meal experience!

This winery was one of a handful I visited on a trip from Ohio. It was a pleasant midweek August evening with a moderate crowd. My wine experience is moderate to advanced, so I selected a wine flight. The pours were substantial enough that I was able to determine if bottles were coming home with me; not all Michigan wineries had such a privilege. I brought home the 2021 Malbec Tango, and the 2022 Proprietor's Trio. Fantastic!

We loved our stay at Chateau Chantal! It started with a great greeting at the winery before it closed as we tried some wines. We then stayed in the Behrens Master on the first floor and it was a very nice room. Comfortable and we walked right out our door to go for walks and sip wine as we ate dinner at night. The area around there is gorgeous and you can see both sides of the water on the peninsula. We also enjoyed our breakfast in the morning.|Everyone working there was so kind and made you feel relaxed during your stay. Definitely recommend to stay here or at least for stopping into the winery for a short visit. We loved it!

Three couples - - in-laws - - stayed in Renoir, Cezanne and School Master Suites. Accommodations were excellent. Arranged for a private wine tasting upon arrival - would recommend. Breakfasts were delicious. Entire staff was pleasant, helpful and engaging. (Charming) owner provided tour of the onsite wine processing. Surrrounding area was beautiful.

Google
The view here is absolutely stunning and probably the highlight of the visit. Unfortunately, the overall experience felt too commercialized, with more emphasis on the sales side than on creating a genuine wine experience. The wines were fine but fairly standard, nothing that really stood out. If you’re coming for the scenery, it’s definitely worth a stop, but if you’re looking for something more authentic or intimate, this may not be the place.

Google
Great setting, wine decent food not good at all we got a flight of red a flight of white and a "local bread". The wines were okay, nothing special and the bread came out still frozen in the middle. All in all for over $50 with a tip average at best.

We have traveled really far away from Singapore back Michigan to revisit. This time we choose to stay with Chateau Chantal. It’s so pleasure experience that the room is well designed, all staff are very friendly, breakfast is very delicious. AND, there is beautiful sunset here at the top of chateau. What a wonderful holiday, we love it. At the last but not least, we are amazed by Mr Bob’s incredible introduction of winery’s history. We wish him and the family all the best. Many thanks.

Google
What a wonderful experience at Chateau Chantal! First of all, the views are epic. From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. Our host and server, Bill, was absolutely fantastic — a great storyteller who made the winery tour both entertaining and educational. His knowledge and passion for the winery truly enhanced the entire experience. The food was outstanding, and the staff was incredibly accommodating with food allergies, which made the evening even more enjoyable. To top it all off, we had the special treat of meeting the owner, who shared an incredible personal story that added such a meaningful touch to the visit. A truly memorable experience — highly recommend!

Yelp
Come here for the atmosphere - the views of the water and lush vines were incredible. It was so much fun just sitting outside on their patio, taking in the sights, and sipping on some wine. You walk in & they take your order at the bar inside, then you can take your drinks outside. There are two patios - one faces the water, the other faces more of the vines - both are gorgeous. 3 for $15 is such a good deal. The pours are also pretty generous :) Will be back!!

Yelp
very good "nice white" - Also, the bubbly cherry is good but it has cinnamon and nutmeg notes, so if you don't like that, you won't like. They have a few snacks and a VERY limited menu. The view is gorgeous from the from room (see pic) People were nice Ambiance is good! Would come back

Yelp
First of all, this place is STUNNING! Such great views and beautiful rolling hills and the Traverse Bay beyond. Come here even just for the views :) My parents and I pulled up on a sunny Friday and walked into the place and made a left to the tasting room. We waiting for around 5 min for a person to serve us and she was very nice. We each got a sample flight of 3 wines for $15. Kinda expensive but I think it's reasonable for the area. We took our flights and went outside to enjoy the view and drink. I have to say, we did not love the wines haha. There wasn't any difference I tasted from a house wine at a restaurant to their wines. They just did not have a good body to them , at least the reds . My mom said the ciders were good. I didn't try any of the whites but maybe they were better? I don't know if I would come back for the wine . But I would come back for the view:)

Yelp
We enjoyed our short visit to Chateau Chantal Winery. We only stayed for one glass of wine, but surely would return to spend a little more time. Not much in terms of food from what I recall, but the wine was good. It was a gorgeous drive to get there, with lots of roadside farm stands along the way (seasonal I'm sure). The views from the winery were spectacular! Lots of photo opportunities and outdoor space. Many other wineries in the area so you could surely make an afternoon of it.

