We returned for a second stay at Chateau Hotel this week. The location is great! It’s close enough to great food and fun without a lot of noise at night. I can’t say enough about the staff, they were beyond friendly and accommodating! Jennifer checked us in and let me see the room for approval before assigning it to us! We felt safe here. Self parking across the street was a plus! The room and bed were very comfortable and the water pressure was not a problem here. Elaine was at the front desk the next day and was helpful with letting us in our room when our e-key on my phone didn’t work. Both front desk ladies are a great asset to Chateau Hotel! They always had time to answer questions and suggest places to eat. We will return again to Chateau Hotel. Absolutely no complaints!

Beautiful hotel with bags of charm and character. It really won’t disappoint on that front. Very friendly staff that made us feel welcome straight away. The room was super clean and well looked after. Very comfy bed with fresh linens. A/c is ice cold. The location is excellent. You’re only minutes from Bourbon St. We walked out to dinner, realised I had left my wallet in the room but we were so close I could just run back to retrieve it. The one downside was that unfortunately our room was on the ground floor and right on the street so was very noisy. We stayed on a Monday so it wasn’t too bad in terms of people late at night, but the trucks and cars going past in the morning woke us up really early. The old walls of course don’t do much for sound deadening. Then what we presumed were the cleaners were talking very loudly in the courtyard, but this was after 9am so that’s more on us for having a lie in! Overall a really pretty hotel and I absolutely would stay again, but I would definitely specify a room further away from the street.

We stayed over the 4th of July weekend and had the best time. Jennifer, hotel receptionist, was very accommodating by changing our room for our needs. When she walked us to our room, I was instantly happy with the Superior King room. Elaine was so very friendly and made us feel at ease. The location was great with many shops, restaurants and bars are in walking distance. Word of advice, when exploring comfort over fashion. We are looking forward to another visit next year and staying right here.

Ms. Elaine made our time at the Chateau Hotel! She was so welcoming, helpful, and kind from the beginning. She made sure we had everything we needed upon our arrival and went above and beyond to accommodate us and our large group. The hotel is gorgeous and perfect for NOLA! We sincerely enjoyed the historic layout, decor and the pool and courtyard! The bed was extremely comfortable. Also a good walkable location. We would recommend this place.

Google
Absolutely amazing spot, they have on site parking which is a plus, no hassle when trying to find the place. The reception did an incredible job with showing us around, and providing good spots to go while visiting New Orleans. Overall great experience, the hotel rooms were very clean, and the staff were all super friendly!

Chateau Hotel, located in the French Quarter, is only a few blocks away from the famous coffee shops, restaurants, and historic St. Louis Cathedral. Celebrating our wedding anniversary, it was the perfect location for our stay, only a few blocks from Bourbon Street. A friendly staff welcomed us. Special thanks to Mrs. Elaine! She was awesome. Also, Jennifer, Tina, and the gentleman that worked the second shift, and the room service team, thank you all very much for the memories.

Google
This is a cozy hotel in walking distance to the French Market and Bourbon Street. The rooms are classy. The beds are comfy. The pool is clean and refreshing. The staff is attentive and will help you book any of the local tours - just ask. There is only one working at the front desk, which could cause a slowdown during peak check-in times. Otherwise, it's a fantastic place to stay in NOLA.

Google
Clayton was wonderful and helpful. Everyone was very nice. The room was...utilitarian. it really needed a small refrigerator. The 3 drawer dresser was missing a drawer pull on each drawer. The small table and hard wood chair added nothing to comfort. A comfortable chair to sit on would have been nice. The tiny sink and vanity and lighting in the bathroom was not meant for any woman. You could barely put your toothbrush and toothpaste on it, a lot less make up or hair products. There is no where to hang a towel or wet bathing suit except for 2 small hooks on the door. There was a very unpleasant smell in the hallway that I'm sure had to do with the standing water downstairs, but unpleasant no matter what. The pool was great and we really enjoyed it.

Yelp
Service from check In to out was great. All the concierge were helpful. Walking distance to everything. Bourbon street 2 blocks away. Perfect location. Very loud you can hear everything in the building. Very cute set up. Definitely keeping on my list of places to stay.

Yelp
I've only just booked my visit and stay with this hotel, but with how kind and understanding the staff was when I called! I will edit to add things to my review after our stay in October! :)

Yelp
Wow, I really didn't realize this place had such bad reviews. I didn't even check Yelp before booking this, but I'm glad I just went for it. The Château Hotel is definitely an older establishment. That's what you have to understand right off the bat, so it's going to be noisy. Yes you can hear people walking down the hallway, but that's what you get with an older building like this it's all part of the ambience. Everything was very clean. Bathroom was well stocked and the balcony was really cute. I really had no complaints. The front desk was fabulous. We got to know all the workers there in the morning and night shifts and they had fabulous recommendations and we're really knowledgeable about the area. They went above and beyond and made our stay that much better so thank you to the staff and the front desk. Their outside area was really pretty too. We didn't utilize it as much, but I'm sure in the summer. It's packed with people. The bed was comfy and the room was a good size. I loved having the balcony facing the street because I got to run out as soon as I heard the horses trotting down. I spent a lot of time there just people watching and it really made my stay in New Orleans that much more fun. I'd recommend this place any day. It's a great location, you're very close to every thing and once again the staff really was fantastic.

Yelp
A very big thank you to front desk staff and especially to Miss Elaine, our stay here was so enjoyable and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay during our visit. Our room was clean and the water pressure was great in the shower. Housekeeping was great too. We have no idea why folks would complain? Proximity to everything was great.

