8 Best Places to Eat in New York City's Flushing Chinatown - AFAR

"A recently opened bubble tea shop that elevates the category with handcrafted, floral-forward drinks—its fresh milk tea series blends ingredients like osmanthus petals and camelia, and its floral fruit tea features Wuyi Rock Lemon Tea—while inventive toppings such as highland barley and oatmeal popping beads add textural twists." - Rachel Chang

Finally stopped by to try it. They have a good selection of non milk and milk teas. I tried their new drink- Pistachio coconut peach ice tea. It was delicious. Really enjoyed all the components and the pistachio foam actually tastes like pistachio. The peach tea has good flavor and tea strength. Will have to come back to try more of their teas. Maybe one of their premium tea drinks that said is for tea drinkers. I’m a tea enthusiast but wanted to try their new drink this visit. There’s additional seating space upstairs as well as a bathroom which was nice. They have free WiFi as well which is a nice perk.

I don’t know why this tea place is so empty on a Friday, but honestly, their tea is amazing! The flavors are unique, especially with the touch of popping barley beads — healthy and such a fun twist that makes it stand out. There are plenty of seats upstairs, perfect for studying or getting some work done — something rare to find after COVID. If I weren’t rushing to work, I’d definitely stay longer. They have a great variety of teas, and my favorite so far is the Lychee Jasmine Tea — it pairs perfectly with the popping barley. The staff is attentive and patient with your needs. Definitely my new go-to tea spot

Love this bubble tea shop! Super cute decor and really nice packaging. The 20% off combo deal for a sandwich and drink is such a good deal! Drinks and food both taste great . Tried their new ginger lemon tea for this cold weather, feeling healthy and happy at the same time! And a small gift received after purchase the combo!!

Google
Chayann is a cozy, highly aesthetic boba spot specializing in floral teas. Enticed by the new boba spot in town and their Thanksgiving BOGO deal, we ordered the Osmanthus Milk Tea at the recommended 30% sugar level but it was still too sweet Sadly, the floral note was even more disappointing, instead of the subtle, tea like essence expected, the flavor felt artificial, resembling a strong, synthetic fragrance.

My friend was sweet enough to grab some bubble tea for us and bring it all the way to the city, so I can't speak to the instore experience but she said the service was super fast and easy! The packaging alone is super cute especially for the holidays, the cup and the to-go bag too. She got me the osmanthus milk tea with less ice and 50% sugar. I don't think they have nondairy milk so I had to talk a lactaid but whole milk can be so yummy - I missed it! The tea itself was very tea-y and s, I think I could've done even less sugar next time. I really enjoyed the flavor, not all places have osmanthus which I really like!

Google
Chayann is a boba shop with multiple different fruit options and lots of different specials such as Longan tea or apple tea. The service was quite quick, and they were offering free samples outside to try. We got an apple tea and a peach tea, both of which weren't too sweet and tasted good. For the price, the portion was good, and overall was pretty enjoyable.

Given the plethora of tea places on Prince Street, I think this place is slept on. They have a nice selection of tea options you won't find in other stores and the tea flavor still stands out when mixed with milk. But I think the best part is that they have space to sit and relax. They have an upstairs sitting area that reminds me of cafes in Asia. Chill, bright, relaxing. Almost like sitting in someone's home. I can imagine this would be a good place to cool off in the summer and warm up in the winter. Or maybe just to work on your laptop. Plus they have a nice clean bathroom for customers. Definitely give it a try.

Google
Omg. This is one of the most fantastic boba’s I have ever had. The oolong tea was amazinggggg and intricate on the flavours. The lychee iced tea was so refreshing. It’s a beautiful place with a really interesting menu. Unique bobas including popping oatmeal! Upstairs, seating feels like you are in a grandma’s living room - cozy.

Yelp
Another bubble tea place in Flushing on Prince St! The best part of this place is that it has an upstairs seating area. They also have a variety of different teas besides the normal ones you see around the block. Upon walking in, I was greeted by the cashier who recommended me some drinks based on what kind of drinks I like previously. I came in for the free lychee keychain when I purchased 2 lychee drinks, but I ended up trying something else. I love a strong Chinese hot tea at home so I was surprised when I saw they have Da Hong Pao Milk Tea. I ordered that without any toppings because they don't have herbal/grass jelly which is my usual go-to. It is just what I imagined. So good! Would definitely be back to try other drinks and possibly to study upstairs. They also have a restroom!

