Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg

A very beautiful place indeed to visit ! 😍 If you visit this place after visiting the humaniste library of Sélestat , you have a reduction in the every ticket price. The place has been renovated very well to tell us the story of the past .It stands out in architecture ( between the French) in the border (between France and Germany) and remains unique in the mountainous region . We visited it recently during December and the views were breathtaking due to cover of fog (or clouds may be 😜) We loved the art work in the ceramics especially .

Beautiful old castle with impressive architecture and a commanding presence on the hill. The structure is large and striking, but many rooms were closed during the visit, so the full experience felt shorter than expected—about 20 minutes to see everything. Still worth it for the atmosphere and the views.

STUNNING! This castle was absolutely beautiful. If you are in the area, make the time to go see Château du Haut! The view from the top was also incredible!

My boyfriend and I went there mid November around 16:00. It was such a perfect timing to get the castle for ourselves. Literally was empty. The castle is by itself beautiful. We got incredible photos. Only downside is not too easy to get there, specially during cold season. We rented a car and it was not a big deal. This is a must when you visit Alsace.

Guaranteed travel back in time, what a beauty of architecture with so much history! Guided visit is a must to really understand the history and what an achievement that is as a fortified castle! Take a solid 1h, ideally 1h30. Better get here at 4pm lor take time to cover the visit throughout the building, it’s big and lots of stairs ( a nice work out too…!) Great visit, stunning buildings!

Loved seeing both the outside and inside of the castle. A very imposing place. We did the audio guide which I'd recommend. Took us approximately 1.5 hours to complete. Great views, too.

This was our spectacular final stop on a day tour to the Alsace region from Strasbourg. Save your energy for the walking required to see all of the areas of the Château. Our guide gave such a good history of the multiple ownership and renovation changes this place had seen and pointed out many interesting features. A terrific place to go and not far from Strasbourg by car.

This is an AMAZING medieval castle! OK, get there whichever way you can. This is in my top five when it comes to castles. Absolutely gorgeous! It's quite the ride up a mountain to get here and if you suffer from vertigo please take your meclizine. Their are some hairpin turns and if it's foggy like when we went, it may be worse for you, but it is well worth it. We were above the clouds by the time we arrived and it was stunning. Check out some of the pics and I believe you'll agree with me.

We had a great time touring the castle. Definitely try to head towards the top of hill for parking as it is a fairly steep walk. Although tons of cars, it wasn't really that crowded inside the castle. €12 each. Beautifully restored with interesting features! A nice visit when in Alsace region.

While you're in Alsace, in between hopping to Vineyards, make sure to take some time to visit the Chateau du Haut-Koenigsbourg. When I visited, it was a foggy and gloomy day down in the valley. My friend and local tour guide assured me that the castle was not to be missed while in Alsace. Game for anything, I was eager to see the place while I was there. We wound up the hill, climbing higher and higher, until finally the fog broke and the castle was visible, like it was floating in the sky. We parked along the side of the road, bought our tickets, and set off on a self-guided tour. There are guided tours available, but so much is explanatory as you walk through. Haut-Koenigsbourg is a perfect example of Alsace itself. Centuries old and overseeing the production of some of the best white wine in the world (no bias here, I assure you!), it was restored meticulously after Alsace was ceded to Germany in the late 19th Century (hence the mashup name that combines both German and French). When Alsace was returned to France after WW2, it was naturally returned to French hands as well. Walk through history and see the transformation for yourself when you spend an afternoon at Haut-Koenigsbourg!

We saw this from the highway and followed the brown "attraction" signs all the way here. Parking is along the road leading up. Drive all the way to the top to look for spaces, there were many we passed on our walk. Parking continues on the road if you pass the castle and head down, if you still haven't found a spot just turn left to go back up and start again. The cost here was minimal. You follow the signs through the building. Many things were in English and there was also a pamphlet that talked about the different rooms/areas. This was our first castle visit since moving to the area so I can't speak to this v. other castles, but overall this was worth the stop. Our kids 4 and 6 did well walking through. There is a small gift shop inside and one outside as well with a small area to purchase food if you wish. Bathrooms are free and clean.

A gorgeous castle located uphill in the Alsace. This spot is extremely popular so expect crowds during the busy season. Tons of cars and buses arrive daily and you won't find this place quiet or without people. Having said that it has rich history and is undergoing significant renovations and restoration. The view from up above is spectacular and it well worth a visit if you are in the area.

We want to go back to the middle age and see a nice princess castle! You are in the right place. The castle make me think of all the Disney movies with princesses I have seen before... Saying this sound a bit "cliché" but it make you dream and that's what make it even better! Normal price of the visit is 9 euros,which is reasonable for a castle that was re-done from top to bottom. If you want to visit it for free, think about going the week end of the "journees du patrimoine" which is in September. The visit can take around 40 minutes if you do it alone. From the top you will have a nice view of the towns around... Perfect landscape especially if you are lucky to have a nice weather (which was not my case) You can also see nice furnitures, not originally from the same castle but at least it give you a view on how things were before. I really enjoy visiting this castle and would recommend if you are around .

Gorgeous Castle. Amazing view. A lot of parking space next to the castle. Most important thing here is the view. It is breathtaking. Just look at the panorama shot up close. Glad we went here.

Great historic castle! They do have English tours at 2pm daily but we got there at noon and did not wait for it. Now I wish I did. It was a wonderful castle with interesting rooms and there were so many questions that I had when I left. Visit here and check out the monkeys in the morning before you come. The two places are very close and could easily be seen together. This castle was redone by the Germans during their occupation but it looks like they restored much of the castle well...and it makes me want to see the chambers closed off upstairs.

My family went to visit the castle Sept '16. We had to park on the steep, winding road to get to the castle. By the time we made it to the site, 3 out of 4 of us needed a rest. By the time we made it to the castle, 3 out of 4 of us didn't continue through the castle. It is more for the physically heathly. I will try to buy a book about Haut-Koenigsbourg for it's history & history