Yelp
Wonderful location and very welcoming staff. Parking is a few feet across the street. The courtyard is beautiful and rooms have updated bathrooms. The walls are very thin. We had a room facing the courtyard and it really needs blackout curtains. The lights from the courtyard kept me up. I reported this to the front desk and they said they were going to fix it soon. The beds were standard firm mattresses.

Yelp
Cute hotel located in the French district. It is an old property without modern upgrades so be prepared. HVAC vents and fixtures could use cleaning and maintenance. There are many second, third or fourth level rooms that do not have elevator access. Rooms have very poor insulation and you can hear your neighbors and people in the common area courtyard.

Yelp
Cockroach hotel. This hotel should not claim to be 3 stars. Located in the French Quarter on the most piss smelling corner is this sad hotel. You walk in and are greeted by an overwhelming musty smell. You think, I'll open a window but none of the windows open! On two separate nights we had giant cockroaches running through both the bathroom and room. No filtered water for drinking. Definitely will not stay again.

Yelp
This place is a total rip off. Do not be fooled by the nice pictures. Walls are paper thin, their tv and electrical boxes don't work in the room and these "deluxe" accommodations are no better than motel six. If you want a historic place to stay in the French Quarter, check out Place d'Armes. Just to add, we payed $100 over market rate. So DO NOT book ahead of time through Hotels.com I honestly can't believe how scammed we were by this.

Yelp
We arrived early, hoping to be able to have our luggage securely stored -- a standard practice for many hotels -- and were surprised when the clerk told us to simply put our bags in the corner of the room, out in the open, just to the left of the check-in desk. More importantly, though: We were given the wrong room. We paid more for a room with a balcony overlooking the French quarter, a mini fridge, & drinks vouchers. The room we were given faced the courtyard, and didn't have a balcony or fridge (and we weren't given vouchers). Not wanting to mar our experience further, and waste time and effort shifting our belongings, we waited until check-out to address it with staff. The clerk told us a staff member there had apparently changed our room shortly after we booked it (without informing us or explaining why). The clerk apologized to us and credited us the difference between the two rooms. The room we received seemed nice, however, it was unsettling to see what appeared to be blood on the front cover of a New Orleans guidebook on our chest of drawers (see photo). Also, as others have mentioned, the walls are thin. We were able to hear the person in the next room turn on their TV at 4:30 am. Finally, there were issues with the toilet in our room, as it had almost no water in the tank and didn't want to flush properly, which resulted in a maintenance call. The saving graces of the hotel were its pretty exterior and courtyard, and the friendliness of the staff.

Corinne A.

Yelp
From check in to check out all our needs were met. The pool was refreshing, the rooms have great A/C. Centrally located near all the shops and food spots. Great for a romantic getaway.

Yelp
This is not The Four Seasons, but a charming old building in the heart of the French Quarter. Just a five minute walk to Bourbon Street, but far enough off that you'll be able to sleep at night. Brand new paint, flooring, bathroom, mattress, and modern A/C. The furniture is old -- that could use an upgrade. I highly recommend opting for a unit with a balcony. Extremely friendly staff is at the front desk 24/7. Very glad I stayed here.

Yelp
The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is no chair in the room and no coffee pot. Elaine at the front desk, was so sweet and helpful. I would totally stay here again

Yelp
This was a rather spartan hotel with a good location. Like every other structure in New Orleans, it was inadequately heated. The hotel claims to have heat and there is a bizarre switch on the wall labeled "CLIMATE CONTROL" that purports to operate the heat. It is not clear what effect it might have on the climate. You can move the switch to on or off and those are your only options. The weekend I was in NOLA, it was in the high 20s to low 30s. The heat such as it was did not help. This hotel is fine if what you plan to do is a little sightseeing, visiting good restaurants and then crashing at the hotel. This is what we did an I would stay here again, preferably in warmer weather. The staff was helpful and friendly.

Yelp
The hotel staff is extremely respectful and helpful. They saved us from some scary people. I really appreciate how professional the staff was.

Yelp
Good for the price but there's a catch... The location is great and the rooms are quaint but if you look closer you'll find some not so appealing qualities. In my bathroom there was some black spots on the ceiling which i would guess is mold due to moisture since the bathrooms do not have a vent. The toilet was also not secured, it was missing the floor bolts and could be moved around. And the kicker is I found a bug that looks like a little cockroach in the morning. He was hiding in the used towels I had on the floor. There were however no bedbugs, believe me i checked thoroughly. That all being said, it's in a great location, the staff is very nice and the building especially the courtyard is super cool. The saying you get what you pay for applies here. Do with this info what you will.

Yelp
I have no idea why this hotel has such a low rating! We had a wonderful stay here. The room looked just like the pictures, it was clean and comfortable. The staff was AMAZING, so generous and kind, willing to help us with anything. The pool area was great, it's a small hotel so it has a private feel, not crowded with children. It's in a great walking distance to everything but is far enough from bourbon street where it is quiet and you can sleep at night! We will definitely be staying here again, not to mention what a steal the rate per night was for this great hotel!

Yelp
This is probably the WORST hotel I've stayed in my entire life. The carpet was stained and we had NO windows, no basic accommodations... smelled like mold, mattress was filthy, came home with bug bites all over my bottom, fan in the bathroom didn't work, dinged you walls... The employees were very nice but this place is due for a major remodel. Our fridge didn't work, dusty bed rails, uneven flooring. The bed sheets had stains on them, the walls had stains on them, ugh terrible. Also there was a ghost in my room! Super creepy ambience!! If you're into a no frills boutique hotel this is definitely the place for you. Honestly a motel 6 would've been nicer to stay in than this place. We paid $600 for 3 nights. Ridiculous!!!!