Yelp
This was giving Italy, Spain, anything but US vibes! Lol This vineyard is such a gem! Def a fave on the crawl!
google avatar

Isheka O.

Yelp
I had the most amazing time with friends at the winery at Chateau Chantal. The ambiance and property overall was wonderful. There are also other options if you are not big on drinking wine.
google avatar

Yelp
This review is for the wine dinner. The experience was exceptional. The dinner was held in a beautiful, spacious room with extensive windows facing both east and west with gorgeous views of the lake and bay. The open air chef kitchen area was a treat to watch the masters prepare our meals while we were expertly informed of the wines, vineyard, and pairing tricks when serving food at home. The meal itself was delicious - 5 hearty courses with delicious pairings to compliment the flavors. Any wines that we particularly enjoyed were available for purchase in the store after dinner as well as coffee to go. Loved the entire experience!

Yelp
It was running this particular Saturday that we were working on the peninsula. This is a very busy place with at least one wedding today and tons of tourist. I don't did the staff move the wedding party inside they also moved all of us regular guests inside and we were actually in the basement One of my favorite places on the peninsula, and this particular trip was extra special A must stop if you're on the peninsula !
google avatar

Cecily W.

Yelp
A very nice place with great views! it's on the top of a hill. You can see the water from both sides of the building. I didn't realize the Old Mission Peninsula was so narrow until I arrived. Sitting outside and enjoying the sunset makes everything feel much better. When we first arrived, there was a long line. It may take some time before you can order anything. But the stunning view won't make you mad about anything.
google avatar

Mémé H.

Yelp
The winery has a beautiful view so was well worth the stop. View off deck includes lake in distance, while vineyards and farms dot the other side. It was quite congested during our visit and we found it difficult to find a seat as a full bus tour had just arrived. Wine bar staff was extremely busy so no time for helping with selections. Large selection of wines for tastings. We enjoyed the wines we chose. Gift shop at entrance has many wine themed items--wine purses, clothing, towels, etc. Worth a trip back.
google avatar

Jenna C.

Yelp
Definitely worth a quick stop, just for the views - you can see both sides of the peninsula from up on Chateau Chantal's perch. Unfortunately I cannot comment much on the wine since I'm currently abstaining from alcohol but I was very pleasantly surprised to find they had a non-alcoholic white wine option. In addition, I saw they had some spindrift on hand, so bonus points for inclusivity. My mom got a tasting flight and really liked 2/3 of the ones she tried. We were able to find seats outside on a beautiful summer day, however finding a table with an umbrella to shield the sun was hard to come by and everyone was competing for them. The only other downfall at this establishment was the service - my mom is hearing impaired and the man who helped us with our tasting was snippy and clearly annoyed when asked for repeat information. Not enough to ruin the experience but something that hopefully improves.
google avatar

Brenna V.

Yelp
Good variety of Michigan wines, beautiful area outside to admire the view and enjoy your tastings.
google avatar

Jacob S.

Yelp
A nice winery with decent views. This one had a more commercialized feel to it. It's tough to explain, but instead of warm and welcoming, it felt like a supermarket; get in, get your stuff and get out. Service was good, wine was good. It just didn't make me feel like I wanted to stay and sip a glass for a bit.
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
This is a pretty cool winery. Great views on their outside patio. Nice... still uses stemware for their tastings. You pick your wines to taste from a list then they send you outside or wherever you wish. Walked out of a few choice selections. We will be back.
google avatar

Billy L.

Yelp
Very charming and first class operation. The service was excellent including suggestions on which tasting options to select. This place was very busy and there was a couple sitting at the table next to us that were making arrangements to have their wedding at this place. Very beautiful setting and classy. I'm sure it is an amazing backdrop for a wedding.

