Chef King

Absolutely love their food. I get food from there as much as I can. I also like the service; they are very attentive and I appreciate that. I'm an introvert and so the busy atmosphere is not my favorite but the service and foo overcome that. When I'm there I'm definitely getting fried rice, crab ragoon, seasame chicken, garlic green beans, broccoli from the broccoli chicken and the black pepper chicken. YUM!!

Pricey but decent food. And you get watched by the workers the entire time 🤣 seating is also close quarters.

Excellent buffet for. Breaded sweet shrimp of some kind was awesome. The crab and shrimp with broccoli was also fantastic. Lots of options in American food and Chinese. Ice cream machine was a hit with the kids. Groups of 9 or more are charged 10% gratuity but they were kind enough to let us split our group in two so we didnt have to pay it. Very good service. Could be easily confused with another Chinese restaurant like two doors down. There is not really a name on the sign that i saw so if you are meeting someone be sure to clarify which Chinese restarant on Main St.

Food is delicious, especially the black pepper chicken. Service is fantastic and very attentive. I recommend eating in, if you are able, but the boxes for togo are self filled and paid by weight. Usually, I end up eating at the supper buffet, but I ate during lunch buffet and it was still delicious and had a bit of variety with the dishes being offered. I found the bacon potatoes to have a bit more bacon and flavor on them at this lunchtime meal.

If you are looking for all you can eat this place would fit. Typical buffet that seems to do OK. Been in town for years with a downtown location with limited street only parking. First time since I have been back in years. The selection looks the same and food flavors are still lacking. Recipes could use a little more flavor to get away from bland.

Arrived late in town, so the only place open downtown was Chef King. Was surprised that almost everything we tried was actually pretty good. The staff was very pleasant. If Chinese Buffet appeals to you, this would be a good choice.

Flavor of food is good but this type of restaurant is one that I take with great caution I don't eat any thing with meat here because the texture is so off and scary haha the meat is very rubbery and slimy but yeah ok Chinese food the vegetable lo mein, and vegetable egg rolls with the sweet-and-sour is the best thing there. Staff is friendly keeps up with refills and they have a good variety in my opinion.

I love this restaurant, the food that is suppose to be hot is Hot, the food that is suppose to be cold is Cold, good food, great service, good price, I have never not been happy after going to Chef King in Marshalltown.

amazing food i love everything about this place. the food is good. i don't know what things are called but at dinner next the rice. the chicken is amazing. i ADORE the cheese balls they are amazing. the waiters are friendly, they refill my drink when it's low, and when i get my 2nd place the first is gone! It's kinda average noisy in there but that's okay since i'm here for the food.

After reading the reviews that gave Chef King some kind words, I decided to give it a try. On a Monday night in Marshalltown, there's not much to choose from other than chain fast food, and I wasn't in the mood for hamburgers or pizza. When I walked in I learned it was a buffet, not particularly what I was looking for, but I since I was there I decided to roll the dice. Limited offering on the Hot Line, but also a Salad Line and some deserts. Started with the egg drop soup, it was average but nice and hot. Mein looked like it had been there all day, so I passed on one of my favorites. Lots of fried foods dripping in oil. The sesame chicken was the best hot dish, along with the black pepper chicken they were the only thing worth mentioning, or eating. I asked for Oolong tea and received a cup of "dark tea" not sure what it was but for sure it wasn't Oolong and too dark for green tea. The place was old and showing wear, probably could have used a good power washing of the entire interior. Staff was friend and relative attentive. Total tab was $10.90, so I sure can't complain about the prices. But I doubt this will receive a return trip when I'm in Marshalltown. But on a Monday night...

Chef King is wonderful! Being new to the area, I have been trying to find a place that has great hot and sour soup and I found it here. So delicious. Staff is friendly and the pricing is fair for the amount of food. I have only gotten takeout but they do have a buffet. So glad I found this place!

We went tonight because it was my son's14th birthday and he loves the food. I simply said it was his birthday and they came out with a beautiful desert and sang to him. The very best people!

Very fast, prompt service. Food was cycled fresh very frequently. Large variety! Best Chinese in town!

Would NOT recommend anymore. Before they had fruit going bad. Now they started serving bad crab and undercooked meat. In my last few visits, my family and I got sick. The only good times to eat is closer to closing time when the food is fresh for once. Any other time you'll be getting bad food from the buffet.

Always fresh hot food my drinks are always refilled promptly when they're empty nice employees I've always liked this place my son and I really enjoy it and I've never had a bad experience here.

Nothing fancy but the food isn't bad. I do like how there is a good variety on the salad/fruit/dessert bar. Which is helpful for my son who is picky. I do love how quick they are at keeping the food refreshed. Every time we go it is always busy. One time we didn't think we would even get seating. We got lucky as a group was leaving... They were quick to clean up so we could sit.

Dirt and grime on the floors and countertops near food. They wait to even start making more until the tray is already completely empty. Other than that when the food is there it's almost always hot and usually fresh unless you actually like waiting for food and eating around filth I would not recommend.

For the price, it's great Chinese. To the review below with one star: Yes, it's a buffet. The buffet tables should have given that away. Great service, great food, great consistency, great variety. My girlfriend and I eat here at least once a week. Sometimes three. Best Chinese buffet around.

Your usual American style Chinese food but a very large variety of it, and very good quality. Much better then the Chinese restaurants that used to be in Marshalltown. Very fair price for lunch too. I will return again sooner then later.

This Chinese buffet restaurant is OK. Their food is OK. It's not very fresh usually. Their Hot & Sour Soup is good. I prefer a Chinese restaurant where I can order from a menu. However, Chef King is not bad if you are in a hurry to eat. It doesn't seem like the cleanest place, but I guess it's adequate.

This place is just a chinese buffet. Nothing exciting or special. If you prefer to eat your chinese in bulk go here.

Really good food for a small town Chinese place. Buffet has plenty of choices. Restrooms are a little grungy but not horrible. Plenty of staff keeping plates cleared from the table and refilling drinks. Not expensive. 2 people was $17 total.

This is a Chinese buffet although the category states this as an Italian restaurant. When the restaurant first opened it was wonderful. Basically your standard Chinese buffet. The salad bar is sub par and very limited. The main buffet offers a great variety and really is very very good. However now that it has been open quite a few years, the restaurant, although seems clean, feels dirty. Like it could use a good hose down. The food remains good, is kept fresh, and the place is usually packed. Service is good, it is a buffet so they really do not need to do much. There is room for improvement but I will continue to eat there.

Go someplace else - this is as bad as it gets for food choices. Cheap food - poor quality - not very clean - poor service - food taste is terrible!
