Nice place right off the highway and easy to find. Service was good. The fig vinaigrette was amazing! Loved it! Never imagined that flavor but it was a big hit. I liked the Shrimp Morel I had, nice cream sauce and bacon with noodles and grilled shrimp. Sadly the shrimp were not fresh local shrimp. These were definitely frozen and another country supplied. Just had an off taste. You would think a big time local chef would know how big of a difference it makes to locally source as much as you can. And for the price paid I should expect that level of quality. Prices here are somewhat higher than most for similar dishes. Overall not bad here, just expected more.

This place is a one of a kind. We had the fish bites as an appetizer and they were so yummy. Very fresh and crunchy. My husband had the ribeye and fried noodles and I had the 1/2 & 1/2 etouffee. Both were wonderful. The steak was great with no sauce or additions, just their signature spice blend grilled onto it. And my crawfish & etouffee…wow. The coating on the crawfish was like none I’ve had before. Light and airy and so wonderfully crunchy. A delight for the mouth and taste buds! The etouffee was so tasty, just the right flavor and spice. Even their tea was perfect. Lastly, the owner and employees were absolutely attentive and entertaining. We had great conversations and attention. We absolutely love this restaurant and will come here anytime we’re nearby. I even bought their signature seasoning blend! Wish I could give them more than 5 stars. 😁

Google
Wonderful lunch. Everyone is super friendly. I got the crawfish etouffee. The owner brought me some fried crawfish and suggested I dip them in with the sauce and rice. That's how he likes it. Fantastic!

Joshua Narlesky

Google
Normally we come for fried frog legs, but our server suggested trying half sautéed and half fried. The sautéed ones come on top of rice and topped with a sauce. Excellent combo!

Google
Very good food. I had chosen this restaurant because we are passing through. I ate frog legs for the first time. Thank you for allowing us to be your guests. Peter + Andrea from Germany

Everything about this place was top-notch! We stopped in Rayne, Louisiana, because they are the Frogleg Capitol of the world. Oddly, no other restaurant in town served them. I am thankful for that now because that is how we ended up here! We were on vacation, so we needed help understanding what everything on the menu was. The server took time to help us pick out what she thought we would like, and she did an excellent job because we loved it all! When we were leaving, the owner, Robert, came over and talked with us too. He suggested we try the grilled froglegs too and a couple of other things. So we sat back down and tried a few things. They were absolutely delicious! Upon leaving, he took pictures with us and then gave us an autographed cookbook with some of his recipes! The hospitality we were shown was outstanding! Please treat yourself to this fabulous place!

We stayed at the hotel nearby and decided, based on the reviews, to go here for dinner. It was our first time. We were greeted well, seated well, and hungry. Our server was phenomenal - she was obviously happy to be there, knew the food inside and out, looked great and spot on in service - I mentioned this to the manager and he said she had only worked there for 6 weeks - we were shocked as she seemed very experienced at it! The food we ordered was so delicious - creamy, full of flavor, just the right amount, all homemade there, and wow just wow. it was a little pricey but it matched the quality and portion you received and were glad to pay and add a good tip for the server. Had a great chat with the co-owner who was super nice, told us about the history and checked on us twice. Love this gem in the middle of small town Louisiana and will return.

Google
EXCEPTIONAL in every aspect! I'm from Pennsylvania. I was on a fan boat tour and the guide had mentioned checking out Rayne. I had time, so I did. Having never had frog legs before, I was determined to have them in Louisiana. Arrived at Chef Roy's 15 minutes before they close on a Sunday. I went in and asked nicely if there was anyway they could fit me in. They more than happily agreed to seat me. I knew what I wanted, so I didn't waste time and ordered as I was sitting down. I was about halfway through when Chef Roy himself came out and we discussed the meal, exchanged small talk and I was on my way. This kind of personal treatment and going the extra mile is exactly why I cherish independently owned restaurants... This is where the magic happens. Thank you to everyone for making this an experience I'll never forget! The food was absolutely fantastic and I never once felt rushed.