Yelp
If nothing else, come for the views - just spectacular! I enjoyed a trio of wine tasting. It is served in a handy metal basket that you can easily carry outside. They also mark on the glass the name of the wine so you can keep track. I liked 2 out of the 3 wines and ended up buying 2 bottles when we left. There are 2 different outdoor sitting areas. My only recommendation would be to add more table umbrellas for these hot summer days. We snagged a table with an umbrella as soon as we saw them getting up to leave. A fella walking by jokingly offered me $50 for our shaded umbrella table Beautiful building with great views. Perfect setting to enjoy a glass of wine but also some non alcoholic choices too.
google avatar

Bill M.

Yelp
Amazing property! The views are spectacular. Be sure to get in line and wait for the bar. Staff at the bar was very knowledgeable and offered recommendations based on your tastes Wines were pretty good.

Yelp
Our favorite vineyard and winery on Old Mission peninsula! Absolutely stunning views of both the west and east Grand Traverse Bays. We arrived somewhat early, the weekend after Labor Day, so we got in quickly. We started with the tastings, they have an impressive selection of everything from dry red and whites to sweet wines and ciders. Husband and I have completely different tastes in wine and we both found wines we enjoyed. The views from Chateau Chantel had the best views on the peninsula! I would suggest the Chardonnay Reserve and the Pinot Noir Reserve.

Yelp
Wow- what else can I say?! The grounds are breathtaking and their vast selections of wine are amazing. They even have a 0% alcohol wine, they said the alcohol was removed, which was really delicious! Every single staff member was incredibly nice and welcoming. They have so many seating options outdoors, all of which have the best scenery I have ever experienced. We went during the peak of the fall colors this year, and no picture can do it justice. It got extremely busy while we were there, with a line FAR out the door. This did not ever change the kindness and calmness of the very knowledgeable and inviting staff. My family and I all had such a great experience here and would love to come back. We left with 18 bottles of wine, too! It was all so good we just had to bring some back to share with family as the holidays approach. There was also a free tour that they offered while we were there so we joined and it was AWESOME! I highly recommend. The tour was lead by none other than Marie-Chantal- the CEO and daughter (also the namesake) of the founders. She was extremely informative, so so so kind and welcoming. We had a great time learning all about the history of Chateau Chantal, as well as their wine-making process. Immediately after the tour, I saw her jump right into bussing tables- which to me was just awesome to see that EVERYBODY was working together at all levels to make the guest experience as seamless as possible, despite such a heavy crowd. I can't recommend Chateau Chantal enough!

Yelp
This winery has such a great location and the views from their outdoor patio are stunning. We had reservations and prepaid for a tasting of three wines, with the option to alternatively get one full size wine or seasonal drink. This made it easy to walk right in and get started. Everyone in the party got to select their wines for the tasting and the staff will write on your glass to identify each one. This was helpful because at some other wineries you won't know which one you're drinking. The staff wasn't very friendly but it seems they're focused on moving as quickly as possible. The store inside has an wide selection of home goods, wines, art, and merch. Definitely one of the bigger shops from the wineries we visited in the area.

Ryan B.

Yelp
Not a wine fan, still one of the best places ever! Their summer/fall dinners are a must!!

Annette C.

Yelp
First time here. Views were awesome. Line was long but went surprisingly fast. We decided to have an old fashioned and the lavender lemonade, both were good. I'd like to come here again and try the wine.
google avatar

Debra H.

Yelp
Beautiful place to stop. Wines so-so. Our wine host talked a lot! Not about the wines!
google avatar

Joyce T.

Yelp
Nice wine tasting and great cheese plate-with terrific views! Friendly staff and wide variety of wine.

Ann R.

Yelp
The is a beautiful place to take in the gorgeous views from the Old Mission Peninsula. The wines, we tasted the Chard, Naughty white and Pinot noir. Chard was the beast and it doesn't compare to Russian River Cali whites. I'd take a pass on the wine...take pictures.

Dennise D.

