New Luxury Hotel Is Opening in a Castle in Sancerre - AFAR
"A 12th‑century hilltop castle with a distinctive tower whose silhouette appears on many local wine labels, this medieval edifice crowns the town and overlooks the Loire Valley vineyards. Monks began cultivating vineyards nearby around the time of its construction; the castle was partly destroyed in 1621 during post‑religious‑war reprisals. Privately owned by the Marnier‑Lapostolle family for roughly 150 years, the property was sold in 2022 to David Chicard and Audrey Dumont and has since been reopened to guests, allowing visitors to walk historic grounds, sleep in centuries‑old spaces and dine with sweeping valley views." - Opheli Garcia Lawler
Very enjoyable visit to the wine making of the Château de Sancerre. Enora, our guide, introduced us to the history, the distinct soils and the wine making process.
At the end, we could enjoy 4 white Sancerre and a red one, with exchange on tastes and food recommendation.

Tasted 3 red and 3 white wine. Young blonde lady spoke fluent English which helped a lot. She even gave us a history of wine. Awesome experience. Would recommend it.

Too bad that a beautiful spot like that has such as tour. The tour guide was unprofessional, barely answered the questions and wanted to finish as quickly as possible. Considering that some of the wine tours are free in the region, I feel it's not worth the 15€.

We had a lovely tour of the facilities followed by a wine tasting. I can’t remember the name of our host, but can remember she was from Georgia and has just started - you’d never know! She told us the story of the region and the castle confidently, and answered all of our questions. She was very friendly, and guided us though the different bottles expertly. The experience is very fairly priced at 20 euros per person, which includes a tasting of about 5 different wines with a small plate of local cheeses and ham. We will definitely visit again next time we are in the region!

Great tour. So interesting and we learned a lot. Helped immensely by Mathilde. We were the only English couple on the tour but she translated everything into English so we could be involved. Thank you Mathilde xx

As the place is now bought by someone who will turn it into a hotel ,we couldn't go into the chateau or the tower next to it. Which is such a shame. The wine tasting was nice, especially with the food pairing. So the price is sort of justified. But not being able to see the chateau or tower on the inside makes it less nice.

Great little tour, we had for kids with us so didn't want anything too intense. Tasted 3 whites, 1 rosé and 2 red and even get to keep the branded glass. Little bit of history about the fortress and how it's passed ownership over the years.