Yelp
I stopped in here on a Thursday for a late lunch with my mom. We were seated right away. The waitress was super nice and so helpful. We both loved her. For my Main I ordered the Grilled Shrimp & Crab Cake Combo with Tartar Sauce, a Side Salad with Fig Vinaigrette Dressing, and a side of Sweet Potato Fries. My mom ordered the lunch portion of the Crab White Lake. -Grilled Shrimp & Crab Cake Combo: The shrimp were grilled perfectly and the Tartar Sauce was creamy with just enough bite to it. The Crab Cake was one of the best I've had in a very long time. It tasted fresh and I could see that it was full of the jumbo lump crab. There was some sauce over the Crab Cake that looked exactly the same as what was on my mom's dish so I'm sure it was the crab meat and crawfish boutte sauce. The sauce was super tasty and very good. I would ask for it on the side next time so I could taste the Crab Cake by itself first before adding in the sauce. -Side Salad: The salad was well done and enjoyable. If I remember correctly, I think the waitress said all of the dressings are made in house. For sure, the Fig Vinaigrette is and it was on the creamier and thicker than a traditional vinaigrette, but I liked that and it was super tasty. I really enjoyed it. -Sweet Potato Fries: They were thick and long and big, but tasty and I would definitely consider ordering them again. Would probably be good dipped on the Peppercorn Ranch Dressing. -Crab White Lake: My mom only ate half her meal and let me take her leftovers home. I ate it for supper the same day and it was so good even leftover. I can see why the waitress said it is one of their most popular dishes. I not only would go back, I actively want to make a point to. The food was of far higher quality than expected and the service was exceptional. I will be looking for an excuse to exit into Rayne the next time I'm headed that way just so I can stop in here to eat again.

Yelp
Food was great I had the shrimp salad, and gumbo. Service was incredible. The owner walks seeing and check to make sure you are ok.
google avatar

Stephen R.

Yelp
Well they had lunch options. They had grilled shrimp on the menu. They would not offer a smaller lunch option on grilled shrimp. Really? What happened to pleasing customers. Oh well, with that attitude we are not going back.

Brandi L.

Yelp
Good food. Good service. Food is a little pricy, but very good. Lunch menu has good options.

Yelp
If you are in Rayne LA you have to stop at Chef Roy's it is a classic. Every time I am in town I stop to get some Crawfish Ettoufee! It gives off fine dining, hometown, home-cooked, southern meals! Not to mention they also have a bar area! The service was quick and super friendly! The food was delicious!

Yelp
Just passing through 2024: stopped here on our way to MS for a few days. The reviews were great so why not? They open at 11am for three hours then open back up again for dinner. If you're there at 10:50 the parking lot is empty but I encourage you to stay put because at 11:05 the parking lot was full. We shared the Chef Roy platter which consisted of oysters, redfish, stuffed shrimp, red pepper shrimp and crab cake with etoufee over rice. We also had the eggplant fries. It was almost too much but we managed. The staff manages the crowd with class and humor. Great find. Don't miss if you're in Rayne LA

Tuyet L.

Yelp
I ordered the seafood platter at Chef Roy's Frog City Cafe, and it was a great choice. The platter was packed with a variety of seafood, all cooked just right--crispy on the outside and tender inside. The seasoning was on point, bringing out the fresh flavors without overpowering them. The service was friendly and quick, and the laid-back atmosphere made it a perfect spot to enjoy a good meal. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the mood for some quality seafood!

Yelp
My husband and I were driving around looking for diner and stumbled on this little place. It was quite a find. First off our waitress , Kelli. , was outstanding. My husband wanted a salad. She recommended all of the salad dressings, as they were made in house. She said the fig vinaigrette was one of her favorites. I had the blue cheese. Very nice. Creamy with chunks. The fig vinaigrette was very nice. Sweet and tart. I had the Crab White Lake. A crab cake over fried eggplant covered in a cheesy, creamy sauce. Then sprinkled with lump crab meat. The owner, Robert came by and spoke with us. Very nice guy. Great corn and crab bisque. Overall 5/5 experience.