Yelp
Just ok. Increased prices and you receive less food and drink. Flight is only 2 oz pour when they used to be a half glass. 6 oz for $15 not worth it.
google avatar

Raji V.

Yelp
Great wine tasting. Great selection of wine and the view is stunning. They also have occasional live performances. Also...who knew popcorn paired well with wine?!
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
The outdoor space, views and wine were all spectacular, which would surely bring us back again. The area is pet friendly which is what helped make our decision when passing through the TC area on when to stop. They have a clean, organized indoor space, tasting room and store. The only thing that kept my review from being a 5 star was the older gentleman who was pouring the wine order for us was rushing us along (there was no line behind us) -- they have a large selection and I'm not partial to whites over reds or vice versa (as long as they're not sweet) so had some questions and asked for opinions, he seemed annoyed and just preferred I pick without small talk. Maybe he was having an off day, which is ok for every one of course -- it just hindered my excited to be there mood some. Another younger woman came by and must have noticed his demeanor and was quick to chime in and be helpful offering opinions and feedback, she was quite lovely and friendly as well. Again, we would return.. Everyone has an off day and I can appreciate that. The wine, atmosphere, nice lady who jumped in and vineyards were worth a second visit.
google avatar

Karlee B.

Yelp
Came here for a bachelorette party and it was a great spot. We got here right after open and it was already picking up pretty quickly on a Saturday. We went in small groups to the bartender who would ask what wines we like to make recommendations. They were all very friendly and helpful. Once you get your pour, you pick your seat and there's a beautiful view of the lake.
google avatar

Maxwell L.

Yelp
Honestly, the views alone were worth it in itself! Some of the wines were a hit or miss (the cherry wine absolutely tasted like cough medicine) but the wine float is such a great way to sample the regional flavor and make great conversation! I also liked that unlike some of the other vineyards, this one was not nearly as packed and crazy, making for an amazingly peaceful outing. The sommelier was also super great and tried to guide us on some of the different selections they had. Overall, a great summer detour if you're around Traverse City.
google avatar

Shawn S.

Yelp
3 stars for the wine I selected. I'm on the dry side for tastings but I could view the vineyard for hours. What a spectacular sight! Even with a deck full of guests I was not distracted. Give it a go just for relaxation.
google avatar

Aparna B.

Yelp
Beautiful property. The views here are at stunning!! I see why people use it for things like proposals and weddings. I wish I could say the same about their wine but a lot of their wines weren't very chilled so they tasted kind of sour and left a bad taste. I'll def be back though!
google avatar

Jared H.

Yelp
The views at Chateau Chantal are by far the best on Old Mission. The wine was okay, nothing spectacular, but enjoyable. Everyone was very kind as well, super helpful and knowledgeable.

Chris M.

Yelp
Wine Dinners, Cooking Classes, Tasting Room, and an amazing Bed and Breakfast. The breakfast was hearty and obviously well prepared. The Cherrywood smoked Bacon was a highlight, as were the local poached eggs with Hatch green chilies. Iconic views of East and West Grand Traverse Bay. The Break The Rules Dinner was amazing with 7 courses, wine with all courses, plus a killer Champagne cocktail with cotton candy, all food and including tax, and tip came to $150! Amazing value for the experience

Lindsey H.

Yelp
My daughter and I visited this beautiful winery while on a girls trip and were very impressed! Working in the wine industry myself I was recommended this place and it did not disappoint! The wines were spectacular and Tracy was a great knowledgeable server.. we did a flight and followed up with a glass on the beautiful patio with breathtaking views. When it came time to browse and shop Grace was so helpful and what a delight to chat with! I will definitely visit again on my next trip here! Thank you all for a great time!
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped in at this winery because it was a beautiful day, and the location is perfect. In fact, I have to say after tasting wine, the view is the best thing about the winery. We sat outside and tasted a flight of wines - $10 each, and they were OK but nothing made us want to purchase bottles.
google avatar

Frank B.

