Château de Mercuès (Mercuès, Occitanie) 2 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Château de Mercuès has existed in one form or another since about 650 AD, and was home for centuries to the Bishops of Cahors. In its present incarnation, it’s a luxury hotel, its fairy-tale turrets and towers converted into sumptuous and authentic guest rooms, its defenses used for peacefully surveying the countryside surrounding the Lot river, north of Toulouse." - Tablet Hotels

The hotel was a wonderful ancient building, superbly positioned on top of a hill. Our room was very good and the beautiful gardens and swimming pool much appreciated. All the staff were very friendly. We would stay again. The restaurant was quiet and we felt a bit "overserviced" with staff coming to our table more than was required. We felt the restaurant was not the same value-for-money as the hotel stay as the wines by the glass seemed overpriced.

Rain, Fog, and Fine Dining… Despite the gloomy weather, we made our way to Le Château de Mercues for a truly memorable lunch. This beautiful castle, perched above the Lot Valley, is part of the esteemed Relais & Châteaux family and recommended by the MICHELIN Guide. It lived up to every bit of that reputation. • We enjoyed a delicious meal in an elegant dining room with our chairs facing the fog-draped views of the valley. The service was flawless, warm, professional, and five-star through and through. • The highlight on this experience was an impromptu behind-the-scenes visit of the chapel and the kitchen, where we met the sous-chefs and watched the brigade prepare for the evening’s gastronomic dinner. It was like witnessing a perfectly orchestrated dance. Thank you! • Another unforgettable Relais & Châteaux experience. Already looking forward to the next one.

We had a great experience at Chateau de Mercues where we stayed for 2 nights. The site is stunning with fabulous views over the river Lot. Excellent dinners, wine facilities visits and a very large swimming pool which is not so common.

We are just on our way home from a wedding where we spent two days at this absolutely delightful chateau. ||It had all the usual fantastic elements such as a picture perfect view, beautiful grounds, fantastic food and wine, lovely rooms etc but what set it apart for me was the amazing standard of service by every single staff member. ||I have stayed in many expensive hotels all around the world but the staff at this particular hotel were by far the most courteous, polite and helpful that I have ever encountered by some considerable margin. I could have picked any single staff member and they would have typically been the one exemplary person you might occasionally get somewhere else but here it was just simply everyone which is something I have never encountered previously. ||Will definitely stay again one day!

It was our second visit here and for 2 nights this time as we wanted to spend some time in Cahors.|As before, it lived up to our expectations be it the bedroom with its splendid view, the restaurant and bar, the courtyard, gardens and all the public spaces. We obviously had breakfast on both mornings which were good and a great evening meal reviewed on the other Tripadvisor chateau site.|We did the winery and wine tasting again and enjoyed it whilst my wife used the pool which she enjoyed.|All the staff we met were friendly and helpful we a third visit being on the cards next year.

The restaurant was a big disappointment and a reason to reconsider staying in the future. The restaurant information on line suggests that there are ala carte choices but in reality it is a fixed menu (2 options) with no choices. There are likely many customers who like me cannot eat certain foods and would prefer some flexibility even if in the set menu format.

This property trades on its location and the fairy-tale chateau. Beyond that the property is tired and uninspiring, service is okay (but not enough staff), room cleanliness was poor and the eating options are very limited. I particularly didn’t like being asked three times at checkout whether I was sure we didn’t have breakfast…hhmm, let me think!! Not the special experience our friends had promised. Wouldn’t come again.

Yelp
I am updating my review because after much pressure they finally agreed to credit me back for the unused breakfasts during our stay I hope they will fix their shower situation , WIFI and attitude towards client to be worthy of a 4 star Beautiful settings and location sub par accommodations and service Here are 3 things not acceptable in a 2 star hotel let alone one pretending to be 4 stars . 1/ Rooms have no showers; you have to sit in bathtub and hold shower head above your head (no wall attachment) 2/ non functioning wifi ( 1.5 MBS max and constant need login with very tricky passwords if you leave room or stop using your computer for 5 minutes) which makes it unusable & 3/ Dishonest people. We booked our hotel thru expedia and overlooked the fact that we had paid (Euro 28 / person for breakfast = a total of 420 euros for our Family. The hotel was 1/2 empty and at NO TIME were we told that our breakfast was included (voucher, reminder like in any hotel! let alone 4 star). Upon returning we realized this and contacted Expedia and the hotel which refused to credit us back stating that they had indicated to us (true) the presence of breakfast facility!! I am outraged and out by $470 adding insult to injury. This was a big birthday with my Family coming from the US. Please avoid this place. Lastly the beautiful pool is not heated and freezing cold so no guests used it over the 3 days we were there.