Yelp
The service and food are outstanding. My family has been a loyal customer for too many years that I care to mention. We began with the original Chef Roy Lyons and followed him to three different locations until settling at the Rayne location that seems to be the last. The service and the food has always been extraordinary. In fact, I held my wedding reception and my Mom and Dad's 50th wedding reception here and couldn't have been more pleased. We had guests from many different areas and they were all very complimentary. Can't wait to go back again.

Yelp
First, let me say how kind the owner is. Or at least I think he's the owner. He walks round getting to know all of his customers and checks on everyone. The servers are all so kind and the restaurant is so family oriented. My favorite appetizer is the homemade chips with queso. It's so good it seems sinful. Lol My husband loves their seafood platter and I usually get the chicken and pasta dish. They also have really great steaks. I wish they had more dessert options, but this e restaurant is still a really amazing choice if your craving great Cajun food. Enjoy!

Yelp
Lunch today was excellent. The gumbo was the best I have ever eaten. It had the best flavor and was full of seafood. The frog legs were cooked perfect, very tender and flavorful. The service was excellent and the restaurant is pretty. Excellent place for a date.

Patrick P.

Yelp
We are residents of Rayne and long time regulars at Chef Roys. The fried shrimp are absolutely the BEST and is consistent every time. Competition is stiff in Acadiana for such food and you will for certain enjoy. This is their only location and the attention given to it will not be beat.
google avatar

Lori C.

Yelp
We had the crab white lake it was delicious. I highly recommend it. The place is packed and now I know why.

Toni S.

Yelp
I've been twice to Chef Roy and was very impressed both times. Nice atmosphere and clean. Service was excellent. Great place for a date!

Yelp
I kissed a frog and found my prince! As if that wasn't exciting enough, that adventure was followed by one almost as delicious! My prince and I found Chef Roy's Frog City Cafe ... the epitome of casual fine dining! Everything on the menu looked scrumptious, and neither of us was disappointed in our selections. First, we sampled the fried oysters topped with pepper jelly (sautéed onions in the middle). For his entree, Carl got the Crab White Lake (fried eggplant topped with a crab cake & covered with crab meat & crawfish boutte sauce). Mine is a tuna steak salad; the tuna was grilled perfectly - medium rare - and the dressing was a house-made fig balsamic vinegarette, which was originally created for their duck breast salad. Dessert is peach bread pudding with just a hint of nutmeg. YUMMY STUFF!!! Our server, Angela, was attentive and friendly and the owner, Robert, came by to chat with us twice. Turns out, Roy - the original owner - passed away from Alheizmers several years ago but I believe he would be proud of the legacy he left behind. If you find yourself in this part if Louisiana, treat yourself to this treasure. You can thank me later!

Madeleine R.

Yelp
This place was recommended to us by the owner of the b&b we stayed at. So glad we listened. The service was fine-nothing spectacular, but most of the food was delicious! The crab cakes and the corn and crab bisque are AH-MAZ-ING! Fried shrimp was excellent and the fish was cooked perfectly. We tried the eggplant fries which were okay but bland without the creole sauce that comes with it. We will definitely come back.
google avatar

Wendy R.

Yelp
Drove from east Lafayette 45 minutes to come and eat this crawfish!!!! I cant figure out the special taste.... So I guess I gotta come back again soon.

Yelp
We will be making this a tradition to stop when we are in this part of the state Every time!

