Personally I thought the chateau here was VERY beautiful. The owner who I believe is the president of LVMH has outdone himself. In addition to the beauty, there's lots of technology at play during the production phase of each year, grapes are pressed and then gravity fed to their vats where they are then barreled and aged. They have some truly great wines on display but you need to have DEEP pockets to be able to afford them. Should be worth noting as well that a visit isn't free and will cost you.

Thank you so much for creating such wonderful wines 👏😍 I set up a five course dinner around a bottle of 1982 D’Estournel and invited my two best friends. It was really something else and I feel privileged to have been able to enjoy such a vintage. ❤️

An absolutely fabulous tour and tasting with fantastic detail in every aspect. Our guide Anaïs was excellent, personable and highly knowledgeable, and the afternoon took us round the fabulous cellar frontage with all its unique charm, the stars of the show that are the vines and surrounding plots, into the innovative winery, cavernous cellar with its iconic bottle library, and fabulously relaxing tasting area. The tasting itself was both horizontal and vertical and the array of years and wine styles made the tastes and their comparisons highly enjoyable, the best I have ever experienced, and highly recommended. If you’re thinking about going, don’t hesitate, you absolutely must!

Yelp
Chateau Cos d'Estournel has a long and distinguished history as a Bordeaux wine property in the St. Estèphe appellation that is as interesting as the estate's unique architecture. Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, gave his name to the estate after founding in 1811. The tour of the facility was the most impressive of six Chateaus in St. Estèphe. The barrel room was enormous and there was a glass walkway over the barrels. The walkway led to the library vault where bottles from the late 1800's were still being held. The woman providing the tour was gracious and informative. Since the chateau sells all their primary wines to brokerage firms as futures, there was only about a 10% holdback of any vintage. Therefore, no sales to the public. Ratings normally run between 92 and 95 for their primary label which sells for over $150/bottle. Yes, we were drinking those vintages. We were able to purchase the second label (Goulee) from 2012 for a pedestrian price. This is a must see chateau.
