When sharing the joy and luxury of a stay at the Chatham Inn, I find myself wondering about the owners of this Inn. I am grateful for their commitment to the environment and their thoughtful, careful business decisions. Each component of the stay was centered around comfort and warmth. Breaking down the entire experience will help you understand just what you are getting when you stay at a Relais and Chateaux branded Inn.
Breakfast
Each morning, instead of a continental breakfast, we were treated to a dining room service style breakfast. Since the Inn is smaller, every person staying in a room will walk past the dining room area. This centralization makes the transition from waking up to served breakfast very easy. We tried the 2 eggs breakfast, which featured a hash brown that I can only describe as having the shape of a golden fried potato flavored hockey puck. The level of detail the chef has put into crafting this hash brown makes it stand out. I advise you come here just for the hash brown!
Welcome Cocktails
Though I could write another 3 paragraphs about merely the potatoes in our breakfast, I should focus on other things. Our stay included a welcome cocktail at the Chatham Inn bar, which is a cozy, modern bar with liquors, beers, and various other beverages. Our room also included a medium sized bottle of prosecco, too.
The Rooms
We chose a room with a natural gas fireplace. The fireplace was not working right, and the staff addressed the issue right away. They let us know that when we are away for the day, they will work on repairing the fireplace. We left for some exploring and when we came back, it was fully functioning. Staff and maintenance were polite and highly responsive. Other rooms have wood fireplaces, but because of allergy concerns, the natural gas fireplace was chosen in stead.
The rooms are cozy, with ours having a desk, a television, and some cozy sofa chairs. The bathroom was luxurious. The bed was comfortable and cloudlike. Inside of the room was a tanned leather bound handbook. This included some instructions for different things in the room, the inn, and the town. *Please read this handbook to figure out how to use the shower faucet.*
The Inn
Plenty of parking should be available, but be cautious if you are going there as a bar or restaurant patron, it might be hard to find parking on a busy day. If you are staying at the Inn, there is a trail behind the Inn that shares outdoor space with Mill Pond, a small body of water behind the Inn. Inside the main room with concierge is a space for getting coffee, tea, or the 3 main kinds of water, room temp, hot, or bubbly.
The Staff
After coming to this Inn, I am going to reflect on how I can be a more polite person, because the genuine care of the people that work there was evident. We shared of a walk that we took that was long (to us), and a staff member shared in our excitement, it was a sweet moment!
The Breakfast
Please pretend that I wrote 3 more paragraphs about that hash brown. Seriously, it was delicious.
The End
I will be coming back here for another trip! Take in mind that all of this happened in the off season, and a busier time closer to the summer should change some expectations as more people are in Chatham. But I hope you enjoy every moment, especially the potatoes!
