We were invited to join a birthday dinner at the château. The approach is stunning and everywhere are lawns, flowers, cypress trees, gravelled terraces, fountains, ivy covered turrets and a gorgeous infinity pool with views of fields, hills and forests. |The pretty restaurant terrace had fluttering canopies, but we sat in the cool stone interior. |Beginning with an icy aperitif of fizz laced with elderflower liqueur, we were served tiny bowls of local, gleaming luque olives and sticky, charred duck hearts. |My starta burrata was topped with a tomato sorbet, on a bed of sweet, juicy tomato. Plenty to mop up with the home made bread rolls. |Others had chosen foie gras, tomato tarte tatin, which were all reported as light, fresh and tasty. |Next came boeuf tataki in a delicious Japanese style jus, with a carrot puree and crunchy fat chips. |I finished off with a creamy crème brûlée fragrant with lavender. |The wine that flowed was all local. |The food was imaginative and well executed with thoughtful presentation. The setting was beautiful. |We’d glimpsed one of the apartments, decorated with comfort and understated style. I suspect it might not be too long before a return visit with a sleepover, to soak up a bit of château life. Highly recommend.