Marcia K.

Yelp
NOTE: Does not have elevator and could find no mention of this on website!!! Pictures/description on website do not accurately describe hotel. The lobby was not decorated as described, courtyard and pool area were not beautifully landscaped, and room was sterile and not warm and inviting. Plus - location, which is why I gave it 2 stars. Wish we had stayed somewhere else.

Yelp
This Hotel is terrible! Gross rooms with poor repairs jobs throughout, if issues were bothered to be fixed. The staff by and large wasn't helpful. We voiced our issues and dissatisfaction with the room and were told they could t refund our money or even call a supervisor who could until the next day. My wife and I didn't even want to sit down in the dark dingy room and were afraid we would break something everywhere we looked. Absolutely would not reccomend.

Ashley R.

Yelp
10/10 would recommend. Every single person we interacted with was super friendly. We asked for several recommendations and they were all excellent. The room was super clean when we checked in. The location was amazing. Close enough to walk every where in the quarter without the late night noise from bourbon street. We visit NOLA every 3-4 months and this will be our new go to place to stay going forward.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to staying here with my girlfriend, and originally booked through booking.com using the "Pay When You Stay" policy. Regardless, Booking.com attempted to charge me, so I called the hotel. They agreed to price-match the rate I got from Booking and even noted in my reservation that I would be paying upon arrival. I was so pleased with the fast and professional customer service. However, I was emailed today saying that my reservation would be cancelled if I did not pay immediately, and upon contacting the hotel, they said I was given the wrong information (by their own staff) and that it would no longer be possible. Changing the terms of a reservation after speaking directly to the renter regarding those exact terms: extremely unprofessional and shows a definite lack of organization. Very disappointed to know that this hotel, though beautiful, does not keep its word.

Yelp
DON'T book this hotel!!!!! At first I thought it had some cute charm to it, but once I figured out the walls moved if you touch them, the building we were in was leaning, and that the carpet was so disgusting I couldn't bear to walk on it, I decided the charm wasn't making these things better. The pool was some weird color, the a/c didn't work (apparently common, since they had a "powerful" box fan available), and there is a 40 parking fee and a 150 dollar deposit on the room key. I don't review a lot, but the roaches on top of all of this (that they knew about!), compelled me to share my experience.
google avatar

Faith R.

Yelp
This isn't a hotel, it's a motel. I checked into the hotel, and they charged my credit card $150 "deposit" which they said would be refunded within 5-7 business days (wtf?). They also told me they would charge $150 for a missing room key to change the locks if the key is lost. . This motel is so outdated, there isn't any central A/C in the bedroom or proper ventilation. The rooms have a musty smell, and there is mold on the bathroom ceiling (bc of lack of ventilation). I would encourage you to spend the extra money and book the Sheraton; it's not worth it to stay here.

Yelp
I just got home from New Orleans and another stay at The Chateau Hotel, I am going to leave my original review up, but here are some updates from my 3rd visit all a year apart. I absolutely am in love with this hotel!!! If you continue on to my original review you will see and it stands true it's not perfect but they sure try hard! This year we stayed in The annex across the street in what the bell man called "the best room in the place" he wasn't kidding it was a fully appointed 2 bedroom condo with a massive balcony overlooking St Phillip and the Chateau's main compound. For those that have gripped about being on this side get over that it was just perfect and we still used the courtyard and pool any time we wanted. The condo we had was in perfect order, gorgeous furnishings, excellent beds and bedding, tons of towels, a big fridge, and serviceable kitchen and just spotless. It's as good or better then any great suite in this city, and at a very fair rate. About the staff! We could not have had a nicer welcome! including a greeting from the owner. Everyone we encountered was wonderful, friendly, polite and welcoming. Almost any hotel stay can have service, cleanliness or maintenance issues , it's almost has to be expected. However I must say on this visit, The Lovely Chateau was perfect. The Chateau remains in my opinion the very best value in The French Quarter, if it wasn't I wouldn't stay there 3 years in a row. Give them a try, I think you might fall in love just like me! ORIGINAL REVIEW This is a hotel I would Love to Love! After 2 stays, 1 year apart we are just in like!!! Don't get me wrong the heavy petting makes me want to return again next year, and The Chateau has so much going for it. why wouldn't I be in Like! The Location itself makes me Swoon! and The uber handsome courtyard is so well groomed and looked after that it's a real beauty and certainly this is The Chateau's finest feature. This is the one feature that should make you forget the rooms are not that big. The courtyard is that extension of your rooms! Plenty of tables chairs and pool lounges to give everyone a space to spread out to relax, and for groups and friends to convene, if you are quiet and in control they might even let you swim late into the night. The rooms themselves have always been found clean and charming and I have been in many of them since we travel in groups to NOLA. I have a few favorites, I especially liked my last room by the office on the courtyard, it was a tad larger and with the desk in the window it let me keep tabs on our group, and provided that meeting spot where most days and nights got started. The big ones on the 3rd floor are so romantic, and the balcony rooms over St Phillip are very cool. Service here is pretty good but not that perfect 10. The Maids are sweet, although the front desk can be salty, but efficient. room service is always pleasant, and if you need a little extra attention ask for Sarah. She is a very hands on and present owner that wants all her guests to enjoy there stay. Don't be scared away by there crazy casual reservation system, heck it works, and just ask about the cancelation policy, It's about as liberal as any hotel in the world. 2 years and a dozen reservations and not ONE issue. and that includes a hurricane a year ago. Is the Chateau That perfect 10? HECK NO!!! but who wants to pay for that!!! If you do... stop reading and call The Roosevelt! but what you do get is a very charming Hotel with a hard working crew, that has great rooms and even better amenities like free breakfast delivered to your room at the time ordered, free Wi fi, Salt water swimming pool, an inn keeper that's present, and one of the best locations in The Veuix Carrie. Book and stay here UNLESS your expectations include perfection! I grow tired of that perfect lover, it's just too much. They are expensive and often aloof with no personal connection. The best advice I can give you is realize what you are in for, affordable, old "in a charming charismatic way", well cared for compound. We have to except all great loves and their flaws Right?!? Date The Chateau and you might just have a great night! treat it well and enjoy the encounter! I would guess you cant wait for the next time to meet! like me. Buono Serra me amore NOLA, until we meet again I kiss you good night! JV

