looking at the menu months before, I marked this restaurant as a must try. Reviews on yelp marked their hh as a must try, but for me it was terrible. My friends had the prix fixe and the entrees, while I tried the le petite menu. The miso wings, recommended by the waiter, tasted like regular wings and were VERY tiny. The ribs were pretty good. But that's all I could say about this place.
Won't come back again.

this may be the best food you've ever had within 20 ft. of a major hospital. with creative california cuisine but with an asian flare, this place never fails to satisfy. get anything with fish, but beware of the loud jazz band on certain nights. they can drown out any drop of conversation no matter how loud or how drunk it may be.

We went for Mother's Day dinner tonight, there was 20 of us, it started out being a great night. At first we had a waitress, don't remember her name but she was a gem.
As the night went on things started declining, because we were such a large group we had a set menu so the kitchen and the staff should have been prepared because the options were limited. Our waitress changed from a waitress to a waiter and he was horrible and so rude. Our food was horrible, the steaks and fish all came out rare and NO ONE ordered rare, the pastas came out cold. The waiter was rude about making corrections and forgot to bring people's food out when they took it back. When the fish came back out they were still rare, it had seemed like they just microwaved it. So people sent it back again but this time around we told the waiter to not even bring them out again. And at the end of all this not one apology was given.
I will admit the dessert which was the chocolate bread pudding was good, that's what gets my one star.
When the bill came not only were we over charged by the amount of people at the table but they also added things to bill that we never ordered and acted as if we never paid a deposit. When asked to speak to the manager he came out and was rude from the beginning. Greg who was the manager raised his voice and felt like he was being threatened when asked to fix the bill. Who yells at a young lady? I was shaking for a good 20 minutes because of the way he spoke to me. I hope Greg reads this so he knows how he made me feel, I felt threatened by the way he yelled at me.
So food sucked, service sucked, management sucked, ambiance was ok but got killed because of everything else.
Chaya lost 20 customers tonight and believe me I will tell everyone not to go here anymore, I now understand why this place is empty as much as it is.
Chaya maybe some new managers would do the trick.....

Nice environment, kind of dark. Located in a prime spot and walking distance from the Standard. Come during happy hour though if you want to get to try a bunch of their appetizers for less.

try hard to imitate Japanese food; service is also poor. Should change management again.

upscale asian fusion; good vibe, albeit somewhat stuffy
