5 Best Day Trips from Paris | Condé Nast Traveler

"With 115 hectares (285 acres) of land surrounding a Château in three different landscape styles—a French-style garden created by André Le Nôtre in the 17th century, an Anglo-Chinese Garden created in the 18th century, and the English Garden in the 19th century—you might say this is grand in design and scale. It's definitely on the manicured side of the continuum, but suitable for long walks. The French style garden offers incredible views, thanks to mirrored waters that produce reflections of the sky, fountains, and surrounding statues." - Mary Winston Nicklin, Lindsey Tramuta

Fairy tales do come true. I was invited to a wedding here. Unbelievably gorgeous grounds. Seeing a castle that is 500+ years old was just the beginning. Our group was able to see inside and experience the stellar staff and service. Worth the trip!

Beautiful chateau with plenty of art and sculptures. Awesome architectural detail inside and out. Gardens and grounds were very simple but nice. Not too crowded inside, which was nice as you could wander about without disturbing anyone. I would definitely recommend Chantilly over Versailles. You can also tour the stable and see about 15 or so race horses and the track outside. Approximately a 20-minute walk to the train.

It’s perfect for a day trip from Paris. The walk from the train station to the chateau is lovely. Everyone recommended the bus but honestly it’s a lot more relaxing walking there as you pass through a little forest. Go for the horse show, it’s amazing but the only downside was it was only in French. Book the tickets online!

A unique, intimate feel to this chateau. Only about 30 minutes easy drive north of Charles de Gaulle airport in France. Additionally, the Great Stables on the grounds has an excellent museum re the horse.

One of the most beautiful château’s in France. This is a must to visit and there were so many people here on a Sunday! absolute fantastic! The entire visit and its surrounding (including the horse dome and taking scenic pictures/videos) took about 2.5 - 3 hrs so I would say come early (at the latest maybe 1300/1400 during the winter time) to see all. For BF1 Fans - Ballroom Blitz :)

Very charming medieval castle. I just noticed some general lack of care with the gardens, which is a lame because the place itself is fantastic and full is history.

A picture perfect chateau that you can tour and not be overwhelmed by its size. Chateau de Chantilly is the Musée de Orsay compared to Versailles, which is like the Louvre. It has all of the opulence you expect. My favorite spaces were the library and the chapel. The grounds are expansive so wear your walking shoes!

Nice place worth to visit. Beautiful park. Inside of the castle - mainly art gallery.

Yelp
Uggghhh...had an awful time getting to this place due to traffic. Apparently someone found a giant unexploded bomb in the subway on the same day we decided to go that caused a bunch of surface roads heading north to be blocked as well. What a nightmare! Anyways finally, FINALLY made it to this super cool castle. Yes I'm calling it a castle because it has a moat. And no chateaus are not supposed to have castles. But it's TOTALLY NORMAL for castles. Definitely a must visit place to visit. The Chateau (Castle) De Chantilly consist of the castle itself, large servants building, massive beautiful grounds, a gigantic palatial horse stable with race track. Compared to the Palais de Versailles I think that Chantilly is more beautiful primarily due to the grounds. Whereas Versailles is so amazing due to it obscene scale. Something to note. To get to the stables you have to leave through the main entrance in which you came. The pathways in the park grounds are all cut off so don't waste your time like I did. The stables are like the ultimate horse stables. These horses are living in total luxury. There are 3 ticket options, grounds only, all access grounds, castle and stables and all access + horse shoe. We skipped the horse show due to getting there late because of the traffic. Anyways visit castle and walk the grounds 1st, then visit the stables. The stables are adjacent to the quaint town of Chantilly proper itself and a nice place to stroll some more. There's a great coffee shop where they serve the famous Chantilly cream in proper social media poser format called Le ateliers de Chantilly. I also be reviewing that place. Would have loved to try one of the local restaurants but we needed to head back to the city. Hopefully you'll have more time if you decide to visit this place yourself.

Yelp
We came during off season, so we traversed on the train and bus to get here. Everyone along the way was super friendly and helpful to guide us when we needed to confirm our route. From the bus, you have to go around the elaborate stables and cross the street to the chateau itself. There, you're asked to show your Health Pass before being able to purchase the entry ticket. It's a lovely castle--more subdued than Versailles. Nothing terribly exciting unless you're totally into antiques and the furnishings these people had. There was also some art to enjoy. It didn't take too long to go through it. On our visit, they were setting up Christmas decorations, so that was pretty.

Yelp
Fabulous! Don't miss a visit to a truly spectacular French chateau. Much better than Versailles.

Yelp
I absolutely love castles, movies with castles and all the above. So I was over the moon when we were staying out in this part of France where this castle was. It was beautiful, the inside of it was too. It honestly was everything I thought it would be. It was an amazing view. This is really cool if you like castles.

Yelp
The castle is magnificent both from the outside and the inside. I would definitely recommend a visit. In addition to being beautiful in architecture on the exterior, the castle boasts a rather large collection of paintings and interesting items inside. There is definitely a lot to explore. I recommend finding a real, guided tour and to stay away from the very poorly executed automated machine guide.

Yelp
It's really pretty inside and out. Take 20 minutes to walk the grounds. I parked in town and was told don't bother to pay for parking because they do not ticket. Also eat in the town. It is far cheaper and better.
