3 Best Day Trips from Sydney | Condé Nast Traveler

"This large-scale luxury resort in the heart of Hunter Valley wine country is the kind of place where you can land your helicopter on the front lawn. With 100 rooms, top-notch golf course The Vintage, a day spa, and conference spaces, virtually every leisure and business pursuit is covered. Book a lesson on the green with Richard Mercer, a pro golfer, then plan for some winery-hopping around Hunter Valley (nearby Bimbadgen and Brokenwood both offer cellar door tastings, and fine dining resto Esca Bimbadgen's wine pairings are on point)." - Sophie Davies

We recently held our conference at Château Élan and the entire experience was seamless from start to finish. The team ran everything so effortlessly, and every single staff member we interacted with was outstanding.||A special mention to Rebecca Brown, who coordinated our event with professionalism and genuine care — she went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly and nothing was ever too much trouble. Mia, who looked after us at the bar, was such a delight — bubbly, warm, and always helpful. And MD, our dedicated functions person, was incredible. He was with us throughout our events, making sure our business sessions ran smoothly and without a hitch.||I deal with many venues, but the staff at Château Élan truly stood out. Their hospitality, attention to detail, and willingness to go the extra mile made this our most successful conference yet. We’ll absolutely be back!

The property is in a beautiful location, and the common areas are well maintained. The staff are excellent—always friendly and willing to help, even late at night. The golfing experience was outstanding, with the pro shop team being both lovely and extremely helpful. That said, the rooms no longer reflect a 5-star standard. Since my last stay in January 2022, the quality has noticeably declined. The carpet is worn, the mattress feels near the end of its lifespan, the bathroom sink is cracked, and the shower fixtures are in very poor condition. Even basic oral care amenities were missing. This resort is in need of a proper renovation, and I truly hope to see it return to its former glory.

This is the second time I have stayed here in 4 years and it was just as excellent. The rooms which was a one bedroom suite with gas fireplace and spa bath. Spacious, clean rooms. A surprise bottle of local bubbles awaited us for my birthday. The staff were fantastic and consistently provided a high level of service. The location is magnificent. Very close to The Nineteenth which is a marvellous clubhouse. I couldn't recommend this venue more ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A relaxing stay in late August. The Gas open fire was very cosy and added to the ambience of overlooking the golf course and enjoying the afternoon visits of kangaroos. The accommodation was spacious, comfortable, clean and functional and met all our needs. Well located to all the best the Hunter valley has to offer. The staff were approachable and responsive to all our requests. A special thanks to Josephine and Mel from the housekeeping staff.

We recently stayed here on a birthday midweek trip. The resort is located exactly where you would want to be when visiting the hunter. The grounds are beautiful, easy to run around or go for morning walks to see kangaroos ! So many out and about. The rooms are lovely and well maintained but you can tell they are going to age a little in the next few years. Nothing is wrong with them at all / they are still clean tidy and functional. If you’re wondering whether to add the breakfast or not - please add it. It was one of the most diverse buffet breakfast we have ever had and all the food was cooked to an exceptional standard. It’s also lovely Sitting in the dining room looking out to the golf course while starting your day. Reception and concierge were helpful - they helped us booked a few things such as taxi transfers etc. I would come back here. Lovely Romantic gateway.

Chateau Elan is a beautiful spot situated close to many stops in the Hunter Valley. We had such a peaceful time outside with the courtyard golf course view and on some days there were adorable Kangaroos right up close to see. Extremely tranquil in winter time and a great getaway. Our rooms were a little bit dusty upon arrival but it was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Great experience.

My partner booked this hotel for our anniversary, and we were incredibly disappointed from the moment we walked into the room. It reeked of sewage. We immediately called reception, and while a manager and another staff member came to address the smell, it was only slightly improved—not eliminated. To make matters worse, we were inexplicably given an accessible room. My partner is 6'2", and the bathroom setup was completely impractical for someone his height—he had to bend over just to use the sink. When I asked reception why we were placed in that room, there was no explanation offered. The room itself was far from the "5-star" standard the hotel claims to have. The walls were marked and dirty, the carpet was worn out, and the furnishings looked like they hadn’t been updated in decades. Overall, this stay was a huge letdown. Save your money and book elsewhere—this place is not worth the price or the reputation it tries to sell.

Rooms ok, furniture a bit worn, lounge a bit firm to sit on. Bathroom rather chilly at night. Villas are a few minutes walk from main building and restaurant area. Unfortunately didn't have time to use outdoor or gym, and like most courses a bit waterlogged. Loved the fire place and big balcony, able to watch golfers and kangaroos passing by. Buffet breakfast great, all staff helpful and friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing spa package