Yelp
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Chateau Chantal. Our room was fabulous, with a little balcony that we used for watching the sunset and for our dinner. The chateau is architecturally beautiful, and the grounds are extensive and very walkable. We got a tour of the winery. We also were permitted to enjoy the fireplace on the dining room and have wine in the tasting room. Breakfast was also delicious and very filling, with a nice introduction to the owner and staff.

Yelp
Chateau Chantal was on our advanced list of places to visit as it was mentioned in a number of books and articles that we had read. The location of this winery is the top selling point. Located back off the road you drive through the vineyards to make it back to the winery, inn, and tasting room. The winery is located on top of the hill with views of the bay on both sides. It is one of the best settings ever to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. So let's talk about the three stars. First off, this place is designed to crank people through their tasting area. When you walk in the door you have to stop and purchase your ticket before you even walk into the tasting room. The tasting is $10 for a three-wine tasting, or you can get a single glass of wine for the same amount. Then you stand in a queue with your ticket in hand to go to a tasting station. We had a nice young man working at the winery while attending the maritime college in Traverse City. He was helpful and set us up with our three tasters in a cool wine caddy so you can take your wines outside. I would definitely stick to the roses and whites here. Our favorite was the sparkling rose, and we purchased a bottle for a friend who we would be visiting later on the trip. The reds on the other hand were underwhelming. They were not very deep in their flavors and just were not something that I would choose to drink regularly. Then the staff starts throwing away box after box of wine bottles into a dumpster directly below where we were sitting. Do you know that sound of crashing glass that just makes you cringe? Do that over and over again and the setting is ruined. I wish we had been able to visit other wineries in the area to have more of a comparison, but this was not exactly what I was hoping for. Wine Quality: Service: View/Location: Tasting Room: Food Pair: NA Vibe/Ambiance:

Yelp
SERVICE: 3 FOOD QUALITY: N/A DRINK QUALITY: 4 ORDER TIME: 3 AESTHETICS: 5 NOISE LEVEL: 5 MENU SELECTION: 5 OVERALL EXPERIENCE: 4.17 This winery is a prepay wine tasting. You can make a reservation and prepay, or you can prepay when you get there and get in line and wait till someone is available. We arrived at 4:25 for our reservation at 4:30, but realized that reservations make no difference. We stood in the same line as the people who just walked in. Finally got waved in to the bar at 5 by the bartender who yells "NEXT". For people who had a reservation they had no menus but if you paid when you walked in they gave you a piece of paper with the menu. Considering how slow the line was moving I walked up to the counter to get a piece of paper with the wines on it, and the woman at the register refused to give me one. She said that I could wait till I got to the bar, and they would give me a menu there. From that point my experience was ruined. We sat in line, with a reservation, for 35 minutes. Walk-ins had menus, and I was refused one. Sadly, our first impression and experience was poor, and definitely not a reflection of what we experience in Traverse City when we often visit. After our horrendous first impression we finally got to the bar and were given menus. They have a very large menu so it took us some time to figure out what we wanted. After making our decision we went to the back patio, but realized that it was way too bright, and they had no shade. We relocated to the west end and the view was way better and there were available umbrellas. The wine was Traverse City quality, and we all enjoyed it. Overall, not quite what I was expecting for a winery in this area. The prepay was unique, and I've never experienced a winery who has done that. I was extremely disappointed when we stood in a line of walk ins when we had a reservation, and even more disappointed when I asked for a menu but was declined, and told to wait. Beautiful space and great tasting wine, but can't say I would recommend this winery over any other winery I've visited in the area due to the lack of customer service and experience. I didn't feel like a valued customer, but more like a commercialized, in and out, undervalued consumer. The service and experience make this winery a 4 star. If you just want wine, and a view, and willing to sacrifice everything else then this place will work.

Yelp
First stop for day 2 of wine tastings. Beautiful views and luckily they were able to get us in via walk-in. It seems they operated via both reservations and walk-ins. Staff inside was friendly and helpful. They serve you inside at the bar and then you can take your flight or glass to the beautiful, spacious patios with many seating areas very spaced out to enjoy the views. I got the flight which includedThe 3 proprietor's reserve reds: Pinot noir, trios, and cab franc. The Trio was my favorite of the 3!! Highly recommend, just based on the views but the wine was good too! Would definitely come back!