Yelp
After careful online deliberation on a choice for French Quarter lodgings, Chateau Hotel was chosen and it did not disappoint. I was was hesitant, as there were no reviews yet, so here ya go. Chateau's location couldn't be more centralized in the FQ as it took minutes to walk most anywhere. We got a room downstairs, directly off the courtyard which was small, but not too cramped. Bathroom was small and very dated, but considering the age of the building and neighborhood, and the rate we got, I wasn't expecting Mandalay Bay! Chateau is also right up the block from Flanagan's Pub which was great and ended up being our first and last stops! Wonderful courtyard/pool area, perfect for recharging after an afternoon of seeing which bar really does have "the best" bloody mary in town! Continental breakfast is included, and is delivered to your room or the courtyard by an overly-nice lady. Nothing major, juice, coffee, toast, muffin, etc., but it's a nice start before said bloody mary's! Some con's include the garbage trucks that constantly seem to be going by, no elevator, and yes, the sub-par bathrooms. Great for couples, young and old and groups of friends, Chateau Hotel was a great value and had a perfect location. I would definitely return.

Yelp
I never knew a hotel could ever make me cry. Thus the reason for checking in and out of a hotel without even spending the night inside. We've spent long hard hours thinking of the best ways to describe our experience, which we've listed out below for your benefit. Enjoy! * If you are looking for a place to rest your head, you've mistaken Chateau Hotel for a place that actually provides the means to make that happen. The two double beds in our room didn't even include white linen pillows as they expect you to lay your head on non-washable decorative pillows that have last night's Mardi Gras stench all over. They look like something out of your grandmother's backyard shed that hasn't been opened for 20 years. Speaking of grandma, remember opening a closet at her house and smelling the horrific death-meets-mothballs smell? Luckily, that memorable scent has made it's way over to the Chateau for a walk down memory lane! Aww! * I'm pretty sure "Interview With The Vampire" was filmed here as the carpet looked as if it had never been changed since the 1800's and the filthy smell of death lingered throughout our windowless room. Yes, windowless. It was so dark, we only had one tiny lamp to light up the whole room of murderous ambiance. If you are in fact a vampire - this place is for you! * Thinking about getting a divorce with your spouse? You should definitely consider staying at Chateau! My husband and I have never experienced the terror of the first 20 minutes inside our hotel room that involved heart ache, despair, anxiety, and the seven stages of denial. * Besides the fact that one cannot physically get physical with their spouse in this room, you may want to actually consider sleeping in the bathroom as it wasn't half bad. * As I was trying to describe the smell of the room, my husband quickly shut me down because he didn't want to be faced with the reality of what we were about to endure for the night. We both thought to ourselves, "Just how drunk do I need to get tonight to consider laying down on this lice-infested bed?" I actually said out loud, "This is the type of place I would have stayed at in college", but then again, there's no way in HELL that's even true to begin with! * As I unzipped my suitcase, I realized, I don't even want to lay my bag on top of that comforter. I would rather lick the doorknob to a public restroom than let any of my belongings make contact with that death trap! After 15 minutes of evaluating our situation as mentioned above, we decided to approach Glen, the front desk manager with our concerns. We first started off by saying we would like to switch rooms to something that at least has a king size bed and windows, but the more we thought about it, there was NO WAY IN HELL we were staying anywhere near that thing they call a "hotel". Glen decided to try and blame our experience on using a third party booking service so that he wouldn't have to actually do his job and keep his hotel customers happy. Not only did he RAISE HIS VOICE at me, he was the rudest manager I have ever met in my entire life by lecturing me on how to reserve a room in the future. If they truly felt that way about using third party vendors, then DON'T USE THIRD PARTY VENDORS ON YOUR CONTRACT WITH THE HOTEL TO GAIN CUSTOMERS!!! I've traveled for 32 years all over the world using booking services and not ONCE have I encountered such unprofessionalism as this man. I immediately took my things and ran straight over to a different hotel on the other side of town while my sweet husband gathered all of our belongings and packed up the car. He was so ready to get out of there, he somehow gained the strength of ten thousand Roman soldiers and carried all eight of our heavy bags down the stairs and across the street. We were SO gone! He swung back by the front desk to let Glen know we were OUT and low and behold there was another customer up in arms with him about her room not being correct. SHOCKING!! Needless to say, we learned A LOT on our trip to New Orleans. ALWAYS pay good money for a good hotel (Omni, International House, and Marriott to name a few) and NEVER stay in the French Quarter at a "boutique" hotel such as this one unless you enjoy bathing in ghost vomit stench. HAVE A GREAT STAY AT CHATEAU HOTEL! -said no one ever.

