We chose the Chateau de Creissels for our 5 night getaway to the Millau region and it didn’t disappoint. The owners and staff are warm and welcoming, ready to share the history of the chateau and answer any questions about the area. The location is perfect as a base to explore the region. It is ideally located just across the Tarn river from Millau so it’s a 7 minute drive into town. It’s 25 minutes to the Roquefort cheese caves, 7 minutes to Graufenesque, a must-see archeological site that was an impressive roman pottery center and 10 minutes to Peyre, a fascinating village with a troglodyte church and houses perched on the mountain side. ||Our room was large and comfortable, and we were thrilled to learn that a famous local opera singer stayed in that very room toward the end of her career. Room 12 - Emma Calvert. The salon and library are original to the chateau, beautifully furnished and filled with all sorts of books, current magazines and newspapers. Beverages are offered and it is a great place to relax with an espresso.||The grounds in front of the chateau are filled with lovely wrought iron tables and chairs and low seating near the pool. On a sunny afternoon, after a day of sightseeing it’s the perfect spot to relax before dinner. We ate at the restaurant on our last evening and it was delicious! The ambiance is romantic, with stone vaulted ceilings and comfortable cream-colored chairs. The main server struck the perfect balance of amiable professionalism. Our meal was full of surprising ingredients and complex, creative flavors. We ended the evening at the bar with a digestif and were sorry to leave the next morning. A really delightful stay!
