I recently stayed at Chateau on the Park - Christchurch, a DoubleTree by Hilton, for a short trip, and overall, my experience was a mix of positives and negatives. The room was quite nice and comfortable, though it did feel a little dated and could use some refreshing. On the other hand, the lobby and garden areas were beautiful — they really gave the property a charming, relaxing atmosphere.
I appreciated the thoughtful gesture of a birthday cake and macarons during my stay, which was a lovely surprise — the macarons were delicious, though the cake itself wasn’t to my taste.
The location, however, was a bit inconvenient, with limited access to nearby restaurants or shops. While the hotel is right across from Hagley Park and close to Christchurch Botanic Gardens — a big plus for nature lovers — getting to other parts of the city took some extra effort.
As a Gold member, I was disappointed that the complimentary bottled water wasn’t provided in the room. When I asked about it, the staff response made me feel slightly uncomfortable, as if my question wasn’t justified. Another small issue was the breakfast — there were two different types available, which made the process a bit confusing at first.
All in all, it’s a property with both strengths and weaknesses: lovely aesthetics and thoughtful gestures, but also a few service and convenience gaps that could be improved.
