Best Bordeaux Wineries to Visit

"One of Graves' most highly regarded estates for both its red and white wines, Pape Clément is among the most accommodating of Bordeaux's grand châteaux (among other things, it is the relatively rare cellar open on Sundays). The visitors' staff offers a menu of tours, tastings, classes, and even overnight stays at the château, which can be customized to your needs. chateau-pape-clement.fr" - Food & Wine Editors

Disappointing Tour and Tasting Experience While the location and setting are undeniably beautiful and full of potential, the overall experience fell short. The tour group was much too large, making it difficult to engage or enjoy the visit fully. Unfortunately, the guide’s English proficiency was limited, which affected the clarity and depth of the information shared. Additionally, there was no terrace or suitable space to properly enjoy the wine and cheese tasting. A lovely venue, but the experience needs significant improvement to meet expectations.

Beautiful chateau, but the tour itself was just okay — the group was too large to hear the guide clearly, and it felt overpriced for what was offered. They don’t even have the charming underground wine cellars one might expect. The tasting, although done standing, was still enjoyable.

We did a wine tasting and tour of the grounds, Daniela was our guide and did an excellent job explaining the history of the vineyard and the winemaking process making our experience great! The chateau is beautiful and we got to explore the gardens on our own as well while enjoying some wine after the tour was over. Overall a great experience!

Our visit to Château Pape Clément was great — a perfect blend of history, elegance, and hospitality. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in the serene beauty of the estate, where centuries-old vines whisper stories of tradition and passion. The guided tour was both informative and intimate, revealing the meticulous care behind each bottle. Tasting their wines was a true highlight—each sip rich with character, complexity, and the unmistakable soul of Bordeaux.

We did the "Tour and Tasting – in the footsteps of Pape Clément". It was more expensive than the other tours, but well worth the cost. Eloise was our guide and she was AMAZING. I asked how long she'd been there because she had so much knowledge of the estate, and the processes (only 9 months). She was a fantastic guide! We then took advantage of the free tasting after the tour and met several other couples and had so much fun. They let you stay as long as you like.

We had a private tasting here for 2 and were so impressed! Making the reservation online was simple and when we arrived, we were blown away by the beauty of this chateau. Benjamin was our guide and he gave us a thorough tour of the property, the vines and the history. Excellent sense of humor and wonderful guide. We had a tasting of 6 wines paired with cheese and a helpful presentation. Afterwards, we were free to pour ourselves more wine and sit outside. Great wines and great atmosphere! The property has a very gorgeous cellar and wine making room. It definitely lived up to the hype and we will be back!

3 Stars - Beautiful Setting and Great Wines, but Disappointed by Management Behavior The location is stunning and the wines are truly impressive — I was excited to visit and enjoy the experience. However, my time at the winery was overshadowed by the behavior of the guys there long hair. While I was treated rudely, what stood out even more was how this guy spoke to the staff — it felt intimidating and uncomfortable to witness. It made the environment feel tense rather than welcoming. It’s unfortunate because everything else was wonderful. I hope the owner takes a closer look at how leadership is affecting both guests and employees. With a more respectful tone at the top, this place could truly be exceptional.
