51 Most Romantic Places in the U.S.A.

"The highest point in all of Alabama is inside Cheaha State Park, an exquisitely tranquil spot with plenty of hidden nooks and crannies to explore. For more adventurous couples, there are opportunities for fishing, rock climbing, hiking, swimming, and geocaching." - Travel + Leisure Editors

The Highest Places in America

"Rising above Talladega National Forest, Cheaha Mountain is the highest point in Alabama at 2,407 feet above sea level but the picturesque summit was almost wiped, out until the parks system saved its natural beauty. Cheaha Mountain, fittingly named after a Creek Indian word for “high place,” is one of the more picturesque state high points, but this was almost not the case. The forest surrounding the tall peak was extensively logged and vacated farmland until President Roosevelt created the national forest in 1936. The expansive regrowth now provides recreation and forest cover. The reborn forest can be seen in all its glory from Bunker Tower, the tall stone visitors center which now sits on the mountaintop. The tower was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934, originally housing park offices and a gift shop in each respective wing. The offices and shop have moved further down the mountain, but the tower is still open and can be climbed, with windows that provide stunning views of the regrown forest." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

The stone tower with 360 degree views at the top is beautiful and full of history. We visited during a Thunder Storm and caught views of Lightning crashing all around the land. Our 3rd highpoint. Keep Klimbing. 🦫

Beautiful state park that is the highest point in Alabama! You do have to pay $5 per person but well worth it! It offers a few hiking options, camping areas, lodging and plenty of great views! The observatory tower is great to see and to read about its history! I also recommend doing Pulpit rock which offers some of the best views of the horizon! I’ll definitely have to come back in the future!

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a pretty area. I never understood why they have to build a road to the summit or have a campground on top of a mountain then again nobody asked me😀

Mt Cheaha is like being in the smokey mountains in Alabama without the smokey part. Overall I like the place and here is why. First the views are spectacular. The sunset is amazing and It is totally breathtaking to watch as the sun drifts off. Next, the mountains are probably the best in Alabama and reminds me of the smokey mountains but without the smokey part. The gift shop had tons of cool stuff in their like a charm for my wood hiking stick and cool stickers, I do not have pictures of them but I will post it in the future. The trail had a good level of challenge to them and one of them had a steep hill the has hard, but a fun challenge. The only cons about this place is the high point tower is kinda anti climatic but has a fine view. The only other con is besides the trails and the tower, there is not much left to do here. Besides those cons, I totally recommend this for a day trip.

Really good experience, there are basically no restrictions on where you are or how close you are to the edge. I was able to sit on the edge with my legs hanging off. I love the area that Mount Cheaha is located at as well, it isn't the only tall mountain in the area, there are also some other mountains.

Fantastic side trip on my way through the state. Found a waterfall not far away and a few gravel roads to explore on my Adventure motorcycle.