Yelp
I had such an unfortunate experience at this hotel. We reserved the Saint Charles Suite during Veterans Day weekend to celebrate a wedding. We had a 3 night stay. The check in went fine and the staff was welcoming with southern hospitality! The suite was beautiful nice but a little dark, it could use better lighting. On our second day, my girlfriends and I were sitting around the dining room table and a MOUSE scurried across the room and ran into a hole in the wall. We called the front desk and they said they would send someone immediately to set traps and resolve the issue. Unfortunately no one ever showed up. We did not even receive any further housecleaning for the duration of our stay. When we asked when someone was coming to clean and we were told that the house cleaners left for the day and we would need to come to the front desk to get towels, toilet paper and soap. The only plus side of the hotel is the location. Close enough to walk to the action but far enough to not be disturbed by the NOLA craziness. This hotel is very expensive considering the vermin infestation, limited housecleaning and poor customer service.

Yelp
I wish we would have taken the reviews more serious. We decided to be authentic while staying in the French quarter... we will not be making that mistake again. I'm not one to leave negative reviews, but I'd hate for someone to make the same mistake as us. When we first arrived, it was very hot, musky, & humid in our room. We immediately told the guy downstairs in the lobby. He had maintenance come up to check if the climate control switch was on, but he knocked on the door and just walked in. He did not introduce himself before just walking into our room. There are no thermostats in the rooms, only a climate control switch. We figured that it needed some time to cool down, so we went out and about for the day/night. When we arrived 5-6 hours later (11pm at night- when it should be cool), the room was still miserably hot and humid. We were in the room for about an hour, and could no longer stand it. To make matters worse, we couldn't breathe very well. We both started coughing and getting extremely congested during that one hour. We then noticed that there was mold on the vent. We went down to the lobby & decided to cancel our stay and switch to the Hyatt Centric. The lobby was a whole 20 degrees colder than the room was... as soon as we had come down to the lobby, the gentleman we spoke with before jetted out and left Ron to deal with our situation. Ron was very helpful and nice about the situation, and we understand that he was frustrated just getting into his shift & having to deal With a room change while other customers are checking in. We mentioned to Ron about the temperature and mold. He had the maintenance guy go check, and he verified the mold being there. Luckily, we booked through orbitz, and they took care of us with the refund for the remaining nights. We had to go through Orbitz to get the cancellation going, since it's third party. Ron continued talking over us and making comments throughout the process that were unprofessional. Again, we were very understanding given the frustrating situation. As soon as we had walked out of our room into the lobby, we could breathe normal again. It was a very noticeable difference. We really enjoyed our stay in New Orleans. The food, the people, the experience... but I would not recommend staying at the Chateau Hotel.

Yelp
This hotel is in the perfect location! Close to Royal, Bourbon, Decatur and Frenchman Streets. Staff waa accommodating and for the most part friendly. I had originally planned on a 4 night stay, however, due to weather that was reduced to 3. Sara, the reservations manager, didn't charge us for the first night when per the cancellation policy she could have. My first shower was lukewarm but upon notifying the staff the problem was immediately rectified. I'll stay in a different room next time as we were in 1 of 2 rooms that opened directly onto St. Phillip...there were no windows and we didn't feel safe unless the shutters were in deadbolt position. (Room 243) My only complaint was the filthy rug between the 2 double beds. I dig that the building is over 300 years old but wash the rug at least every century or throw it away.

Yelp
We paid $500 for a 2 night stay 3 weeks ago. We had the room just across from reception. 1st off, the bed was too high. We are both 5'3" & it was very hard getting into the bed. 2nd., the remote was broken for the TV. After given new batteries, it still didn't work. 3rd., there was only warm water in the shower, not hot. 4th., the sink was cracked. 5th., there was mold in the shower in several places. 6th., there was mold, rust & bangs behind the bathroom door. 7th., the curtains were coming down. 8th., second light in bathroom not working. 9th., dim lighting in room. 10th. we originally had a room on the 2nd fl. with no windows. When asked for help, as we are seniors, getting our luggage up the two flights of stairs, no one would help us. I am including several pics so you travelers can see for yourself. Do not be deceived by the outward appearance. No matter how good the location is, no guests should have to put up with this especially for $250 a night!

Yelp
This place was great. Fantastic location, very close to everything. The staff was extremely friendly and professional. The hotel is very old so a few things take a moment to get used to, which ultimately give it its charm. The only downside was the pool seemed to have a film on the surface and the tv in the rooms are tiny with maybe 2 channels that come in clear. But you're in New Orleans so who wants to be inside watching tv when there is so much to experience all around.

Yelp
The pictures were very deceiving at this place. I checked out the reviews ahead and had some concerns but thought I would chance it. I should have known better when they charged my credit card for the entire amount of the stay a month before we got there! When I called, they said it was an assurance that I wouldn't cancel since it's Jazzfest coming up! The place is very run down and not maintained at all. The pool was gross looking and the fountain had green water running in it. The lady working the day shift was not friendly at all. The room wasn't filthy and we didn't see any bugs but the plumbing didn't work right in the shower and it backed up the first day. I think someone did come and fix it somewhat. The water pressure was lousy and mostly, with no carpet or throw rugs and the dampness, the place smelled very musty all the time. There was no control for the AC except a switch that said "climate control". The only plus things were that it was in the French quarter and close to everything. So location was the ONLY good thing about the place. The cleaning person also did come and make our bed and tidy up with new towels each day too. We kept everything in our suitcases and other cases because we were afraid we would get bugs otherwise. We would not go back to this place again.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at Chateau Hotel last year and are coming back this weekend for a mini honeymoon because of the trifecta- Great service, great location, and great NOLA charm! Even starting with the booking process, the front desk staff (maybe Eric?) was so friendly and helpful in assisting us. I knew I wanted a balcony room this time and he gave great advice and let me know he would see us when we got in. We love taking breakfast back up to the room and eating pastries outside with coffee! The reviews which say the street rooms are loud maybe don't know what to expect from NOLA? We are from Baltimore and did not notice anything louder than a city street at home and we love the bustling streets there. The rooms have everything you need and we enjoy not being in a chain hotel. The beds are very comfy so we slept great! The pool and courtyard are great on humid LA days. This hotel has it all and is a great value for NOLA. Cannot wait to see you guys this weekend!

