The Chateau is gorgeous! A truly beautiful building in similarly remarkable grounds, located at the highest point in Namur. Our room was relatively compact (it was the only room available when we booked; usually there are also bigger rooms and suites available), but it was elegant and sumptuously decorated, with an enormous bed dressed in crisp white linen. The staff consistently offered excellent customer service, with flexibility and helpfulness being keynotes. They were either multilingual or able to endure with good grace our terrible attempts at French. Mention must be made also of the food. The breakfast buffet was ample, offering a wide variety of well prepared, good-quality foods. But the finest moment was the lunch, prepared and served by students of the School of Gastronomy. There was a meal to remember! Exquisite dishes and good wines all served with professionalism, and incredibly good value for what was presented.
The only downside (a small one) is that you have to walk uphill on roads through largely un-lit woodland to reach the building from the city. So strong legs and a torch are needed if you're not driving. That said, taxis in the city are plentiful and not expensive.
We both felt very fortunate to have stayed at the Chateau and look forward very much to returning. We were likewise enchanted with Namur, which is an attractive, easy-going and friendly city, with lovely people, great transport connections and many fine things to see within its boundaries.