Tracey B.

Yelp
Go here... it's stunning! The vineyard is laid out beautifully and you have a peaceful view from any spot. We arrived on a motorcycle, after hours and Marie left excellent instructions and then came to welcome us. After a long day of riding, it was a nice surprise to see such a special place, the sunset was gorgeous, the guests were kind and from many different parts of the states. Our room, the Lebasque was recently renovated and had a nice peaceful vibe, decorated in soft blues, offered a nice high top on the balcony that overlooked the East side of the winery. The breakfast was incredible, the Chef and staff were engaged with the guests. I personally loved that after we were all served the Chef came out and shared with us what he made and how much he enjoyed preparing the meal for us. This Chef was so wonderful and made you feel like you were part of the family he was proud to serve a dish too. I also appreciated he shared the secret about the scones. :) I appreciated that the fruit did not include pineapple, sometimes a fruit medley includes pineapple and I am allergic to it so I don't get to enjoy the fruit most of the time.... Kudos! This was a wonderful experience and I will not forget it!

Yelp
A mansion-like place to drink wine at? Yes please! This place is the "cream of the crop". This was our final stop on our wine tour and in my opinion, this was the "best for last" type of trip. It was quite a drive up to this large place, going through their vineyards upon vineyards. When we arrived at the top, we were shown this mini-mansion with a large outdoor seating area and large indoor circular serving bar. They had some pretty great wines to choose from, friendly staff, and some pretty generous pours in our tasting glasses. We left with a couple bottles (of course). Attached in this review are some pretty stellar scenic pictures from this venue. We would definitely come back here just for the relaxing views while enjoying some tasty wine!
google avatar

Rachel E.

Yelp
First, the drive through the vineyard to get to their tasting room is spectacular. The building itself is gorgeous. The staff were so nice and personable, they also gave great recommendations when we didn't know what to try. We did the tasting and sat outside on the patio - which gave us an unbelievable view. The wine was amazing, and their naughty cherry cider was a MUST try. So happy we found this place! Definitely recommend if you are in the area.

Yelp
Traverse City is just disappointing us hard this trip. This was the second time we came here too and after walking around for 10 minutes being ignored I yelled out they lost a customer and they said oh, kept standing and we left. Glad to take a 5 hour trip up here with this being one of the main reasons we came to be completely ignored. Will not be back, will not be buying any more Chateau Chantal bottles anywhere again.

Yelp
I came here with 2 girlfriends on a wine trip weekend. This was our first stop on our main day of winery tours. The views from the deck where you are drinking (because of COVID-19) are breathtaking all of the tastings this summer were outside. You have to make a reservation and prepay before coming here because of the pandemic but don't let that stop you from coming. I went with the the drier white wine flight but switched out the naught red for the nice red. I'm not sure that this was allowed but the person that was helping us made that switch. The nice red was so good that I purchased a bottle to come home with it. We were not rushed in our tasting. I'm sure if we had sat too long, they might have said something but there were plenty of tables so maybe not. Their cherry wine was good but a bit sweet for me though my friends really liked it and they both purchased a bottle. I will have to come back sometime soon.

John E.

Yelp
This review is for the current wines. I visited in Sept of 23. I have stayed here and have had some really nice wines here ( the inn is fantastic). However, I am not sure what is going on in the winemaking or vineyard departments. I worked in a wine shop in the 80's, learned a lot. Lived outside of Napa/Sonoma for a time and have tasted at more wineries than I could ever recall. On my recent visit, the first time back in about 5 years, I was a bit shocked by how bad some of the wines were. The two Chards were better than expected (not a good climate for that grape so I don't expect that much), and the Pinot Grigio was very drinkable. Two of the reds we chose tasted like, and I quote from one in our party, "dirt". I tried it and it reminded me of being a kid, crashing my bike and getting a mouthful of dirt. I had to look this up. Turns out this can happen when a type of yeast is present during fermentation in too large a quantity. Can create a barnyard or moldy taste as well. The winery should have just dumped the entire lot but instead chose to foist it on people. At one point I took one of our samples back to the tasting counter and asked for a replacement. The attendant was very begrudging, and rude. She commented that I had drunk some of the wine. I briefly thought of announcing to the entire room that it tasted like "dirt" but manors prevailed. On the way out I stopped to taste the grapes to see what they are working with. I have tasted grapes in Napa by pulling over on the side of the road during harvest time (not legal - but I used to do it) and was initially shocked at how concentrated the flavors were. I did the same here trying to figure out why some of the wines were so bad, and I can only comment that the grapes I tasted were not good. Maybe the vines by the driveway are only for show? My advice is go for the view, but be careful about what wines you choose.

