The 6 Best Hostels in Hong Kong (Updated 2025)

"I stayed at an affordable, no-frills hostel on Hong Kong Island near Wan Chai Station that’s small but social with plenty of common space. Dorms are modest but beds are comfortable enough, there are no privacy curtains though each bed has an outlight, Wi‑Fi is solid, and there’s a large projector screen for movies in the common area; many good restaurants are nearby and it's family-owned." - Matthew Kepnes

I stayed here for 4 nights. The location was strategic near several bus stops, a tram stop, two MTR stations (Wan Chai and Exhibition Center). The room was just enough for two persons. Bathroom was clean. Hot water was functioning very well. However, no towels and any toiletries provided so don't forget to bring your own one. No room service provided and I never asked for one to be provided. The service was adequate and just enough for me during those stays.

Great common area. I've almost forgotten that hostel life involves bringing our own shampoo, soap, etc. A small towel is provided but everything we need can be purchased at a cheap enough price in addition to hotel price. Coffee tea water always provided. Good common area.

The hostel has a welcoming atmosphere with staff who make you feel at home. Dorms and private rooms are clean, with comfortable beds and secure lockers. The common areas are lively, perfect for meeting other travelers and sharing experiences. Free Wi-Fi works well, and the location is excellent—close to public transport, shops, and main attractions. Overall, it’s great value for money and ideal for budget travelers looking for both comfort and community

I had a great stay! After the hostel I had previously booked had been closed before I arrived, I was worried about finding another place to stay during the holiday. Thankfully, I found Check Inn HK, which I quickly booked, and when I arrived in the morning they were able to let me check in early. The front desk was super helpful, the communal area was very nice, and the rooms were clean. It’s in a great location, super close to the tram and the metro, a quick walk from the Star Ferry, and had buses that stop close by that can take you straight to the airport.

The location is so strategic! It's on the main street. I stayed on the female only dormitory room. The bedroom and bathroom are clean, AC also cool, staff is friendly. But maybe the flush is a little bit not functioning. Beside, because it's located on the main street, you still can hear the noises of the vehicles outside. There's also laundry service and also other services available there. Just asked to the staff if you need it. The price is affordable, good for solo travellers. Overall, I had a good stay in here

The place is great. Would definitely recommend again. Meant other solo travelers and everyone was so great. I was there during the typhoon and the staff was very accommodating. The room was great. The only down side was toilet didn’t fit the toilet and sewage smell at times in the bathroom. Normal in china tho.

Most of 5* reviews got by exchange for free drink. But it’s understandable, because otherwise this hotel will have solid 2*. In this 1* is for nice clean toiletBut in general it’s very poor like most of hostels in hongkong. But as I heard this one isn’t worst. But for me it was anyway terrible to have this 4 night experience for 30 USD / nightNightmare.

Stayed at Check Inn HK for a few nights solid spot if you’re after convenience over comfort. The location’s perfect, right in Wan Chai, easy access to MTR, food, and nightlife. Staff were genuinely kind and helpful, always down to give directions or help sort transport.

Yelp
Check Inn is my favorite hostel to stay at when I'm in HK. I've been to Yesinn at Fortress Hill and Causeway Bay, Cynthia's inn, and Dragon Hostel, so I've had my fair share of hostels. Check Inn has dorms on four different floors: 14th has the nicest deluxe rooms and common room, 13th has a bigger common room, female dorms, mixed, and a private three person bunk bed, 3rd floor is the most open as it is the reception and has the oldest kind of bathrooms, 2nd floor is the smallest but each room has 6 occupants instead of the usual 7-9. The family/friends that run the place are nice people who can also speak English. If you ever need any tourist help or getting to places you can ask them, they are very patient. One of them went over saying Tsim Sha Tsui with a lady way too many times. Anyways, the bathrooms are always cleaned, all the floors but the 3rd have rainfall shower heads (my favorite). Nights range from $178-$232HKD. Always book earlier to get a cheaper price and don't be afraid to call them up to book either. Just an FYI though if you have heights, don't like climbing up bunk beds (the ladder goes straight up and can be slippery in socks) let them know or ask for a bed on a lower level. Also, make sure you get an email from them regarding check in time and they will give you the key code into the apartment complex, if not then email them or get their number so you're prepared. I've been staying here wayy to many times the fact that I've been on every floor and the receptionists now me by name...

Yelp
Horrible management!!!! They stole my money on Hotels.com checkout page. I canceled my booking and, even though, they proceeded with payment. Ridiculous place. When I called, they were extremely rude and with the same excuse ¨We have to wait the boss¨. Lost a customer, I will keep throwing bad reviews at you in every possible expat forum in Facebook and I´ve never used Hotels.com ever since

Yelp
So this Hostel is small. Two dorm rooms and one private room. It is on the 3rd floor of a building. The shower is just a small hand held shower head over a basin - and you shower while standing next to the toilet. However, this place is awesome. Perfectly located in Wan Chai, next to awesome food. And a walking distance for anywhere on the Hong Kong side, it is worth the stay. Especially as it is cheap. The staff here are extremely friendly and helpful, and opened to a chat about what to do and where to eat. I would recommend this place if you are not a princess.

Yelp
I stayed for 2 nights this past week on the 3rd floor private room (a bunk bed with a third mattress on the floor). BE WARNED: THERE ARE BED BUGS. Despite initially checking the mattresses for bed bug signs, we were bitten through the night. My boyfriend and I counted over 30 bites each on our legs. Unfortunately, we only noticed (and started itching) the morning of our check-out, or we would have otherwise arranged for alternative accommodations. If bed bugs don't deter you: The hostel itself is nicely situated near a ding ding tram stop, of which we made good use. The room was small but sufficient. There's a window but you're not allowed to open it. It gets muggy but the air conditioning works well. The 2 small bathrooms on the 3rd floor are pretty clean. There is an additional large 2nd floor bathroom, and we were able to use it with minimal wait times. Hotel staff are nice, and you'll find other foreign travelers in the common areas (who invariably end up talking about having just come from--or heading to--Thailand).
