Chateau Villarlong, Nr Carcassonne, France - Explore & Book

"Set among 60 hectares of vineyards, olive groves and rolling countryside, the sprawling Chateau Villarlong, just outside Carcassonne, is perfect for those who like a little medieval grandeur with their modern comforts. Split into 13 individual apartments, each accommodating 2-6 people (although most cater for groups of 4+), it’s a fabulously baroque retreat with its double-rounded stairway, gothic vaults, turrets, and cellars – while outside there are landscaped gardens, a private vineyard, an orchard, a Roman spring, even a converted chapel. But there are plenty of 21st-century features to enjoy too: a large infinity pool and sun terrace with panoramic views across the lush valley, tennis courts, an onsite restaurant as well as fully-fitted kitchens in all the rooms. The décor leans towards the comfortable and sympathetic – roomy sofas and armchairs, lots of exposed brickwork, wooden beams and flooring, as well as cavernous open fireplaces and wrought-iron bannisters. All of the rooms also have private terraces. We found it difficult to tear ourselves away, but the surrounding region is well worth visiting. There are swimming lakes and caves to explore; bustling Carcassonne (15km) is crammed with wonderful shops and eateries; and historic Narbonne is an hour's drive. Highs All the apartments are set up for self-catering, but there's also an onsite restaurant where you can dine in the converted wine vaults (very romantic) or out on the beautiful terrace Fantastic infinity pool with spectacular views that’s also big enough for laps or lilo-lounging The range of accommodation makes it great for children of all ages as well as groups of varying sizes (well-behaved pets welcome too) The sprawling grounds, encompassing tennis courts, vineyards, orchards and landscaped gardens, are beautiful Nothing is too much trouble for manager Marlin - she was super helpful during our stay and always on hand when we needed her Lows A car is pretty much a must if you want to leave the estate The restaurant is closed on Sundays No twin beds in any of the accommodation, and not all apartments have air-conditioning Toddlers or those with mobility issues might struggle with the uneven steps in many of the apartments" - Laura Perez

We had an amazing stay at Château Villarlong, everything was so well organised and the rooms were stunning and really creatively decorated. The grounds were breathtaking and it was truly relaxing. It was great for kids too, with plenty of activities in the local area but they also enjoyed relaxing and swimming and even tried playing Boules on the grounds. We would love to come back. Thanks everyone

Stayed for a night at this wonderful escape from the world. What a stunning setting in beautiful countryside and serene views. Classical French style and comfortable luxurious surroundings, with superb service and super friendly, multi-lingual staff. Evening meal was out of this world and huge compliments to the chef and team for a delicious and memorable dining experience - 5 stars for quality of food, service, and ambiance. Highly recommend - we'll definitely be returning.

We came across the restaurant of the hotel and have been willing to stay here ever since. The chateau is way off much better than what appears in the pictures. We will miss the relaxing sound of the fountain :)

We were invited to join a birthday dinner at the château. The approach is stunning and everywhere are lawns, flowers, cypress trees, gravelled terraces, fountains, ivy covered turrets and a gorgeous infinity pool with views of fields, hills and forests. |The pretty restaurant terrace had fluttering canopies, but we sat in the cool stone interior. |Beginning with an icy aperitif of fizz laced with elderflower liqueur, we were served tiny bowls of local, gleaming luque olives and sticky, charred duck hearts. |My starta burrata was topped with a tomato sorbet, on a bed of sweet, juicy tomato. Plenty to mop up with the home made bread rolls. |Others had chosen foie gras, tomato tarte tatin, which were all reported as light, fresh and tasty. |Next came boeuf tataki in a delicious Japanese style jus, with a carrot puree and crunchy fat chips. |I finished off with a creamy crème brûlée fragrant with lavender. |The wine that flowed was all local. |The food was imaginative and well executed with thoughtful presentation. The setting was beautiful. |We’d glimpsed one of the apartments, decorated with comfort and understated style. I suspect it might not be too long before a return visit with a sleepover, to soak up a bit of château life. Highly recommend.

We got married here in May, and had the best weekend ever. The staff were so helpful and kind and really open to making the venue work for us over the weekend. All our guests had a lovely time and were raving about the food and loved the pool! Over the course of a few visits, we have stayed in 4 different apartments, and each one of them has been beautifully appointed, cosy and clean. We never wanted to leave.

I was just at Chateau Villarlong for a wedding weekend. The venue is amazingly beautiful. ❤️ Staff is friendly and helpful; they even learned how to make special drinks for the cocktail hour and about a new sport to them - pickleball. Their wine is lovely and plentiful. The food was tasty from the continental breakfast buffet to the nightly multi-course dinners. The pool was refreshing and large enough for sports with plenty of comfortable seating for those wanting to sit in the sun. The grounds were beautiful to explore. Best of all was the Chateau's cat Elvis who seemed to love everyone!

I recently stayed at Château Villarlong and I can honestly say it's the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. The welcome was warm and personal, making us feel instantly at home. The grounds are absolutely stunning, the decor throughout the property is exquisite, both breakfast and dinner were perfect and the bathtub in our room absolutely incredible. We actually tried to book the same room for the following weekend... but it was already taken. That says it all. Can’t wait to come back!

We’ve just returned from our third stay at Château VilarLong, and every time we come back it truly feels like coming home. My brother had his wedding here last year, and it was honestly the most perfect location we could have imagined ,everything was simply amazing! The staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly. A special thank you to Marlin, who is always there to help with anything you might need. She constantly makes sure that nothing is missing and that everyone is having a wonderful time. This château is also a fantastic spot for a quick weekend getaway from London, being only about 30 minutes by car from Carcassonne airport. The estate has everything you could wish for in a holiday: beautiful surroundings with walking trails, a tennis court, play area, and a gorgeous swimming pool. On top of that, the food is outstanding, and the local wine is a true highlight. We couldn’t recommend Château VilarLong enough for weddings, family holidays, or just a relaxing break. We’ll definitely be back again