Yelp
If you are looking for a corporate, starched collar atmosphere, look elsewhere! The Chateau is privately owned, has less than 50 rooms & is not cheap but priced adequately for it's location and accommodations. Everything was within walking distance & far enough away from Bourbon Street to be able to get some sleep when needed! Room rates are higher on Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights. One night's deposit is required upon booking. The staff was great & made every effort to rectify any complaints...Although I had none! Paper & Continental breakfast is delivered to your door every morning & Ms Donna was the BEST! She brought coffee, juice, muffins & danish every morning and NEVER showed up without calling your room first! If you stay there make sure you leave a few dollars on the tray. I guarantee you will get FRESH coffee & ice cold juice the VERY next morning! The room we had was VERY nice & had a total pampered princess feel to it. I have seen comments on other travel sites regarding the condition of some rooms & they are not very appealing. BUT PLEASE know that in the week of my stay 2 rooms were fully renovated & others were in the middle of restoration. If you are looking for specifics, ..private entrance, windows, large bathroom, fridge in room or balcony.....ASK FOR IT when making your reservation! Don't complain because you didn't get what you were looking for when you didn't specify in the beginning. Be forewarned, there is NOT LATE CHECK-OUT!!! BUT...Regular check-out is 1 PM and your luggage will be safely held at the front desk if you wish to hit the Quarter one more time before your flight leaves! The front desk will also have a taxi waiting to take you to the airport at the time you desire if you ask. Cab ride is a $33.00 flat rate to airport from hotel.

Yelp
ROACHES, dirt, and hair! I'm leaving this to hopefully help someone not experience this hotel the way we did. My sister and I came to NOLA for her 30th birthday. A dream come true for her. We arrived at the hotel and were treated by the lovely miss Bonnie. She was sweet and welcoming. We eventually made it to our room, dropped our things and headed out! We arrived back to the room, and the door knob fell straight off. We attempted to screw it back on, however the mettle was pretty stripped. We continued on and began settling in...then we notice how dirty and sandy the tile floors were, my feet were black!! I immediate got into the shower. Where I noticed a while in the plastic shower curtain, hair and dead bugs on the ceiling of the bathroom. My sister and I went to go talk to reception about it, and of course on our way out the door knob came straight off. Being that our door went to the street, we felt at this point it was secure enough. Bonnie was amazing and after shuffling stuff around she got us into a room. We gather our things, and moved. It was late at this point, so we got to the room and went to sleep. The next couple days we weren't in the room very much because we were out exploring. However we did notice how ill-maintained the bathroom was. Wholes in the baseboards, shower had a huge crack in the wall, paint was cracked and peeling all over. The water pressure in the shower was close to a slow leak. We were highly unimpressed. The noise from the guest at the pool went well into the early morning. There was no phone in the room, to side lamps in the room which made seeing things pretty difficult, the 12 inch (and I'm not exaggerating) tv barely worked, there's a chair in the room with stains sprinkled all over the cushion, and the room came with only two towels. So on our last night... I got up out of bed to use the bathroom and nearly stepped on something. I grabbed my phone for the flashlight and to my disgust there was a giant cockroach on the rug. I had to use a cup to trap it and get it out of the room. Gross. When I get myself to the restroom there was another one! I caught it under the cup, and then ANOTHER crawled across the floor!! Then it rushed into one of the wholes on the baseboards! I quickly got rid of the roach under the cup, and shoved all the dirty towels in front of the whole in the baseboard. I got very little sleep that night, and couldn't wait to leave the next day. Bonnie was the only good thing that came from this hotel!!! Love her. Sorry Chateau Hotel, your beauty from the outside failed in comparison to what you held inside.

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay here, but it wasn't without some issues that you need to be aware of. The good: -staff was great in all of our interactions -coffee in the lobby was outstanding (more important than you realize on a long weekend in NOLA) -location is fantastic, close to Jackson square but in a pretty quiet area (except for the Lil Wayne video that was filmed right outside our room one morning, which was very cool and not at all the hotel's fault). -The pool and courtyard area were great, clean and quaint The bad: (and not really all that terrible) -The room key was a real, old key. They threatened to charge a $50 fee for a lost key. That was a little stressful on a party weekend -The room. Our room was on the ground level on a side street. It opened directly onto the street and by the old, double doors, it used to be a storage closet for lawn supplies or something. The doors were a bit of an issue as we already didn't feel very secure being right on the sidewalk. There are two sets of double doors, the outer is the only one that locked (only 1 would open as the slide bolt at the top of one side didn't want to budge). These outer doors were solid wood, no windows, no seal. The inner doors would not stay closed, no way to lock them. They had windows but like I said, since they constantly popped back open, they were basically decorative. Since these were garden storage type doors, they obviously didn't lock on your own so you had to use the key to lock them. One of those things you take for granted at hotels but is a real pain when you don't have it. The room itself was a windowless cave. Relatively clean, good bathroom with lots of water pressure. We weren't there to spend time in the room so this didn't bother me. The security issues are my main reason for the star rating and had it been my two sisters staying there without me, I would never have allowed it (they wouldn't have anyway, not that I am a bodyguard or anything, lol). We were supposed to have a courtyard room, but they had 2 rooms flood and they were in the process of drying out, although the courtyard is never locked either. All in all, perhaps a different room would have totally changed my impression. I'd consider staying again but I'd make sure I knew exactly where in the hotel our room was located.

