The 7 Best Hostels in Istanbul (Updated 2025)

"A short walk from the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, I like that Cheers offers regular walking tours in English and Spanish as an easy way to see the sights and meet people; the hostel also has a terrace and bar with great city views and the cozy Cheers Café for Turkish coffee or an evening beer. The bunks are basic (wooden with no privacy curtains) but comfortable, lockers are available, female-only dorms are offered, and note that dorm guests are limited to ages 15–40." - Matthew Kepnes

I cannot talk more highly of this hostel. The people are definitely number 1. So hospitable and welcoming. Breakfast was amazing, such an array of different food. Definitely something for everyone. Rooms and bathrooms were spacious and clean. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

I had a really good time in this hostel, I stayed here for three nights and if I come back to Istanbul I would choose it again. The bar upstairs is really nice, the music was loud but the bedroom was still quiet at night, so you can easily skip the party and go to sleep if you had a long day touring the city. It is conveniently placed in the historical center so it is easy to walk to all of the main points of interests and any walking tour in the area. Breakfast was good and complete with fruit, cheese, eggs, cake, bread and jam. Coffee and tea are also available. For any recommendations, suggestions or just to chat, staff member Seyfel is always available and ready to help. During my stay they organized karaoke night, belly dancing show and live music, so there is always something interesting going on. 5/5 great job guys!

This place has a 9.7 on Hostelworld and I have no idea how they are achieving that. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad hostel, but it's quite misrepresented in my opinion. The rooms were fine, AC is a bit weak. Bathrooms were not that great, but serviceable. The "Turkish breakfast" they advertise is only fruit, nothing else. It's a nice touch because it is free, but be aware. My issue with this hostel is that it just felt like they are trying to nickel and dime you for literally everything. If I could give any specific advice it would be NOT to do the pub crawl, I was already skeptical at the $23 price and I should've listened to my gut. Other hostel pub crawls I've done around the world will have an open bar or include lots of drinks and actually take you to cool local pubs. This one wasn't like that. They give you ONE free shot, and it's mostly juice. And I've never seen a hostel that is so stingy about that, they were very strict about that limit (except with a couple girls that the bartenders were hitting on, they got more shots) and quite rude to anyone who tried to get more, when they had plenty extra. Drinks at the bar are ridiculously expensive. $5 for a beer or a shot is the cheapest you're getting. Then the "pubs" are just generic stuffy clubs. I guess it can be good to meet people, because while this is advertised as a "social" or "party" hostel, it really isn't... there is no common space besides the bar, and even that is small. The staff are mostly friendly, but it can feel inauthentic when it's just trying to get more money out of you most of the time. If you book, they'll message you "kindly offering" to "save you from the chaos" of the Istanbul Metro from the airport... with their $55 taxi service. Or all their tours that are like $30-80 when you could just do all the same activities for a fraction of the price by yourself like I did. You are better off staying anywhere outside Sultanahmet because the whole area is tourist ripoffs.

Cheers Hostel is such an amazing place you will want to stay longer for the staff, for the people you meet and the sense of community they do such a wonderful job of building! I extended my time multiple times because of how much fun I had with the people and warm atmosphere that truly makes you feel welcome and apart of their family. The location is unbeatable—the Hagia Sophia overlooks the hostel itself for a magnificent lounge view that hosts THE BEST nightly events. The atmosphere is SO welcoming. You will leave with new friends, guaranteed! THE BIGGEST thanks to AMAZING FATIH, Murat & Hannia for going above & beyond to make the stay unforgettable with their kindness and hospitality & FUN TIMES! If you’re looking for a 10/10 place to stay, Cheers is the perfect choice.

Thank you Cheers Hostel for having us in Istanbul. It was short and sweet trip but it was worth while. My partner and I had a great time staying in our Private Room . Very clean and comfortable, the vibe of the hostel is fun and welcoming. The location is perfect walking distance to Hagia Sofia and the blue mosque. Enjoyed the belly dance show and karaoke sesh in the hostel’s rooftop. Love the breakfast and the staffs are amazing. Shoutout to Fatih for making our stay memorable.

The good part, beds are good and people are nice. Now the bad part. Toilets are very very dirty. After 2 days we asked to clean them. They did not do it out of own movement. The shower stops working after a few minutes. The prices for food, drinks etc are out of this world in this hostel. Just go in town you will pay half of the money.

The location is amazing, the bathrooms were exceptionally clean, the older gentleman who checked me in was very welcoming and friendly, and an early check-in was also possible. The dorm rooms were a good size and the locker space was generous. There is a beautiful view from the bar and the front porch was lovely. Breakfast was included too. I had real difficulty sleeping here. Music and shouting from the bar was very loud at 12:30 at night and my dorm room was right by it. When I asked Fatih at reception if the bar could be a bit quieter, the first thing he said was that we say online the bar can be loud and noisy. At time of writing, this isn’t included anywhere on Hostelworld or the Cheers hostel website. He said he would tell them now to turn it down and the bar will close shortly. The noise continued for another hour. It only stopped at 1.40am when the people went out. They came into the dorm room speaking full volume and noisily banging and opening their lockers, and awoke the dorm room again in the early hours of the morning when they came back. There is a sign in the room which says if you’d like to change beds to speak with reception. In the morning, I asked Fatih at reception if I could change dorm rooms to one lower down in the hostel building (further from the bar). As someone hadn’t checked in yet, he said he could swap us, but he made the point again to me that they say online it will be noisy. I asked him where it says this as I couldn’t see it (I thought I’d made a mistake). This didn’t go well. He said that them saying they run a BBQ dinner and a bar crawl once a week shows that this is a party hostel with a lot of noise all day and night. He said they can’t say that, otherwise people won’t stay. He swore. He said I was coming at him (I really wasn’t), and if I was coming at him he didn’t want to help me and would not swap the rooms. I kept calm and explained I wasn’t coming at him. I had only asked him where they say online about the noise as he had brought it up again. He kept talking over me, and I realised it was best to just keep quiet and hope he followed through with swapping the rooms. It was a difficult interaction. I felt uncomfortable and embarrassed. I did not explain this to him because after he threatened to not swap the rooms, I realised it’s best to just not say anything. He tried smoothing it over when he saw me later that morning by continuing to make his points. We were able to swap beds in the end, it was just unfortunate the main party guy was above me in the new room and sounded sick. The hostel kindly let me check out a day early. It was a shame about my experience but if you are looking for a party hostel, I strongly recommend it.