Yelp
As a Molly tea lover, this place is so good! They offer teas that not a lot of shops have, if any. My favorite is the Wuyi Rock Milk as someone who LOVES molly tea's white champaca it's the same level of deliciousness. I might prefer the Wuyi more since it's not as floral. I also got the Da Hong Pao Milk Tea, which was similar to the Wuyi but for some reason I prefer the Wuyi. My friend who loves tea recommended some sugar since it enhances the teas, so I got 30%. I usually get 0% everywhere else. The 30% was not too sweet, but I think I'll try 0% next time.

Yelp
Love their milk tea and their healthy topping options! It's light refreshing with a balanced milk and tea flavor! Bonus is that they have seating on the second floor which is extremely rate

Yelp
LOVE this spot in flushing! Finally a cafe where you can sit and do some work. -Their drinks are very comparable to Molly's tea -Great AC to beat the summer heat -Tons of natural light and it's pretty quiet upstairs -wifi and bathroom -has both tea and (small) coffee selection

Yelp
Great space for chit and chat and meeting up with friends. Available second story space for sitting down. Great taste of tea

Yelp
My sister got me their white peach oolong milk--so floral and fruity and milky. It was fragrant and light for a milk tea but plenty sweet.

Yelp
Really cute new boba spot in Flushing. Feel like boba shops need to do a lot to standout here given the plethora of options at every corner, but Chayann really holds its own here. With deep rich tea flavors, this spot is perfect for anyone who really wants authentic milk TEA and not just sugary flavored milk. Rather than standing out with floral flavors like Molly Tea (which I also love), Chayann shows the depth of its tea with a variety of distinct tea flavors such as Rose Pu'Er (which I've only ever had at dimsum) and Lapsang Souchong (sweeter and deeper than a regular black tea with milk). I like to reduce sugar to make the tea flavor standout more and would recommend the same to all friends that come! Service is also good and staff really tries to help you choose your optimal drink. Their English isn't the best so would recommend speaking in Chinese if you can!
google avatar

Nian Z.

Yelp
There are some more unique tea options (wuyi, lapsang) compared to some of the other places, and the taste is comparable to ones down the block - definitely will be back to try more to beat the summer heat. Especially love that there's a second floor and ample seating!

Yelp
Super fragrant and well decorated tea store! There are so many milk tea spots in Flushing but I really loved this place due to their impeccable customer service, cute interior, and upstairs seating. I ordered the: -Tease of Osmanthus Milk Tea, 30% sugar less ice. I love that the tea is fragrant and strong, very well brewed. Shoutout to the worker Oscar who was handing out samples outside of the store. We got to learn so much about Chayaan!! I will definitely come back

Yelp
Pretty cups & pretty decorations can be deceiving to the eyes from the outside. Another new milk tea spot near Prince Street in Flushing. Why does Main St need another milk tea spot anyway? Why are all these new milk tea spots opening week after week competing with each other for the best decorations? Fast service from helpful & polite staff. Downstairs has like a forest theme while the ambiance of the upper level is 10/10 with real flowers everywhere like an indoor garden, if only I can say the same for the flavor wise as well. Huge seating area with plenty of wooden tables and comfy chairs. Clean restroom on the upper level. This space is bigger than most other places with just a storefront. Can be a great spot for spending time alone, as a couple or with friends. Even though there're wall outlets, I couldn't seem to charge my phone because they're either blocked or not working at all. There's a LED screen both upstairs and downstairs showing customers what number they're currently up to for drink pickups - so you're not just waiting around for your order. Overheard the girls next to me saying that their drinks are overloaded with sweetness although getting 50% sugar. I'd ordered a White Peach Oolong Milk Tea (木兆) with 50% sugar + no ice. Thought the taste of mine is bland & diluted instead, as in the ratio of the milk had overpowered the tea (70% vs 30%). Sadly, its tea flavor is like a tint smh. Shouldn't have listened to the staff's recommendation for its sweetness. They could be potentially successful in the future. Hopefully we'll see more improvement from Chayann too. One thing they need to fix is definitely the paper menu. I think they should hire someone to proofread everything right away. It's quite embarrassing to have found 10+ English grammatical errors or misspelled words in general especially the address when it's the most important part to begin with smh. Very questionable as in "How have they not noticed any of them by the way?" But as of now, I don't recommend the drinks (e.g. unmemorable + pricy + bland but pretty). Save your money, go somewhere else. I don't know about the pressed sandwiches, so I can't voice my opinion since I didn't order that.