Yelp
This was a very nice place to go eat out on a Saturday evening with family. The food was so freaking amazing. The crab White Lake was the absolutely best thing ever oh my goodness I was truly in my happy place enjoying this dish. The service was great the food was excellent and prompt, We hardly had to wait between the appetizers the salad and the meal itself My experience here was just phenomenal. I definitely recommend if you are traveling on I 10 near Rayne Louisiana and you are hungry definitely stop and give this place a try it is so worth it you will not be disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent stop on the way through Cajun Country. Did you know that Rayne (pronounced Rain) is the Frog Capital of the World? This small town refers to itself as Frog City and for a frog loving fool like myself, I'm glad I found it. Nice decor, great staff and frog legs! A rare find. I had the crab and corn soup and the frog leg etouffee (half and half) which was a good portion of frog leg etouffee and two fat pairs of fried frog legs. I could not have been happier. Then Robert, a super guy and the manager had me try the grilled version of frog legs and I was beyond HAPPY. For those who are not bonkers over frog legs, they do have many other unique items, and for the many people sitting around me, their dishes looked delish and all hands were working their plates quickly. Easy to get to, just off I10.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful food here. Stopped through while driving from Florida back to Houston. Had the crab lake meal and the fried shrimp and boy, was it delicious. Pam waited on us and made the experience even better. The eggplant was perfect and overall just don't have anything but great things to say about the place.
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
Very good food and service. Never have been disappointed. We have dined here for years.

Sandi R.

Yelp
Best restraint in Rayne in my opinion they have amazing staff and the food is a amazing way to show the culture of Louisiana

Gina W.

Yelp
Looking for a place to eat while driving from Texas to Mississippi. Wanted good food, clean place, and not too far off the highway. Well we got all three plus the friendliest waitress ever! We had gumbo, shrimp etouffee with extra shrimp and the bread pudding. We left very satisfied! The staff is so sweet and came to check on us. The place is fairly quiet which is great so you can talk and hear each other. Loved it!

Cara M.

Yelp
My family stopped here on the way home from Florida. The restaurant was clean. The food was really delicious. The service was quick, and the parking lot was big enough to park our travel trailer in. Would stop here again.

Yelp
Chef Roy's has remained consistently very, very GOOD for years. This is one of "those places" that, when you first try it, you'll be sorry for not going earlier. About 1 minute off the Rayne-LA 35 Exit, it is an oasis of real Cajun foods, especially local seafood preparations. This is the REAL THING, so much better than New Orleans imitations! Big paved parking lot wraps around. Fuel nearby. Easy on-&-off Interstate. And, the prices are reasonable, so that there is great price-value here. Don't miss this popular locals & Cajun travelers' dining spot ! Rick

Jo L.

Yelp
Food is delicious, service is excellent. Owner is a great guy that goes around visiting with customers. Parking is ample. Just a general all around great place to eat, family friendly environment. Been going there for years and it has never disappointed.

Yelp
JULY 14TH 2021 , we had a group party. We were blessed by having Alma to take our orders and serve us. The food was great and so was Alma. She was very courteous and friendly. Made the food that much better. Loretta D. 1131 CHURCH POINT HWY, RAYNE LA. CHEF ROYS.

Yelp
Food and service was great! Seafood gumbo was soo good has to be homemade. Had blackened catfish topped with crawfish etouffee. They let me substitute some grilled green for rice. Absolutely wonderful Warm welcoming Cajun atmosphere reminds me of my husband's family from Lafayette. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
From the great food, the location right off of I-10, to the courteous waitress, and the manager checking in only put it over the top. Pepper Jelly Oysters & Shrimp Fest with shrimp gumbo, boiled shrimp, grilled shrimp, fried shrimp, pepper jelly shrimp, stuffed shrimp, coconut shrimp, shrimp etouffee. Also a twice baked potato. All were outstanding. Definitely worth a stop if looking for CAJUN food.
google avatar

Mackenzie S.

Yelp
Was on a road trip passing through. Not the best, not the worst. Bread was the best I EVER had though. Our waitress was so nice and helpful. I was so happy the had a healthy vegetarian option.

Pam P.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way home from TN- service was awesome (Ashley), and food was out of this world!! We will definitely make this on of our must stops when we travel through- which is often as we have family in FL. Well done Chef Roy!!
google avatar

Aimee F.

