The 5 Best Hostels in Helsinki (Updated 2025)

"As the cheapest hostel in Helsinki (the only place I found with beds under €20), CheapSleep trades central location for social energy — it’s a 15-minute tram ride from the center but organizes events four nights a week (movie night, game night, and party nights on weekends), has a lively bar with €4 happy-hour beers and a common room with arcade games, plus a fully equipped kitchen and a grocery store downstairs. Dorms are classic old-school backpacker style with metal bunks and sparse décor, though each bunk has a power outlet, locker, and reading lamp (no privacy curtains). It’s a great choice if you’re on a tight budget and want to meet people and don’t mind the tram commute; there are also discounts if you have a Hostelpass membership." - Matthew Kepnes

If I have to go back to Finland I'll book with cheapsleep first, i'd completely disregard the hotels choice. The whole vibe is awesome, the personnel is super nice, at the reception they even asked me and my newly made friend if we wanted to be in the same room (we had separate rooms reservations cause we met only after booking), they did absolutely anything to make us feel at home. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough, i kind of miss it too, to be honest.

This was a decent hostel on the lower end of the price spectrum. The beds in the dorms did not have privacy curtains and if you wanted a towel you needed to rent one for €3. They did supply soap in the showers however. It is very close to public transit so you can easily get to anywhere in the city. Make sure you buy a day pass at the reception. Each room also includes a locker that is opened with your room pass.

Very surprised by this hotel, it was a massive dorm where my bed was. But because it was structured in a good way. You didn't bump into people or see too many people moving around. Normally big dorms are loud and crowded but not this hostel. Also the lockers are amazing, you don't need a padlock, your room key card locks and opens it. I was very impressed. Will book again if I'm Helsinki again.

Easy transportation to city center, with plenty of bars and a few grocery stores nearby. Staff is helpful and they have fans you can bring to the room. Large kitchens to cook in. Bathrooms aren't great, but they are reasonably clean and functional, with soap provided. They have social activities planned. It's a good value.

It's a hostel, so it can get a bit noisy at times, but overall, the atmosphere was friendly and the people were generally very nice. I stayed in the girls' dorm for one night, and it was a decent experience. The staff were helpful, and the location is well connected to both the city center and the airport via trams and buses. There's also a convenient store right in the building, which was a great plus. It's definitely budget-friendly and offers more value than you'd expect for the price.

Very nice place to stay in Helsinki. It's located not so far from the city centre with direct bus connection to the airport and right next to the tram stop. The service is really friendly and there's a lot of events going on in the hostel. I booked a 2 person room, which was a good deal in a price-quality relation

The hostel is located about 50 walking minutes from downtown Helsinki. Bus stations nearby. Lidl - 8 min away. On the both floors there is a spacious common area suitable for working, taking a break, etc. Wifi works fine. On the fourth floor there is equipped kitchen, 24/7 where you can cook. The staff cleans all the premises a couple of times a day. Bathrooms are spacious, showers work fine, hot water available. The bedroom was long enough with walls separating the beds which creates a sense of privacy. Beds are comfortable. All the staff is friendly and attentive. Price/valie ratio: very good Recommend it! Dislike: - some guests didn’t clean after themselves, and despite all the efforts of the staff, it was dirty at times. More strict measures should be adopted. - locationwise is far away from the centre.

Put into an 18 bed dorm with absolutely no ventilation. The infrastructure was there however no airflow. Temps were in mid 30’s and most uncomfortable. The foam / latex mattresses made sure you roasted.Kitchen and bathrooms were always disgustingly dirty mainly because what I believe were the longer term residents just not cleaning up after themselves Major design issue with the urinals as there was not fresh water flush installed so you had urine fermenting away all day. The stench made me want to gag. Ok it was cheap however this place is a health risk. Avoid at all costs