Yelp
This new beverage shop opened last week and emphasize their floral fresh milk tea products. We checked them out over the weekend and tried three different flavors. I think the Wuyi Rock Milk Tea and Lapsang Souchong Black Milk Tea were both excellent because you can really taste the tea. Iron Goddess Milk Tea was slightly weaker, but still very good. We ordered all drinks with less ice and 50% sugar level. Like most new tea shops, the packaging is wonderful. The paper cups itself is made of thick material, while the covers are made of quality hard plastic. The carry away bags are nicely designed and given to every take out order. They have two levels and the interior design is quite nice. Mostly white walls with green and floral accents. Second floor has a beautiful space with lots of seating and therefore a good place to meet a friend. I certainly will keep this spot in mind for future meetings in Flushing.

Yelp
We got their Apple Jasmine milk tea, tease of osmanthus milk tea, iron goddess milk tea. Staff is super nice and accommodating. Drinks are just ok. Nothing that stood out to me. Cafe is so cute, especially upstairs!

Yelp
Chayann is one of the newer bubble tea spots to open in downtown Flushing. They emphasize the quality of their teas and their specialty seems to be the wuyi rock milk tea and pu er. However I was in a fruit tea mood so I didn't get to try those yet. Instead I got their lychee Jasmine tea with lychee jelly, which is part of their limited time summer menu. It was extremely refreshing and had pieces of lychee in my drink. Their peach oolong tea was also quite fragrant and fruity. I really love the fact that they have a 2nd floor seating area for customer to enjoy their beverages, whereas most bubble tea stores are a hole in the wall. I will definitely return to try their specialties.

Yelp
There was surprisingly a lot of seating space upstairs It was thoughtfully decorated and reminded me of a tea party. We ordered the White Peach Oolong Milk Tea and Rose Rouge Pu'er Milk Tea. The peach flavor didn't taste artificially sweet. The rose milk tea was equally as good. While I wouldn't say the flavors stood out against floral and fruity milk teas I've had before, these were great milk teas that I would come back for. During the opening, there was a bit of a wait for our orders but there wasn't a line to order.

Yelp
Another new bubble tea in flushing, right now there is a buy one get one free grand opening deal. Interior is very nice and aesthetic, as soon as you walk in you get the smell of tea. Lots of seating compared to other bubble tea places, there's also a upstairs seating area. The aesthetic kind of gives me thai restaurant vibes for some reason. Service is decent, however the tea is very bitter. 70% sugar was recommended and the tea was not that good. Will give this place another chance in the future.

Yelp
price - $15 including tax food - 5/5 service - 5/5 ambiance - 5/5 AMAZING BOBA SHOP!!! i highly recommend trying this place out. i got the camellia oolong milk tea which was so refreshing and i could really taste the tea flavor! im usually not a fan of oolong milk tea but this was amazing! i also got the rose rouge puer milk tea which was so flavorful. the mixture of milk, tea and rose flavor really made it memorable. this is one of their highly recommended flavors as well! the service was amazing as they guided us through their menu and they also provided us with a free taste test of one of their drinks!! the ambiance was so chill and calming. you can definitely come here, get some boba and do some work if youre in the area :)

Yelp
I think this place just opened recently and there are a few chair to sit inside. I have strawberry jasmine tea. It was delicious. I wish they had small bites
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
Not too interested in the milk tea options. Similar to Molly tea. I'm not a fan of Molly tea. So didn't try anything milky today. But my lemon tea was very refreshing and the normal plain tea with no sugar was pretty good. Nothing too special about here but nothing terrible either. My review right now is currently for my two drinks I got. But can change depending on the milk tea I'll try next time. They have seating upstairs I didn't go up to see. But the staff was friendly.
google avatar

Irene L.

