We stayed at the chayote for 3 days as a couple . We fell in love with pics and reviews of this lodge that we read while researching our trip. Just 50 min from SAN Jose airport, we decided to stay here when arriving on a late night flight, rather than in the city, and wow was it the right choice !!! We woke up to a spectacular property with 360 views and gorgeous landscaping. |Cabins are amazing - beautiful views from your own private deck, great hot water shower , the best bed we slept in for all of Costa Rica - comfortable with quality pillows and bedding. Many thoughtful touches were in the cabin - a yoga mat if you want to practice on the deck, coffee and a kettle , extra blankets for cool nights , a hair dryer - they thought of it all. |The grounds are to die for with flowers everywhere, toucans if you listen and look, hummingbirds , and Chayote, the adorable lodge dog. Perched on the hilltop there are views on all sides - from the restaurant where they served us a delicious meal each day , toucans your private cabin deck. |This property is so serene and safe and comfortable . It’s a great place to reset or a good jumping off point for some national parks and nature tours . We were able to tour the cloud forest and Toro waterfall. The property offers tours - local national parks and coffee plantations, etc. Jose our guide was wonderful and we had a great day out with him. Wendy and Robert from the lodge were so helpful with everything - booking tours and transfers and taxis and making us feel so welcome while we were there. |This will forever be a stop for us now as we come in and out of Costa Rica.

A unique hotel set high up in the cloud forest around 1 hour from San Jose. The comfortable rooms are bungalows based on the coffee plantation theme with everything you may need including amazing views of the cloud forest, beautiful sunsets and all the birds and creatures of the forest surrounding you. The food was good and inexpensive and the staff enthusiastic and friendly. Jose took us on the Naranjo town and botanical gardens tour with I cannot recommend highly enough. He was superb company and so knowledgeable. He really set the scene for us at the beginning of our holiday. A tour not to be missed. We were leaving at 530am and they gave us a take away breakfast and even sent someone to help us with our bags.

The hotel was a little less smart and luxurious than we had expected. But that’s our fault not theirs. ||It’s in a quiet rural location, cold at night and was very windy when we were there. It howled a bit one night. Unusually so. ||The room was basic but met all needs. No AC and it was more heat than cooling that was required. Someone called the toilets compost, a bit harsh, just a system that doesn’t want paper. ||Food was delicious and wholesome. I missed on the first night that the menu had a second side to it. Some of the dishes were in Spanish which confused me ! ||Staff were universally charming. ||We did a tour with a local guide, Jose. Others have mentioned him - truly excellent ||Give it a whirl, it’s off the beaten track and relaxing. A place to actually slow down and relax

This is such a lovely hotel. Everyone was so friendly. We stayed for 2 nights on route to Arenal. We arrived in the evening to a warm welcome from Wendy. The view from our room was stunning. Beautiful sun rise. We did the morning bird tour around the grounds with Jose which was such a great way to start our holiday. We saw so many birds including Keel Bill toucans which sound like frogs and beautiful humming birds feeding outside our room. We went on the Don Carlos coffee tour with Jose which was so interesting. We learnt a lot and very much enjoyed the hospitality. This is certainly a place worth visiting.

Great local costarrican owned boutique hotel inspired in the coffee culture of the costarrican highlands. Magnificent views of the central valley on one side and on the other side the central valley mountain range. Great food with the local taste. We loved the service and the gardens I will come back.

We stayed at Chayote Lodge for 4 days/3 nights during Easter Week 2025 and absolutely loved it! This authentic Costa Rican-owned boutique hotel offers warm, personal service (the owner served us daily), stunning views of the mountains and Central Valley, and spacious, beautifully decorated bungalows. The restaurant was excellent—fresh, delicious meals with both local and international options. We enjoyed hiking the lodge’s trails, relaxing in the gardens, and taking easy day trips to the Chayote Reserve and Zarcero. The climate was perfect at 5,000+ ft elevation. Highly recommend for both international visitors and Costa Rica residents. We’ll definitely be back!

This was our first stop in Costa Rica, staying 2 nights in an amazing lodge on stilts looking across San Jose. Great location, very quiet and lodges have great beds, bathrooms and high speed WiFi . There is small restaurant and bar on site providing home cooked food and friendly advice and service. Both the site and lodges were very clean and if you seek a dark sky this is the place. We took an organised tour to a nearby coffee plantation (family run) which was so informative - to understand from growing the bean, to drying, and roasting. You do actually get to drink the perfect coffee.|If you like small hotels or family run businesses this is the place for you and you get your own lodge for your stay.

Great views, nice relaxed atmosphere. Lovely gardens, great service. This was around 45 minute drive from San Juan airport and a little hard to find at midnight if you don't know the area. Would definitely recommend a stay here and would like to come back.