Yelp
If I could leave zero stars I would. Me and my family came to eat there when it was not relatively busy. As we came in and asked for a table, they said it would be a moment, we had 9. It took them 45 minutes of them telling us it would be just a minute. They would not seat us, but if someone else came in it was, "ahh, yes, follow me to your table." In the end we ended up leaving, looking in the window we saw they had several open tables they could have pushed together, but they were to lazy.
google avatar

Catie B.

Yelp
Road tripping through Louisiana we stopped at this quaint little place. Food was great, server was very nice. I had the crawfish etouffee. Which was excellent. Great stop. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Driving cross country and looking forward to Cajun food in Louisiana, landed us at Chef Roy's. This is the real deal. Had the best crab cake with crawfish etouffee sauce. My husband had the seafood gumbo, and although it was a bit thinner than he liked, it was delicious. He also had the blackened catfish topped with crawfish etouffee. He said it was out of this world! The owner talked to all the diners, real Cajun friendly. This restaurant is worth the stop in Rayne, Louisiana.
google avatar

Tricia S.

Yelp
Great place to stop right off the interstate in Rayne, LA. Yummy Cajun food, full bar with martinis, delicious desserts, and very reasonable prices. My husband and I shared the Shrimp Festival, which allowed me to try several of their scrumptious shrimp items including coconut beer shrimp with a tangy marmalade to dip, pepper jelly shrimp, boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, stuffed shrimp, shrimp étouffée, and shrimp gumbo. They gave us baskets of warm bread rolls and a side salad came with the meal so really plenty for two at a decent price of $24.99. The service was also very friendly and fast, and the atmosphere was somewhat like a bed n breakfast. No music in the background, but as the restaurant filled up, the chatter filled the silence. I definitely recommend it to anyone who lives in this area or needs a pit stop off I10.
google avatar

Randy B.

Yelp
Really nice place, just off the freeway. Good place for local Cajun and seafood. Service is excellent and the prices are right. Definitely will come back if and when I passed by this way again.
google avatar

Yelp
Ok so I decided to try this place I've heard that it was great, I ordered a Ribeye steak and loaded bake potato now the steak was ok not great and my potato didn't come loaded and twice baked she came back with the fixings they were cold now this could have been a 2 star visit but I decided to try the cheesecake now this redeemed them 2 stars this cake was amazing.

Karen T.

Yelp
Waited over an hour for our food and when it finally arrived the order was wrong. Manager was very rude when I asked what was the hold up on our food. Was very disappointed.

Megan S.

Yelp
Always a good meal. Very accommodating when it comes to banquets etc. Sunday lunch is usually when we go. Good sit-down dining. Service is good, never had a problem
google avatar

Juliet K.

Yelp
We had the seafood platter and it was superb. Everything was perfectly seasoned and came in a timely manner. The waitress was never far away and even the boss man came around to make sure everything was to our liking. I'm from Acadiana so it's hard to impress me but I was definitely impressed with everything at Chef Roy's.

Corla L.

Yelp
Came here after reading reviews. The Seafood gumbo was not appetizing at all. Tasted wrong, the shrimp were light gray and crunchy. I also had the fried catfish bites, good but nothing to rave about. I will not return to this establishment.
google avatar

Paige D.

Yelp
Not my favorite. For a person who has a shellfish allergy, there isn't much to choose from

Morgan V.

Yelp
We were passing through for a baseball game and we were running late. Our waitress, Joana, accommodated our every request. Our food was spiced nicely for a Cajun. Our food came out in minutes and was just cooked. GREAT FOOD!!
google avatar

Dexter P.

Yelp
Delicious!!! The "have it Roberts style pasta" is something to travel for!!! And that's just a side !! So imagine what all else will taste like!!! And Roy is just in the name! Has nothing to do with the food!! 10 out of 10 with everything on the menu!!! Chef/ owner is a great guy and so is the partner..! Great place to take someone for a great, truly southern meal!!
google avatar

Paulette B.

Yelp
We won a gift card and decided to try this place for dinner last night. The food was delicious and the atmosphere very nice. Would eat here again.