Yelp
I tried the jasmine milk tea for $6.99. It was very floral and it over powers the milk tea. I do like jasmine a lot but It is not for everyone. I did enjoy it. The staff are nice and they do speak minimal English.
google avatar

James L.

Yelp
Lots of seating upstairs. Tea is good, but seems like just another tea shop in flushing.
google avatar

Maryana A.

Yelp
Me and my friend are big fans of jasmine milk tea. We tried their jasmine milk tea and we thought it was okay. The good thing about this place is spacious compare to other milk tea store around Prince Street. They have 2nd floor for seating for customers enjoying their drinks. The bathroom is clean and they provide lotion, hair tie, hair pin, and cotton bud which reminds me of that famous hotpot place. Love the decoration, it's giving coquette Victorian era theme. Beautiful place!
google avatar

Yelp
New tea spot with seating on the second floor. I have a feeling this is gonna pop off as a place to hide from the summer heat Got their Iron Goddess Milk Tea with no sugar. The tea was strong without being bitter. A well brewed cup of tieguanyin- a floral, fruity aroma with roasted notes. Service is a bit slow but I think that's because they've just opened and still getting the hang of it.

Yelp
Stopped by on a rainy weekday so it wasnt too busy- had maybe 5-6 people online ahead of me or waiting for their drink. I think they only have 1 device to measure out the ingredients(?) so it looked a bit slow but didnt have to wait too long. And unlike the other milk tea places in flushing they have ample seating upstairs to sit and chat. I was instrigued by their special cups so I got only the ones in the special cups. From left to right got the Wu yi rock milk tea, peach ooling milk tea, jasmine milk tea & the rose puer milk tea- all at 50% sugar no ice which is usually how I order most teas. - Wuyi rock milk tea tastes like a standard milk tea in a good say. Nothing particularly special for the flavor but it was good and well balanced. Would get again maybe 3.5/5 - Peach Oolong is definitely the best of the bunch- lightly sweet and peachy but still had good tea flavor. 50% was the perfect level of sweetness and it was both milky but refreshing 4/5 - Jasmine was the one i was looking forward to most but also the most disappointing. I was hoping for a molly-esque experience but the drink was quite bitter and the tea itself tasted overbrewed. Had a good amount of jasmine flavor but the bitterness overpowered the whole thing. Having said that my friend who also ordered the jasmine tea said theirs was fine so unsure if it was inconsistent between batches? 1.5/5 - Rose puer was okay. I think if i had gotten this at 70% it might have been better to bring out the rosiness. Very good tea flavor but not as rosey as I was expecting. I was hoping for the Prince Tea rose lover flavor but I think thats artificially flavored as this had a more real/natural rosey flavor so it feels unfair to compare. Would get again to see if the 70% is closer to the rose lover. 3.5/5

Yelp
We went to Chayann, and I got their Iron Goddess Milk Tea, which tasted pretty standard, and the White Peach Oolong Milk Tea, where you could taste the peach. It was really good. The ordering process was simple and done right at the counter. The wait for our drinks didn't take long at all, and they even had free samples at the counter when we went. There's an upstairs seating area, which was a nice spot to sit and enjoy our tea.
google avatar

Anna M.

Yelp
A new milk tea shop that has a variety of tea bases. They had a buy one get one for their grand opening week. The shop is not too big but there is a sit down area on the 2nd floor where you can enjoy the beverage.
google avatar

Jay D.

Yelp
Service was great and fast. The rose tea (hot, 30% sweet) had an excellent and strong rose flavor. The Wuyi rock lemon tea (cold, 30% sweet) did not have the strongest tea flavor, which I need in my teas. I know this place is in the same line as Molly Tea and Tea Scholar. Honestly, I am not a fan of Molly's milk teas, I can barely taste the tea. I think their cold teas are superior. I hope the cold no-milk teas here at Chayann will get better.
