Che Lagarto Hostel Salvador

I chose this place based on the location. I'll qualify what I'm about to say be adding that it's in a great location, the staff were very nice and helpful, and the overall atmosphere is great. The people staying there were fun, they had music and dancing at night, and the restrooms in the public areas were clean. ||That said, the room I stayed in was infested with cockroaches. I was in the six-bed women-only room. I saw cockroaches on the floor, the wall, and on the bed. The shared bathroom has no window or vent so it smells really bad. At night, when someone used the bathroom and didn't close the door after using it, the whole bedroom smelled so bad I had trouble going back to sleep. ||The wifi wasn't working on my last day there, which complicated my Uber ride to the bus station. Also, as a heads up, if you enter "Che Lagarto" into Uber, it gives the wrong address. ||One other thing: the lockers aren't compatible with small luggage locks (mine broke). Bring a big lock or a lock with a flexible cord.

Location is nice, at the sea front. The staff is great but it's the worst Che Lagarto I've been so far.|Common areas are cool, especially the terrace. But the room was really old, just one plug for six people. And the bathroom was horrible, without window and full of insects! The room is really hot during the day, fortunately the turn on the air conditioning during the night!

Very typical hostel with many common areas and large rooms. The rooms could definitely be cleaner, but not more than any other hostel. The wifi is spotty within the rooms, but great in the common areas. The staff is very helpful and super open to talking. The breakfast is very elementary, but you forget about it when take a sit on the patio overlooking the ocean. The location of the hostel is great, right on the boardwalk with supermarkets and important bus stops just corners away. Very good hostel!

We didn’t actually stay here. We stayed at a different hostel which we really didn’t enjoy. Our hostel man was really unhelpful with things to do so we came to this hostel to book on to some trips. ||I think it was the owner we spoke to but he was super helpful and was telling us loads of things we could do in Salvador. Even telling us we could do everything on our own and didn’t have to do it on a tour so he wasn’t just trying to get our money. ||We booked onto the tour to see the turtles which was really cool!||We felt really lost when we first got to Salvador but he was so helpful that we felt a lot more at ease in the area. We wish we had booked to stay here instead! ||The caipirinhas were really nice too, the bar area was cool.

Such a disappointment! The rooms are a sauna, even thought the temperatures outside were around 25C. And don't think the room with AC will be much better!||The 1st bed I arrived at had a terrible old looking mattress , the 2nd one was great and comfortable.||Rooms super crowded, with no room to walk at all! The shower was broken, so water was cold, and the door wouldn't close!!Only one one plug for a room with 6 guests!||The top bunk, is really close to the ceiling.||I just stayed cuz I arrived at night solo and it was just for one night.||The good things: the staff is super helpful and nice, really great for transportation and safety seems really good.

The location is incredible!! Right across from Barra beach, close to a big shopping mall with everything you need and down the road from the famous Barra Lighthouse (One of the best spots for sunset in the area).||This hostel has SOOOO MUCH potential!!! It used to be a Che Lagarto but has been taken over by new owners. There could be so many improvements that would make this one of the best hostels going!!||The bar upstairs is outsourced to a separate company and the drinks are far too expensive for a hostel!!

You have free wifi the whole time, free Internet cafe 24h, a bar on the deck a pool-table and great caipirinhas! The stuff is super friendly. Every Tuesday they do a trip to a part in Pelourinho the historical centre of Salvador. They bring and pick you up. |The beachside is direct in front of the hostel. |Breakfast is included and tasty, they have fresh juices and fruits every morning and a buffet. |You meet a lot of people and find new friends really fast. |Every room has an own bathroom also the dorms. |For dinner they organise a dinner of you like to join you can put your name on a list. All you can eat for 20R$/p. ||The atmosphere is pretty awesome!

Have the managers of this chain ever visited this place ? I hope/bet they haven't ... The staff is very nice and helpful, the location is not too bad but not in the safest area of the city and a bit far (30mn by bus) from Pelirinho ...Well past that it is definetely the worst Hostel I have ever been to. The facility need some serious refurbishment. The walls are moldy, the shower was broken, the matress was in bad shape and the bathrooms are a disaster. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone even for the low prices.