Yelp
Great location. Over 200 years old. Beautiful courtyard with pool and fountain. Rooms modest and comfortable. Attractively priced. Staff very attentive and helpful Will stay here again when in NOLA. Jim Fitch Winter Park, FL

Yelp
Chateau Hotel is decent. The building is very picturesque with a lovely courtyard with plants, a fountain, and patio seating. It was too chilly while we were there to use the pool but it looked nice. We had a balcony room that opened onto St. Philip Street. It is centrally located and a very quick walk to everything in the French Quarter. The hotel has a few flaws though and looks a little dumpy on the inside. Our room was very small, old worn carpet, nothing special in the decor. The room did not live up to the charm of the historic building. Multiple things were a little off. There was mold on the ceiling, no thermostat, shower must be run for 5-10 minutes to get hot water, shades are missing pull cords and would not open, no extra blankets. Our room looked a little neglected. The continental breakfast was disappointing. Croissants, boxed cereal, milk, coffee, tea, orange juice, muffins, yogurt, granola, and apples. Some days these ran out fast, so there would be no milk for the cereal. Not great. The food quality was slightly worse than your average gas station meal. But it was free so whatever. Our bathroom was restocked with towels daily but not actually cleaned. The sink would still be dirty. New towels and emptying out the wastebasket seem to be the only cleaning that was done. We did not have our sheets changed even once in the six nights we were there. Paying for parking is necessary as we learned the first day after getting our car towed after parking on the street. That runs at $35 per day. I can forgive a lot of faults because the building and courtyard were very French Quarter. It was livable and its problems were nowhere near bad enough to warrant leaving or crying yourself to sleep over as some other reviewers apparently did. The hotel could do with a bit more care in simple things to make it really nice but really, it was fine.

Yelp
It was ok. I think people that stay in these old hotels near the French quarter should expect they will be old. The staff was friendly, the location is awesome. It's in the more quiet part of the French quarter. I think the experience depends on where your room is in this hotel. If you are staying near the pool or on the second stories I'm sure it's nice. We were on the ground floor with an entrance right by the entrance to the hotel. We were facing the street so we had a bit of street noise (garbage trucks, people, etc). I also had a small cockroach in my room, which didn't surprise me since the buildings are old. Our room wasn't anything special, comfy enough bed, very bare minimum bathroom. We were at the Hyatt by the super dome Sunday-Thursday and there Thurs and Friday. I was okay with the fact that our shorter stay was here. I dunno if I would stay again, I might try another place in the quarter or the Hyatt again.

Yelp
Wonderful New Orleans feel. Conveniently located near Bourbon Street and Jackson Square. Friendly workers - day desk manager a little cranky. They valet park your car for you - at time of my visit, I was promised no charge for AAA members, but alas, $23 was charged to my credit card later. Friendly bellhop took our considerable luggage to the room. Pleasant accommodations, a little cramped, but everything worked fine. We were on the 1st floor facing Chartres - a bit noisy til 3:00am with revelers and traffic. Noisy garbage trucks started at 4:30 am! So you might want to request the back courtyard - off the street. Bed is very high! We are short people and found it challenging to get into bed. Smoking is not allowed in the room, however, just steps away is a lovely courtyard and pool area with bistro tables and chairs.

Yelp
BEWARE!!! Weak water pressure, long time for shower to heat up, nats everywhere, cancellation policy charges 800+/day. Appears as an "amazing" deal on most travel websites but I'm pretty sure the price is just hiked up so by the time it is adjusted for the package price, it's still overpriced for what you're getting. BE WARNED!!!

Yelp
We will not stay here again. We had a room called "the Penthouse " This was a very poorly kept, sparse room. The smoke detector in our room was missing, the one and only window was painted shut, being 4 sets of stairs up we would not have any way out if there were a fire. Our toilet was plugged, we asked them 3 times in one day to fix it, but they never came. The only good thing I can say is that the cleaning staff did a great job refreshing our room everyday.

Yelp
We stayed here for our honeymoon. It left much to be desired. Don't expect to check in early because they'll have you sit there until check in time. $150 deposit on just the room key which was weird to me but ok. Our room was right on the street which seemed cool at first but is rather loud at night and the wooden French doors don't give off much of a safe feel. The room next door was adjoined and could see under our door. One night they tried to open the doors for a few minutes like they didn't know we were there. Room service never knocks and will just open the door and walk in which I did not like. Also the a/c the first night was great. After that it got warmer every night with no way to control it. Also no WiFi so don't expect it and no vending machines or anything if you just want a drink one night. Location is great but that's about it. Pretty mediocre place honestly.

Yelp
Literally no WiFi, the neighboring rooms can see under your door. So hope you're quiet and they are too. Cockroaches everywhere, and unhelpful staff. Ruined our honeymoon.

Yelp
Chateau Hell No... So we get here and they want $50 to park...I was told $35, but ok. Then we get to the room and there are no washcloths and we're told they don't have any until tomorrow morning . Then we turn on the hot water and it's ice cold . They say we can fix it...30 minutes later lukewarm water. .

