Château de la Caze

It’s not everyday that you get to sleep in an authentic over 500 year old castle at the bottom of a beautiful ancient gorge. ||We absolutely loved the surrounding area and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon walk along the adjoining river bed before having a great night’s sleep in their super comfy beds with premium bedding.||We found all the staff to be cordial and professional and appreciated the period appropriate furnishings and decor throughout the property. ||While our early fall visit was quiet and beautiful, I can see why it is a very popular summer season destination for water and hiking activities as well.

Rapture! From the moment we arrived, I was euphoric. I have always loved castle hotels, but so many suck out the soul of a beautiful castle by gutting the interiors and replacing authentic beauty with contemporary rooms. That is not the case here! The castle feels authentic and is stunningly beautiful inside and out, in a remote and beautiful location. This is a very special place, lovingly managed. We loved the dinners and breakfasts on the spectacular terrace looking over the river. Canoeing down the river was a delight. Driving the gorgeous roads was a pleasure. Saint Chely du Tarn in the early morning light was stirring. A miscommunication when the property was sold earlier this year prevented us from being in the original room we had wanted. But the Melchior Suite proved to be exceptional. We were delighted with it. It is so comfortable and romantic, with a beautiful view over the river from the private terrace. I can only imagine how overwhelming the upkeep of such a stunning property would be, but I do hope the formal garden is able to be maintained. It looked different from the photos, but as a gardener, I hope they can keep up with it so it isn't lost. Don't hesitate to enjoy this experience of a lifetime!

Nestled in breathtaking surroundings, this stunning chateau is the perfect blend of luxury and history, offering a truly unforgettable experience. Our room was a haven of comfort, with luxurious furnishings, thoughtful touches like plush robes, flip-flops, and a minibar stocked with delightful treats. The beautifully scented soaps added a touch of indulgence, making even the simplest moments feel special. The service was exceptional – the staff were warm, courteous, and genuinely dedicated to making every moment of our stay perfect. They couldn’t do enough for us, always going the extra mile to ensure we felt welcome. Dining at the chateau was a standout experience. The restaurant meal we enjoyed was nothing short of a showstopper – each dish beautifully crafted and bursting with flavor, perfectly paired with exquisite local wines. Surrounded by stunning scenery and steeped in history, Chateau De la Caze offers a truly memorable escape, where every detail is designed to delight. We can’t wait to return!

Great historical place in a unique location on the Tarn river. We enjoyed a great dinner and breakfast and the team is very nice and does everything to make your stay unique! Really recommend the dinner with the unique view on the Tarn river.

I would consider this place operated as how a typical French hotel was operated from 30 years ago. Waited 3.5 hours for our room and then there was no wifi in the room. The room was booked months in advance and when we checked in we were told the room was undergoing renovation which we were not informed of in advance. The only thing renovated was the installation of a heat/air conditioning unit. The rest of the room was not touched. The only saving graces were the size of the room and the nature surrounding the hotel.

We previously stayed here under former owner operators of this hotel. clearly things had changed and service levels are not as good as previously. Being a very hot day the pool was a welcome relieve but the poolside bar not operating and no idea how to get a drink. Dinner on the terrace was very pleasant but late afternoon we're told the bar didn't open until dinner time - odd for a 4 star hotel. The rooms historic if a little tired. The breakfast buffet adequate but uninspired. Dinner was fine and dishes well prepared and presented. Value for money is questionable as the place is expensive. Being only open seasonally it's probably hard to get, train and retain staff....and it shows. Despite all the above we did have a pleasant stay and interactions with staff were fine.

Extraordinary! The location can’t be beat of course, but we also love the way the chateau has been renovated, preserving history yet adding modern touches. Suite Jeanne is fabulous – the views in 3 directions, the comfortable bed, the cozy sitting room, the gorgeous bathroom. Staff were all very helpful and cheerful. Eager to return.

Whilst the location and views are stunning, the service left a lot to be desired. There was a huge problem with flies at dinner, every diner was complaining, but the staff just didn’t care and said there was nothing they could do. There were no fly traps to be seen and yet flies were crawling over the buffet breakfast the next day. My husband asked for his steak saingnant (rare) and it was at least medium. They refused to do anything about it, and basically told him he was wrong. The waitress was bordering on rude. |I can’t fault the rooms, fantastic deep bath that’s great for two, with nice but not special toiletries. |The pool area is lovely, but the hot tub which used to be free is now €38/30m per person! And there are strict signs about one pool towel only per person. |That doesn’t welcome a guest paying a hefty room rate.
