I’ll break down my review into three parts:
1. The rooms and interior
2. The food (both breakfast and dinner)
3. The garden
1. Rooms and Interior
The rooms and interior were interesting. It seems the owner is trying to balance guest comfort with preserving the original charm of the place. This is not a luxurious stay, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
We stayed in the double room with garden view (as listed on Booking.com), also called the Gothic Room on the hotel’s website. The room felt a bit run-down. The bathtub is essentially a hole in the ground and would be better described as a shower. The bed was narrow and quite firm, and there were no branded toiletries, just some leftover body wash and shampoo from the supermarket. I didn’t mind that, since I always bring my own anyway.
I really liked the overall design and the furnishings, it. There was a beautiful vanity, lots of mirrors and different lamps.
One issue was the shower water spreading everywhere, since there was no curtain. The entire bathroom, and even part of the sleeping area, ended up getting wet. Next time, I would definitely choose a different room, with either separate shower or bathtub.
2. Food
Dinner was absolutely delicious. The cuisine is Italian, as the owner is Italian, and they had no problem making it vegetarian for me. 10 out of 10.
I had a cheese plate for the appetizer, spaghetti with mozzarella sauce and cherry tomatoes, followed by mashed potatoes, salad, and grilled vegetables. Dessert was a chocolate “bomb” filled with cream and red currant jam. The dinner costs 1,150 CZK per person, which is a bit on the higher side, but for us, it was definitely worth it.
Breakfast was a buffet with a decent selection of cheese, eggs, cereal, and vegetables. It was okay, but I wasn’t too impressed. At 350 CZK per person, I didn’t feel it offered great value.
3. Garden
The garden is absolutely beautiful. There are plenty of roses, fruit trees, wildflowers that attract bees and insects, and various pieces of art and sculpture scattered around the grounds. You’re free to wander the entire property, with open doors connecting all the different spaces. We even stumbled upon the two cutest little dogs during our walk through the garden 🥹
There’s also a convenient parking spot available in the shed located in the garden area past the main gate, which was great to have.
A special mention to Jamal, who takes care of the guests. He was absolutely wonderful throughout our stay and made us feel very welcome.
Overall
Our stay was wonderful. It was a charming mix of authentic, quirky, and thoughtful. I would definitely like to return in the future to see how the owners continue to develop the château.
