"Château d’Audrieu For that to-the-manor-born feeling, you can’t get much better than Château d’Audrieu, an 18th-century residence-turned-hotel that’s listed as a historic monument. Located in the heart of the Calvados countryside between Caen and Bayeux, it’s the perfect place to live out your royal fantasies, whether you spend your time by the outdoor heated swimming pool, at the luxurious Sothys spa, or wandering the 62 acres of gardens, parks, and woodlands.Elegant rooms feature a pleasing mix of antiques, chic wallpaper, and plush carpeting, while the Luxury Tree House—a 753-square-foot suite perched above the hotel’s English gardens—offers an outdoor terrace with sweeping views. At the sophisticated Séran restaurant, guests can enjoy fresh produce from the hotel garden and more than 200 different wines in a stunning all-red dining room."

This Chateau is beautiful, serene and very relaxing! We really enjoyed staying here. Thank you to Sebastian, the concierge who makes sure EVERYTHING you need is received in a very timely manner. Another thanks to Leopold in the Bar Restaurant. So accommodating and friendly. The food was amazing and the service even better! Would highly recommend staying here when you visit Normandy. The best!

I’ve stayed here twice. The first time was during a group trip. The second I entered the property I knew I would return with my wife for our 20th wedding anniversary. We did, and could not have been more pleased. There’s something almost intangible about the place. There’s a familiarity about it that makes me feel at home across the globe. The beauty, history, and peacefulness is matchless. The staff is exemplary. We wish we could have stayed an entire month.

We had an amazing time at the Chateau d'Audrieu. In addition to the location and the building which are great, the team was very nice, the service outstanding and the food -both at the bar and at the restaurant - was absolutely stunning. We also had an incredible and unique experience in staying in the tree room, 15 metres above the ground in a beautiful wooden bedroom very comfortable. We did experience the unique feeling of having a shower or a drink or sleeping in the trees, among the birds! Truly a moving and amazing feeling. Thank you very much to the staff, we will certainly come back

Pictures of the lovely Chateau accurately describe it. What they don’t show is the fabulously warm and inviting staff who can’t do enough to assist guests. They are all exceptionally well trained and thoroughly professional. Likewise, the kitchen and bar staff and servings are outstanding. You won’t be disappointed staying at Chateau d’Audrieu.

We stayed at the Chateau for 5 nights in April. The building and grounds are beautiful along with the gardens . The rooms are well appointed, quiet and comfortable. Cleaning / fresh amenities and turn down services were a bit spotty. The included breakfast was fresh and plentiful with a great staff that was friendly and efficient.| Keep in mind that you will be at a distance from most attractions in the area, like Bayeaux, the WW2 historical sites including the Caen Museum. I would suggest pre arranged tours. If you need transportation, the staff will arrange for you but please follow-up as we had some issues when they " forgot" to call, almost missing our train.| Additionally, you may want to make dinner reservations in Caen or Bayeaux if you don't want to eat at either of the two restaurants at the Chateau. Le Saran ( their main restaurant) is very good but closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and they typically don't change the menu more than weekly. The alternative is their 1715 bar with more of casual menu. Both can be on the more expensive side.| There is some great history here and this inn has allot of potential but I think they need to upgrade the involvement and numbers of their staff .

The actual chateau is charming and our room was beautifully decorated. The dining rooms are nice, especially if you sit above and can look down out of the window. The restaurant staff were brilliant because the reservations had not taken note of our request for dinner tables and we arrived late, ( 20.45) , tired and were told we could not eat in the restaurant but have a club sandwich. However on going to the restaurant, the restaurant lady seated us upstairs and gave us a simple menu to choose from which was really very good and more than adequate. They turned a nearly bad evening to something special - thank you to them. Also, we had booked for two nights and on arrival were told it was only one night. Having only had a telephone conversation about this and given card number over the phone we had no proof - make sure they send you an email confirmation ! So my advice is that if you stay here, get everything double confirmed by email including the restaurant reservation. Otherwise, its a beautiful place to stay and despite my anger about that, I do recommend it highly.

Great place to relax for a weekend. The only downside is that the menu at the restaurant is the same every night so not ideal for longer stays. Highly recommended though!

The front desk people who greeted us (a woman and an Algerian man- I’m so sorry I cannot remember their names) were so wonderful, happy, friendly and welcoming. We were so tired after a long day travelling and they really made us feel at home. They helped us get a reservation in the restaurant which was booked. We did not plan ahead because we did not realize how far we were from any restaurants. We did not want to eat in any touristy places. The dinner and breakfast were really good. We only stayed one night but it was comfortable and pleasant. The staff all seems so happy to be there. This place has good positive energy.

Yelp
What a gem! Beautiful grounds kept by the same gardener since 1989. An impressive kitchen led by a young up-and-coming chef. And a remarkable history as depicted by the memorial across from the stunning 14th century cathedral half a kilometer away. Treat yourself!

