This is an amazing hotel, but not for everyone. My wife and I planned a 7-day bike trip through wine country and needed a place north of Bordeaux in order to comfortably reach Puillac (42km) and everything in between. I called several places (there are not many) and we chose this Hotel/Chateau because of the concierge, Taissa. She was incredibly polite, knowledgeable and smart with the details (she referred us to O2 Cycles (top tier). These traits are quite welcome as you undertake a logistical exercise like this in another country. We relied on both her and Chloe and they were terrific. The chateau and grounds command the large quiet landscape ten steps from the Garonne River. The view cannot be matched. There is a private boat that can take you in and out of Bordeaux, or anywhere in the area for a price, and it looks beautiful tied to the the magnificent floating dock (see the pictures on the website). The room, breakfast and service are magnificent. You must be aware of the fact that they do not serve lunch or dinner in their dining area but you can get cheese and other delicious but limited items delivered to the room anytime. You should have a bike or car if you stay here because it is not near a bakery or restaurant. They do have a driver, Mr. Rush, that can be used and he is reasonably priced, punctual and polite. We picked up a baguette, bottle of wine and other pates etc... throughout the day and ate them in our room for dinner. This will not do for everyone but was romantic and allowed us to focus on the day's select bottle of wine mere steps from bed without driving at all. Loved the quiet but the isolation requires logistical forethought. For us, this stay could not have been better--thank you to the entire Grattequina Team!
