Up until today, my partner and I had the best time exploring all over New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, staying everywhere from Airbnb's to lovely B&Bs and camping under the stars. We visited and supported many restaurants and establishments. For our last night we decided to get a hotel in St. John within a short drive from the ferry. I've stayed in a Wyndham hotel before and had a great experience; and this hotel offered a bar - one of my favs!!!
The staff at first were great, two staff members mentioned the hotel bar would be open until midnight. Great ! We went to dinner- albeit the hotel wasn't really walking distance to other spots, this wasn't the hotels fault . Came back and was told at 8pm the bar wasn't open due to no staff being available. Even though LITERALLY the front desk person , and another staff member, said it would be open. We were pretty bummed and decided to go with a bottle of wine.. what should have been $10 was $25. The front desk recommended a real shitty dive bar we didn't want to go to at all. Got upstairs to our room where we noticed a huge black grease stain on the floor outside, all of the lamps unplugged in our room, the air wouldn't turn off. Decided to look for a movie to watch but we didn't want to pay $25 fucking dollars for it. The last straw was to watch something on my laptop ; wifi was free but BARELY working . When I called about this, the front desk clerk was absolutely less than apologetic . "Yeah, people have complained , it's just worse if you're higher up in the building." (We we're on the 4th floor). Now I'm not honestly one to complain. But this was a last straw, especially the total lack of apology. I expressed how disappointed we were in this stay and she didn't seem to care and kept saying "ok" after every word I said. She offered to move us but it was 10pm at this point and I didn't want to deal with that. Definitely just go somewhere else, NOT here. I've never stayed in such a worse hotel .