Yelp
My first stay in New Orleans. JetBlue offered a vacation package with round trip flights and the Chateau hotel for a reasonable price. After reading dozens of negative and subpar reviews on the hotel, I knew it couldn't be as bad as everyone was making it to be. I'm not a habitual traveler but I know it also depends on how a person is use to traveling. The concierge was very nice even though a customer they were dealing with upon my arrival was rude to them and blaming them for a parking ticket. They offered me a bunch of free water bottles since it was hot out. My room was clean, shower water was nice pressure and hot. The AC was on super high and incredibly freezing in my room but I love to be cold so it was perfect for me. Another friendly person in concierge suggested several great places to eat in the area on a map. The bed was firm and comfy. The pool smelled clean of chlorine and the temperature was nice. I only had housekeeping 1 time in the four days i've been there but she did change my towels that time. No one interrupted me when I had the "do not disturb" sign. Bottom line: If you're looking for updated amenities and free breakfast with elevators and climate control rooms, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for elegant French decor, sleeping in a former mansion and have a no fuss/ no frills attitude that likes to be a decent distance away from all the noise of bourbon street, this is the place for you! You get what you pay for! I would return.

Yelp
Let's start with the best thing about this hotel is the location. Pretty center in the French Quarter which allows you to walk to a few spots. Now for the rest. The room is quite small even for two people. By the time you have your bags and yourselves there is not a lot of space. I ended up placing my bag on the bed at times just to make some room while getting dressed. The balcony is a nice bonus though with a view of the street. Bring some earplugs because you are close to Bourbon street and it is quite loud even at 4 in the morning from the street sweepers. Our iron didnt work and at times it took a while to get someone to bring us a new one and more tissue. We also had ants in the bathroom because no one came to clean our room and they came from the outside to the garbage can. The staff tried to help at times but there was no other rooms they could place us in and it appeared there were short staffed. For checkout they kept knocking on the door rushing us out which was quite interesting. Fastest they ever came for any other issue we had while staying there. Would I chose this hotel again. No! Other option. Not worth the money or hassle. Looks nice on the outside but the rooms need total remodels. There was MOLD!!! There was a huge patch on the ceiling and no light. We had to open all the blinds and take off the lightshade just to see around the room. When the rooms are so small light should not be a problem. The rooms need an entire upgrade. Cracks etc in the wall. These issues are way past the historical charm. I will choose another hotel next time I come to NO.

Yelp
Well, my Priceline good luck streak has ended. I was trying to lowball a hotel in the French Quarter, and joke's on me, they sent me to Chateau Hotel. Upon first arrival I was cautiously optimistic about the place. Sure, as a number of old homes surrounding a courtyard, converted into one hotel property, it was unlike any place I'd stayed before, but it had a certain charm. Our room was immediately off the swimming pool and had a nice table and chairs right outside the door. I relaxed a bit, thinking we were getting shabby chic. Nope, all we got was shabby. First impression when the French doors opened to our room? That's it? This is easily the smallest hotel room I have ever rented, smaller than anything in New York, SF, London or any other place where space is at a premium. Imagine about two feet of walking space around a queen size bed, and that's what you've got. (Since I mentioned the bed, I will say it was quite comfortable, as were the pillows. That's the only saving grace.) The floor is tile, making it quite cold to step on once you're out of bed. And then you have the bathroom. Just look at the pic posted of the "bathtubs". I have worked in commercial kitchens with sinks that would hold more volume. No human adult is fitting in that tub. The shower had terrible pressure, and it seemed to think that when you turned the knobs, you were simply suggesting a water temp you might enjoy, and wanted to surprise you with constant shots of hot and cold. When you turn the water off, all the plumbing shakes. The toilet doesn't flush unless you stand there and hold the handle. And the toiletries were a joke. Another joke? The "continental breakfast" that they serve. This ended up being one danish, a piece of fruit, fruit-flavored drink (i wouldn't call it "juice") and bad coffee. The pastry probably came from Costco, the fruit was bruised and gross. Plus one day they just didn't deliver it to us, with no explanation. And then there's the noise. The wall separating our room from the courtyard was paper thin, and the staff would be just obnoxiously loud right outside. Maybe 8 AM in a French Quarter hotel with shitty walls isn't the time to drag wrought iron tables across the pavement? We're trying to sleep in here! Plus, random groups of tourists will just mosey into the courtyard and shriek about how pretty it is, and how they can't believe how quiet it is. Irony, your name is the drunk sorority girl from Alabama. Some of the staff was friendly. Others no. One maid knocked on our door, asking if we wanted to have our room cleaned that day. Um, yes? Do your job, don't ask my permission to have a lazy Sunday. WHEW! That was a lot of complaining. I feel better. Let me end by saying that the location of this hotel is excellent, and we were able to be in Jackson Square or on Bourbon within minutes, and a walk to Frenchman was probably only 10 minutes. Also, this part of the Quarter is relatively tame, so you're not likely to get puked on. Still, a good location is for me not enough of a reason to ever, EVER come back to Chateau Hotel.

Yelp
This hotel lost its appeal A LONG TIME ago. I was excited and looking forward to staying here due to my memories of it 10 years ago. I CLEARLY recall the ambiance and guests being A LOT more refine than what it has become. I see the hotel managers dubs it charming, to me that is a scape goat answer to excuse it being run down. Maintenance is OVERDUE. We were given a stuffy and moldy windowless room at first. We are now riding out our stay as they changed us to a nicer room after complaining but it is not worth the money. The one star is ONLY for the southern hospitality received from the bellman.
