Chater's

I’d made a note of Chaters after seeing Jamie Oliver mention their pastries on instagram, as I knew we’d be visiting Saffron Walden in the coming months. Well I guess we were a little disappointed to find there were no pastries left and it was a lunch menu only. Needless to say our lunch was still excellent. The quality of ingredients and presentation was sublime. Our waiter was fantastic and they accommodated our fussy three-year old with her request of spaghetti and tomato sauce. I loved the atmosphere in here, nice chilled not too loud music, and surprisingly comfortable. I thought it was reasonably priced for the quality of food too. (We also had delicious bread, not pictured.)

Loved everything about this place! Staff are incredibly friendly and food was divine. We wanted to try everything on the menu so another trip will be planned in the near future.

We found the food no less than mind-blowing. We had a few piccoli; the labneh butternut and gorgonzola broccoli were especially satisfying. We enjoyed the pork shoulder and carbonara pasta very much. The tiramisu was as good as it gets and the torta caprese delicious. The staff were knowledgeable about the dishes and all strove to make us feel at home. We got lost and were really late, but appreciated the trouble they took to make it possible to have our lunch despite being fully booked out. The atmosphere in the bar area is industrial, which works there. We live an hour away, but we will be back.

We had a great lunch. Really good negronis to start with, beef tartare was very tasty and venison terrine . Then pasta with very tasty ragout and halibut with warm tartare sauce which was brilliant. A glass of wine each and then A piece of Italian cake yo share a two double espressos. Great friendly service. It was completely full with a lovely buzz of everyone having a good time. Well done everyone. A great team.

Went as a group of 4 adults and a toddler and they were brilliant throughout. Super service. Some fantastic dishes - leeks, squash, mussels pasta all unbelievably good. We heard so much about the bread and were not disappointed. Gorgeous. Tiramisu by far the best dessert and worth a try - even if full (which we were!). If you're into food, and sharing, there is nowhere better here in Saffron Walden.

We almost stumbled into this wonderful place in the lovely town, walking over from Audley End. Super friendly staff. Great dishes. A very hipster atmosphere. A great surprise and absolutely worth the money - expecially the pasta and the Tiramisu!

We had the most beautiful lunch! I dined here with two friends and it felt like we ordered everything on the menu, but not a single thing was less than perfect. Diego was helpful, charming and knowledgable. Service all round was relaxed but attentive, and the martini is banging.

I love Chater’s. There’s always a great atmosphere inside. The pastries are exceptional. I want to try them all. The coffee is fantastic… and I’m quite fussy about coffee. Best of all every single member of staff (and owner) is a gem. So friendly and attentive. They make you feel so welcome.
