Best Bordeaux Wineries to Visit

"One of Graves' most highly regarded estates for both its red and white wines, Pape Clément is among the most accommodating of Bordeaux's grand châteaux (among other things, it is the relatively rare cellar open on Sundays). The visitors' staff offers a menu of tours, tastings, classes, and even overnight stays at the château, which can be customized to your needs. chateau-pape-clement.fr" - Food & Wine Editors

Disappointing Tour and Tasting Experience|While the location and setting are undeniably beautiful and full of potential, the overall experience fell short. The tour group was much too large, making it difficult to engage or enjoy the visit fully. Unfortunately, the guide’s English proficiency was limited, which affected the clarity and depth of the information shared. Additionally, there was no terrace or suitable space to properly enjoy the wine and cheese tasting. A lovely venue, but the experience needs significant improvement to meet expectations.

What a lovely experience to do the 90 minute tour with Daniele. We started in the beautiful gardens of the estate and then we visited the cellars. The wine tasting was superb! We purchased 6 bottles and left very content. I highly recommend a visit to this chateau if you are visiting the Bordeaux region. Can I please rate with 6 stars? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We did the winemaker workshop at Château Pape Clément, and it was the best thing we did in Bordeaux! Daniela (shoutout to Daniela, she’s amazing!) was our personal guide. Since there wasn’t anyone else in our workshop, it ended up being just my partner and me, so we had a private tour of the entire château. We were also very lucky to catch the last glimpse of grapes on the vines right before the harvest. The entire tour lasted about two hours, starting from the shop entrance, then through the garden, the vines, the vat and cellar, and finally making our own blend of wine. The whole customer journey was clearly planned very deliberately and thoughtfully. Daniela was very knowledgeable and detailed in her explanation (she has a master’s degree in wine) when she walked us through the history of the château, the grapes on the vines, the winemaking process in the vat etc. She also guided us with very clear instructions during the tasting and wine making session. Both my partner and I felt like we had never been to any wine tasting session anywhere else that is so detailed. We had lots of fun here, and this workshop was absolutely worth it!

Beautiful chateau, but the tour itself was just okay — the group was too large to hear the guide clearly, and it felt overpriced for what was offered. They don’t even have the charming underground wine cellars one might expect. The tasting, although done standing, was still enjoyable.

We did a wine tasting and tour of the grounds, Daniela was our guide and did an excellent job explaining the history of the vineyard and the winemaking process making our experience great! The chateau is beautiful and we got to explore the gardens on our own as well while enjoying some wine after the tour was over. Overall a great experience!

Our visit to Château Pape Clément was great — a perfect blend of history, elegance, and hospitality. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in the serene beauty of the estate, where centuries-old vines whisper stories of tradition and passion. The guided tour was both informative and intimate, revealing the meticulous care behind each bottle. Tasting their wines was a true highlight—each sip rich with character, complexity, and the unmistakable soul of Bordeaux.

Grounds truly are beautiful. That's all. The room was packed with literally about 20 people. Most of which had their own conversations while the poor lady tried to speak. I've never had such a large tasting group. Would've been fine had the wines been good. The white was fine, they usually are but the cheap red, though it smelled quite nice, tasted exactly like smoked salmon. Couldn't drink it. It then jumps from $15 to $100 for their premiere which is fine but not something I would buy over a table wine at Carrefour. Super meh, had it been free, would've been less angry but still disappointed with the wine here.

We did the "Tour and Tasting – in the footsteps of Pape Clément". It was more expensive than the other tours, but well worth the cost. Eloise was our guide and she was AMAZING. I asked how long she'd been there because she had so much knowledge of the estate, and the processes (only 9 months). She was a fantastic guide! We then took advantage of the free tasting after the tour and met several other couples and had so much fun. They let you stay as long as you like.
