Best Bordeaux Wineries to Visit

"In an area where affordable wines can be difficult to come by, this St. Emilon Grand Cru offers a genuine taste of the terroir at realistic prices, and provides a great base for touring with its lovely B&B, including a gorgeous landscaped swimming pool about a mile from the center of town. Other attractions include its extensive quarry caves and guided tours and tastings. chateaufrancmayne.com" - Food & Wine Editors

I’m not sure where to start this review as we’re leaving with such a warm heart and a feeling that we’ve lived beautiful moments in this Chateau. The location is absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking, a true gem nestled in the most picturesque surroundings. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by Pascale, whose friendly approach and warm smile made our check-in process so smooth. We arrived a bit earlier than 4 pm, which gave us the opportunity to start our holiday with an incredible wine tour provided by the Chateau. Having done wine tours before, this one stood out, it was not only lovely but also educational. The rooms are equally impressive, gorgeous, spacious, with comfortable beds and beautiful amenities. The chateau and its surroundings are simply stunning. There’s an incredible sense of being in a special place, yet it’s never overcrowded, giving you the feeling that you’ve rented the chateau all to yourself. Our two chihuahuas, Ella and Bailey were also warmly welcomed throughout our stay, which made the experience even more special for us as pet owners. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the breakfast experience. Rachel, our host, is the epitome of class, warmth, and hospitality. She puts love and care into everything she does, making the experience truly memorable. This has been one of the best B&B experiences we’ve ever had. If I had to sum up our stay in one word, it would be “magnifique.” Merci ❤️

Tranquility & Luxury, the perfect place to stay in the Saint-Emilion region. The winery itself is spectacular, perfect offerings and cellar door is a pleasure and the tours are fantastic. The accommodation is next level, could recommend this higher enough. Amazing rooms, perfect service & a true feeling of peace to be found in every room. The breakfasts deserve a special mention, and so does Rachel for her wonderful assistance & local knowledge. Access to the local town, Libourne & even Bordeaux is a true positive also. Even though we haven’t finished our stay yet, we definitely look forward to returning again some time in the future!

Our first stop in Saint-Émilion, Château Franc Mayne, exceeded all expectations. The grounds are stunning, and the wines are exceptional! We chose the vertical tasting experience, and our fantastic guide, Laetitia, presented a thoughtfully curated lineup: a 2012, 2017, and 2019 Grand Cru Classé, along with a 2019 Grand Cru for comparison. Even the 2012 showcased vibrant notes and fruitiness, highlighting the impressive aging potential of their wines. One of the highlights was exploring the extensive cave network—an absolute must-see at Château Franc Mayne. This winery also boasts the most comprehensive public wine library we encountered during our visit to the Bordeaux region, featuring bottles dating back to 1994 (available as of 2025). Their exceptional selection prompted us to purchase wine and have it shipped home—a seamless process in Bordeaux. Overall, it was an outstanding experience. If you're in Saint-Émilion, don't miss Château Franc Mayne—you won’t regret it!

Highly recommend the vineyard and the Limestone Secrets tour in particular (with or without kids). We were able to get a much fuller sense of the history of the region and learn about much more than wine. Veronique was a really terrific guide - informative and engaging and helpful.

We spent 10 days in Bordeaux and about. a week going to wineries. This may have been our favorite. The atmoshere is different in a good way. The caves are amazing and the tasting was magnificent. Out tasting guide (Jan?) did a tremendous job walking us thru some of their wines. I especially like how she helped us articulate what they expect for each wine we tasted. Really great place

This chateau was a wonderful, tranquil oasis. We spent 2 nights here. The staff were lovely and friendly. Cecile give us a tour and wine tasting and was really pleasant and knowledgeable. Pascale looked after us in the quest rooms. She is a lovely lovely person, very approachable and friendly. We were able to walk through the peaceful vineyards into the beautiful town of St Emilion in 20 mins. Gorgeous place with lots of winding cobbled streets, many restaurants and lots of opportunities to try the local wine. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone. Thank you 😃

Yelp
You should definitely visit this place if you are in the Saint Emilion area. We went there expecting a regular / standard wine tasting tour and when we started walking to the caves/tunnels we were like... ok, this is new! The guide not only gave us an explanation of the history of Chateau Franc Mayne, but she was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the region and explained to us in such detail everything that we saw in the limestone tunnels. I do not remember the name of our guide, but she was a girl that was in Napa for a little while, she was the nicest person.
