Chateau Léoville Poyferré

We were absolutely blown away by the hospitality at this Chateau. Christian was so welcoming and down to earth, it was such a breath of fresh air from a few of the other Chateau, that could care less if you were there or not. If you are making a visit to the Left Bank, this should be at the absolute top of your list. The wine has always been phenomenal, but when you have staff with a passion for their job like this, you have a customer for life. Merci Beaucoup Christian!

Excellent private vertical tasting session with matching charcuterie and cheese platter each. We tried 2008, 2009 (Robert Parker 100 points) and 2010 (double stainless steel tank). The tour of the winery was excellent and the lady explained the histories, interesting family stories and the whole wine making process from hand picking grapes, sorting tables, fermentation, barrel selections, racking etc. We have learnt a lot and appreciate the wine differently now. We had the opportunity to taste the actual grapes from 4 different varieties as well which used in their blends and we really understood how to distinguishing different grape varieties by looking at the leaves. Charcuteries and cheeses matched the wine perfectly; we both particularly loved the curred smoked duck! It was so delicious! Merchants and wine are available to purchase from their retail store and we took home the 2010 vintage. Reservation is definitely recommended and they only have a very small amount of private booking available. We had our private guide Guillaume arranges everything for us.

Blown away by the experience at Léoville Poyferré. Chris who did our tour was incredible and so knowledgeable. You can tell he is genuinely passionate about his work and the wines. We asked Thomas (our tour guide) to speed the tour so we could get to the tasting sooner. We spent more time asking him questions due to his engaging personality and the interesting overall tour. We really enjoyed this and the wines are all fantastic. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

Excellent winery, worth a visit. Great wines and very well managed tour that ends with a 3 wine tasting. Also, some good insights about how to identify each type of grape. They ship abroad.

My husband and I reserved the summer rooftop terrace lunch in early August. We were blown away by how hospitable, generous, and friendly the staff was. We were actually stuffed from the charcuterie board and dessert. This place is so peaceful and has amazing wines (my fav from the left bank) -- you won't be disappointed!

This chateau was they highlight of my Bordeaux trip. I booked the cheese and wine pairing tour in English. I was fortunate enough to have Lori as my guide since we are both from California. It worked out to my favor that I was the only one for the tour which made it even more personable. Lori was very well versed with wine and is very knowledgeable. I highly recommended this Chateau and it is well worth the beautiful drive up north.

During a recent Viking River Cruises, we took many excursions through various vineyards and chateau areas. They were all interesting and beautiful with wonderful Bordeaux wines...but my favorite one was Chateau Leoville Poyferre. Its location on the GIronde Estuary lets it take advantage of the pebbly earth that regulates soil temperature. We toured its cellars and tasted three of their very fine wines with some fine cheese too. In addition to the very fine wines, they had amazing facilities for all the processes as well as a large special event center and beautiful buildings and grounds. The guided tour walks you through the fermentation facilities, as well as the barrel aging areas. It is definitely worth the time, and the tasting is excellent. In addition to their massive vineyards and fabulous history of serious Grand Cru wines, I found their guide to be fun and very friendly, and offered a great educational experience. I visited several vineyards and wineries during my vacation in the Bordeaux wine region, but in my opinion, none could compare to this one in quality, pleasure, and total experience. I highly recommend a tour of Chateau Leoville-Poyferre!
