Domaine de Barive (Grand Est, France) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"An 18th-century castle in the Champagne region is a promising beginning for a luxury-hotel proposition; the Domaine de Barive, with its expansive gardens and grounds and its imposing and elegant stone structures, is more than capable of making good on this promise. With a mere 21 rooms and suites it’s rather on the intimate side as lodgings go — but, as is typical of château hotels, there’s rather more to it than just the bedrooms." - Tablet Hotels

A truly wonderful stay at this amazing resort.|It's in the middle of nowhere, so it's extremely peaceful, despite being next to a working farm.|Plenty of parking, including electric car charging points too, which was nice to see.|From the moment you enter the beautiful courtyard, you can see how well maintained the property is, and how the staff care.|Everyone spoke a little English, so we were able to communicate well enough.|We were upgraded to a Lux room, which was well appointed with a swing chair in the room which was a nice surprise.||Breakfast was a continental variety. During one morning we had to place an order for what we wanted, but for the other days, it was buffet style which we preferred. High quality produce, which included champagne, because why not!||Dinner was excellent. On a Monday the restaurant is closed, but there's still plenty of choice from the room service menu.||The restaurant itself is highly regarded, and I have to say the quality, appearance and taste of the food was excellent. There's a huge wine menu, but the wines by the glass, and champagne, were great too.||A point to note, if eating in the garden on the decking at night, make sure you use insect repellent as we were bitten a few times. A small price to pay for a wonderful dinner.|All staff we encountered were friendly and professional, which we were very pleased to experience.||The spa facilities were great. We used the pool, sauna, hot tubs and massage. We were the only people throughout most of our time, so it felt like a private facility for us. The massages were reasonably priced (given the location) and were ok. If you want a deep tissue massage, this probably isn't for you, but perfectly fine for a relaxing massage.||There are local cycling routes which they can provide, and you can borrow their bikes. They are ok but definitely need a bit of tlc and maintenance.||We drove to the local town (10 mins) for a chemist, pizza restaurant and local shop. Laon is a 30 mins drive (recommended) and Reims 60 mins. The location is therefore great. In the peaceful countryside, but close enough to local attractions.||In summary, and enjoyable stay. High quality, great food and lots of facilities to enjoy, whilst being close enough to local attractions. We will be returning!

The hotel is in a lovely location and had great character. It has a lovely indoor pool, but tricky working out how to turn the sauna on! Rooms nice and staff friendly but overall it lacked finesse. Poor by the glass wine list too. Also our dog was attacked by the owners great dame- who then continued to roam freely in the dinning area. Apparently the great dame doesn’t like small dogs! Would have been good to know before we booked.

⸻ 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 We had a fantastic experience from the moment we arrived! The welcome service was warm and professional, and we immediately felt relaxed and well taken care of. The staff were exceptionally friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring, which made our stay even more enjoyable. The gastronomic restaurant was a real highlight. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented — a true culinary experience. A special mention to the sommelier, who was absolutely excellent — knowledgeable, passionate, and gave perfect wine pairings that elevated the entire meal. The spa and massage services were top-notch — calm, clean, and incredibly relaxing. We left feeling refreshed and recharged. Overall, this place exceeded all expectations. Outstanding service, amazing food and wine, and a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere. We would love to return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable and high-quality stay.

A wonderful relaxing hotel situated in quiet countryside outside Reims. We stayed in a comfortable well-maintained suite with a discretely shared garden (garden furniture cleaning schedule could be improved). Lovely restaurant set on a terrace overlooking the extensive gardens. Fine menu, extensive wine list and friendly professional service.

What a beautiful hotel in a wonderful setting. Our room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and the staff throughout the hotel were friendly and helpful. A great place and one that I would recommend without hesitation. Thank you.

The hotel is in a domaine with a great view, the rooms are clean and the suite was big. The welcome was not very warm because they were busy with lunch. The prices in the restaurant are much too high for the quality and the quality of the food is even below average and also over-priced. The kitchen has a problem with the cuison of the food.

We had a wonderful stay at the Chateau on our way to Switzerland, we were met by wonderful staff and the entire place is beautifully decorated and has it's own unique style. We went on a cold rainy day and we were absolutely thrilled to be upgraded into a stunning suite with a beautiful fireplace and we made the most of the spa , I especially loved the chance to sit outside in the hot tub and appreciate the fresh air.|Although the main restaurant was closed they still offered a superb menu and excellent wine. The breakfast was unforgettable as is their own champagne, our only regret was having to leave after one night however we hope to return on our next trip to France

A stop on the way to the Uk and the way back. It's a 30 minute detour from the motorway but well worth the stop. Excellent stay, rooms are beautiful, the garden that backs on to some of the rooms was a bonus for our little dog, we have stayed quite a few times now and he thinks he owns the place!! The restaurant is exceptional and the staff Top, would highly recommend a stay here.
