We've had many outstanding burgers at Cheers of Ramona! They have a reputation for serving some of the best hamburgers in town. I can see why. The overall menu is extensive, while the burger choices are lengthy, varied and unique. I'll review a few of my favorite burger options below.
1. "Horseman" for $10.99 it's a 1/4 lb patty topped with American cheese, 1/4 lb of pastrami, grilled onions, pickles and hot mustard sauce. In my opinion, this combination would be better with Swiss cheese, so I requested they substitute Swiss for American. It comes out looking like a hot mess, but it tasted great! Definitely in the top tier of Ramona. The menu burgers are a la carte, so fries, rings, etc., are extra.
2. "Trail Burger" for $10.99. It's made with all the fixins plus bacon, jalapeños, BBQ sauce, and onion rings with cheese. There was seriously way too much going on with this one! Literally made me tired eating this monstrosity. Menu called out onion rings, but there were none. It was just grilled red onions. Beef patty was a good, thick half pound, cooked perfectly, hot & juicy. The appetizer order of "beer battered onion rings" here is $5.99. Their great burgers are a la carte, so you can add an order of fries, rings or frings to share with friends, family or loved ones. They came out perfectly hot and extra crispy, just how we like. Plus, not overly thick and fatty. Comes with a side of really good ranch dressing.
3. Cheers "BR" Burger for only $8.99. It's made with a Cheers burger patty, BBQ sauce, jalapeños, and cheddar cheese. Reading the menu description, something seemed lacking. That's right - bacon! I requested an add-on of bacon and that helped considerably.
These burgers are served open faced to keep the hot side hot and the cold side crisp & fresh. I put it all together for the photo so you can fully marvel in just how substantial these burgers are. Every burger creation I've ever ordered at Cheers has been so thoughtfully and carefully constructed. Some places I go to are just a haphazard mess. I will say though, once you actually have to pick up and eat this behemoth, expect to have to change clothes about half way through. That and take two showers when you get home.
The beef patty seemed to be a 1/2 pound; it was hot, thick, and juicy. A blanket of melted cheddar cheese enveloped a number of pickled jalapeños that lent a perfect spicy note. Bacon was abundant and a welcomed addition, although somewhat chewy/flabby, making it hard to get a good bite out of it. Produce was generous, crisp and fresh. Most impressive was the bun. It held all of this together without cracking under pressure.
This place is the quintessential dive bar, so if you've never been there, temper your expectations accordingly. And of course, not appropriate for kids.