Yelp
The review for Chateau D'Audrieu was a challenge to write. Challenging because when one reviews a 5-star hotel/lodging, there is a higher standard of expectation - which goes along with the higher cost of staying there. The question is, if the establishment claims proudly that it is "5 Star", then is it a fair expectation that the entire experience from start to finish be 5 Star? Having spent the past 2 weeks in Dublin and in France at only 5-star hotels, my answer to this question is yes. So that readers of my review and those considering staying at Chateau D'Adrieu as well as the management of Chateau D'Audrieu understand my rating, I'll separate out what I think are the great, good and bad elements of my experience. The Great: The property is simply beautiful. Beautiful grounds, beautiful building and it is very nice. The Reception and Concierge are excellent. I must take a moment to really compliment Tatiana M. who really enhanced our stay in the area with her excellent recommendations for dining. All of her recommendations were spot on and we had simply fabulous meals at the places she suggested. Tatiana, vous êtes exceptionnel et un atout pour Château D'Adrieu, certainement 5 étoiles. Merci encore! Le Séran, the restaurant with Chef Olivier Barbarin was fantastic - the food, the wine, the sommelier and the service were all 5-star. Excellent. The Good: Our room #30 was on the top floor and it is large. 2 big bathrooms, well appointed. A large sitting/dining area and a large bedroom with great views to the gardens. Beyond the space, the views and the area; I rate it simply good because it was not up to the level of the other 5-star properties we stayed at in Dublin and France. The Bad: Here is where, unfortunately, the crux of my rating for Chateau D'Adrieu lies. Where it was bad, it was really bad. If I could give it zero or minus 10 stars, I would in an effort to convey just how bad it was. The Bar - very pretty but the bartender was literally non-existent at 3:30-4:00 in the afternoon. When he did pop in after we sat for almost 30 minutes, he was inattentive and very distracted. We managed to order two drinks, an Aperol Spritz and a Ruby Port - which turned out to be a Tawny Port and not a Ruby Port. Once he delivered our drinks, he simply disappeared and as we were meeting friends in the bar (who were also staying at the Chateau D'Audrieu); when they appeared; he was again nowhere to be found. We ended up just leaving to go get ready for dinner at Le Séran - which again WAS wonderfully 5-star. The Breakfast Service. Oh la la, the breakfast service. This is where over two days, the stars and experience simply turned into the worst possible experience we've ever had in Europe, Asia and North America. On the first morning, we arrived for breakfast and were told it would be a 5 to10 minute wait. The dining room, was practically empty. There were two occupied tables across 2 dining rooms and the rest of the tables were simply dirty and uncleared of the previous diners' dishes. After almost 30 minutes, we were seated at our table. The table had been set with fresh dishes, but they were set onto a dirty tablecloth that was literally covered with food crumbs and breakfast stains and remains from the previous diners. Three of the four of us had to brush food crumbs off the seats before we sat down and then when we sat down, we really noticed that the table was covered with food crumbs and stains. Our friends, who are French, were aghast and appalled. It was a glaring contrast from the dinner the night before where everything was executed perfectly. The server could barely be bother to take our order and a simple breakfast of croissant, coffee, juice and yogurt took well over 90 minutes. The service took so long that one of us ended up missing/cancelling our scheduled massage. I told the reception staff that the breakfast service was rather poor as we left for the day and when I returned that afternoon, I was presented with a Chateau D'Adrieu towel and tin of black tea in apology - an odd gesture but I felt that the message of poor service was received. Apparently not, however, as the second day's breakfast service was even worse. I am not even kidding, unfortunately. The tablecloth was clean at least, but my dining partner was missing a plate - which we had to ask for twice. We also needed to ask for the basket of bread, which was on almost every other table as part of the set up. We kept it simple, just coffee and bread for me, 2 soft boiled eggs and coffee for my dining partner. I asked for hot milk with our coffee - it didn't arrive until 25 minutes and 2 requests for it later. The couple next to us had ordered pancakes and they didn't get any syrup with their pancakes. They asked three times in English for the syrup and I asked twice in French for the syrup. The requests were all politely acknowledged with a nod but the syrup never appeared. T

Yelp
We felt very lucky to have booked the Chateau at the last minute. We took the 3 for 2 nights offer, which was a very good deal. From the moment we arrived, the staff was very warm and helpful. The chateau interior was recently updated to a very high standard, and the grounds (including the secluded pool) are very beautiful. We had an excellent dining experience at the chateau. The the food and wine pairings were spot on. The waiter was a true professional. We would be happy to recommend that friends stay at the chateau when visiting Normandy. A welcome respite from the other local tourist trap hotels.

Yelp
As you arrive up the main drive, you feel like you are in a movie... Expansive manicured lawn leading up to the large mansion in the lush countryside of Northern France. It seems perfect. And for all intents and purposes this is a perfectly lovely hotel. The trouble is, it is luxury brand hotel, and so, you expect more. While the chateau itself was elegant, it is in need of updating. The rooms were charming but a bit worn, with TVs in awkward spaces of the room and bathrooms needing some modernizing. The 'Art Deco Suite' was named more for the mosaic bathroom then the decor of the 2 bedroom suite which looked an awful lot like a dorm. The regular rooms had cheerier decor with yellow and blue wall fabric but still a bit worn in. The public spaces also were also a bit hit or miss. The bar/sitting room looked like it was thrown together with left over furniture from a college recreation area. While the dining room is formal and opulent and really the jewel of the whole place. The food and service here were outstanding, and if you are not staying at the chateau, you should really splurge on a dinner here. As far as service goes, well again, while it was fine, it was lacking a bit when you consider it is a luxury hotel. Everyone was easy going and pleasant, but not necessarily knowledgeable. Like when we asked for a couple of cars to pick us up at the train station, we were told to just wait for cabs. (Which by the way, being a Sunday morning turned into a 35 minute wait and we were 3rd in line.) Or when we asked for suggestions as to sights we were given tourist fliers or told to ask our cab drivers for recommendations instead of the concierge on duty giving us any guidance. One concierge said she couldn't help because she was not from the area. So again, given what you are paying you should at least be able to expect local insight. All that said, I would go back and stay there. It was an overall pleasant experience. Just be warned that the place could use a bit or work, and if you are expecting the same level of service that you would get in other Relais & Chateaux, while it is not bad, it is lacking in comparison.
