As part of our recent western Val de Loire tour (south of Angers) we stayed at the Château Soucherie B&B on April 24 & 25. We stayed in the maison des amis which is in the grounds of the domaine, next door to the château itself. Our room (Chambre Chaume) was on the first floor (top left when looking from the outside car park). The room was very comfortable and well equipped with a great view of the domain. Our stay included, a tour of the wine producing area (cave), an overview of the different cépages grown in the Soucherie domaine and a dégustation, were all included in our package - you can match these cépages to the different wines produced here via the château's website (boutique). One example is the Chenin grape. We know the Chenin cépage quite well since it forms a significant part of the Val de Loire wine production, although it can be less well known elsewhere. We've tried Chenin wines in many places in the region. However, we thought the Soucherie Chenin based wines were certainly amongst the best we've tasted. A good touch is also the ability to tour the domaine on foot - depending on how fast you walk this can be around 40-60 minutes. This is a great walk - a tip - maybe for later in the day as it can be a bit wet early morning! Finally, a few words on catering. A good breakfast is included, perfect for a days' touring afterwards. If you want to eat in the evening there's a small kitchen available or there are several restaurants but for these you will need to drive between 4 and 20 km. We ate out the first evening and bought some local produce in Saumur for our second evening's meal washed down with some local wine. Overall, the Château Soucherie B&B is a very nice place to stay and visit - so many thanks to the very friendly and competent staff. We can recommend this place.