Yelp
My first time visit here at Chateau Chantal was on October 23, 2019. Also #1 wine stop of 4 on this day. My needed relax trip was to unwind(wine) with a Fall vacation starting north in Mackinaw City for two days, then cruising down three days throughout Traverse City traveling the "Wine Trail" roads. The Wine Trail road map given from any hotel, will help the drive through Old Mission Peninsula viewing hills of grape vines, trees of colorful leaves and feeling a cool breeze from stop to stop for Wine Tasting! Chateau Chantal is open year round and offers many things to experience from wine tasting, cooking lessons, summer jazz music, fall and winter toasting by outdoor firepits. When walking and exploring the outdoors here, are beautiful panoramic views of the vineyards and the East & West blue waters of the Traverse Bay. They also offer a Bread & Breakfast for lodging, with wine tours, a merchandise store and a warm atmosphere of the "Elegant Inn." Since it was a week day for my hour stop here, there was no waiting to step up to the bar and begin tasting. I chose the option of 5 wine samples for $7.00. (excludes Reserve wines) Rick was the bartender who chatted a few minutes by explaining his job, the wines made on the property and the wine check list form to complete for my tastings. My choices were: "Sweet" = 1.) Select Harvest Gewurztraminer 2018 which tasted sweet of rose petals, lychee, grapefruit and a hint of minerality according to Rick the bartender. 2.) Late Harvest Riesling 2017 = which had a wonderful scent and flavor of honey, peach and gala apple. He also commented that "no acidity" gave it backbone and structure. 3.) Nice White = A sweet spiced nose with ripe peach, lychee & a hint of clementine orange peel. The palate is polished with hints of grapefruit & ginger spice. * Note no sneezing with this taste for Me! :-) "Fruit Wine & Cider Choice" = 4.) Cherry Wine = A deep cherry made from 100% tart cherries from Northern Michigan the Cherry Capital! Oh YES my favorite and bought a bottle.. many bottles from this winery stop. I was given a coupon to use after the tasting. 5.) Naughty Cherry Cider = A fantastic blend of Michigan Golden Delicious apples, Gala Apples, & Cherries. It tasted exactly like maraschino cherries so it was my favorite Cider choice! This location offers: Wine Clubs, Cellar Tours, Wedding Retreats & Events, A delicious 7-course Wine Dinner, Reservations Required for Large Groups for Wine Tasting. Tasting Hours: Memorial to Labor Day = Mon- Sat. 11am-8pm, Sunday: 11am-6pm. Fall (Labor Day to 10/31)= Mon-Sat. 11am-7pm, Sunday: 11am-6pm. Off-Season (Nov. 1 to Memorial Day) = Daily 11am - 5pm. Prices are: Flight of 3 wine glasses= $ 10-12 Glass= $7-9 Flight & Charcuterie= Flight of 3 = $20 My shopping wine purchases (with a coupon) were naturally from my wine tasting choices.

Yelp
We enjoy coming back to this vineyard for the view and atmosphere. The wines are nice. Lots of bachelorette parties and seems to be a very popular vineyard.

Yelp
My friends and I arrived here Thursday evening to the Jazz at Sunset weekly event. We all truly enjoyed it. I LOVED IT! The jazz was beautiful and relaxing, the scenery was gorgeous, and the wine was fantastic. Our reserved high table was perfectly placed. It was a great atmosphere and I wish I lived closer to enjoy more often.
